Dialga's, Palkia's and Giratina's non-dragon types are refrences to the states of mater solid=steel, liquid=water, gas=ghost. Those should be their types, dragon is just there to make them strong bossfights with resistances to starter types
So I think the best way to describe why Palkia represents water, is because the concept of space is ever flowing like water. Dialga's steel typing works because its concept of time is unbreakable.
I love these videos. Once you've finished this series, you should do a video about what type pokémon would be if there were only 4 types elemental, light, shadow, and space. (You could use a different list and number of categories, I just threw that out there for example) I feel like some would be super obvious, but some would be debatable
saw a long time ago the reason why Dialga and Palkia have such odd typings is that steel and diamonds are part of a clock, and that water flows like the passage of time, so I don't think it's that weird to have water type, along with pearls being found in water.
@@emperorcubone space and time are pretty connected, and i suppose space also is a vast ocean of nothingness, i think it works... enough.... if i had to give palkia any secondary type it would definitely be water imo.

I remember hearing somewhere that a possible reason why Palkia is Water is because in several cultures space is often referred ro as an Ocean or that all of the creation started from the ocean.
@@librathebeautifulwarmonk1283 To an extent, yeah. Ancient people didn't fully know what outer space was, so they either envisioned an endless ocean, or a finite land with a dome of water or something. Palkia having it makes more sense than one'd think.
Another fact is that Dialga and Palkia takes inspirations from Shinto Mythology. The important part to know is that there are 2 gods who created the world by dipping a jeweled spear into the water.
Palkia should stay water IMO 'cause I personally believe in "3 states of matter" theory for the 3 legends (dialga = solid = steel, palkia = liquid = water, giratina = gas = ghost)
I'm with you there honestly. I get that they wanted to have the Fighting/Steel combo, but then they just muddied the waters by giving it this whole unrelated Aura lore...
11:24 Palkia is Water-Type because it's Pearl-themed (and pearls come from the sea). The devs chose "diamonds & pearls" as a theme for the Gen 4 games becuase it's a logical progression from the previous gens (Gen 1 titles were colors, Gen 2 were colors that are also jewels, and Gen 3 were jewels, so Gen 4 are also jewels). But all of this is just my opinion/logic, I can't prove any of that.
Palkia is probably Water Type because in a lot of creation myths, when physical space is created, the first thing to exist is a sort of primordial sea from which the land emerged. Ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, some interpretations of Hindu myth, etc.
I think Garchomp should be ground They're literal land sharks and have the whole desert predator going for them, so its more fitting even if that means not having a dragon pseudo legendary
I haven't even watched past the first 20 seconds and I predict that EC will make the starter final evos only the secondary types. Ie Torterra pure ground, Infernape pure fighting, and Empoleon pure steel. Big flex and still a solid type triangle
Ready for another Gym Leader Analysis? Roark just as every Rock leader has Geodude and Onix and the one already monotype fossil. Gardenia has the already only Grass Turtwig and CHerubi/Cherrim plus Roserade who now is also just Grass though one Poison Poké would have been fine, too. For Maylene, Meditite and Lucario have changed into mono-Fighting which might make this battle easier even. Crasher Wake has only Floatzel from Sinnoh, so I had to re-check in the other videos for Gyarados and Quagsire who both become just Water, which is kinda a bit sad. With the muddy Safari Zone and the muddy route later, a Ground type would have actually fit him. In fact, Fantina is with Drifblim now the first leader of the region with a Pokemon that changed to another type than the prime. Byron's all three then again turn into just the prime type for being a metal snake, a metal disc and a metal face. For Candice, let's be honest, I don't really know why she would have Medichamp in an Ice Team anyway. except that it's catchable on the route next door. As Psycho it would be tricky if the Player uses Fighting against the Ice, but who wouldn't just use Fire? Sneasel became pure Ice in Jotho, though hers uses more Dark type attacks - maybe it would be more interesting to evolve it into Dark Weavile. And then there are Snover and Abomasnow, who I personally would have put as pure Grass, because while covered with snow on top, what they ARE is trees. And hers do both have more Grass Attacks. But then again, if we would do both these changes, her team wouldnt have one Ice type; at #7 however that would be a good variety challenge. And it would be something for an Ice leader to not simply take mons that ARE ice but some who despite not being Ice live well in these conditions. The Electric Volkner is already weird in the first place. In Platinum a pure mono-Electric team, he has in DP two that are randomly mono other types who also have more not-Electric attacks. Like, why was that?? While I would support type variety at such a position, it should at least make sense why he has these pokemon, and then some who have the prime type switching to another type is fine, not when they aren't associated in any way in the first place. So, let's just take the Platinum team which has Electric Pokes but variety in attacks with Luxray biting and Elevoltek punching. So, in this region a bit boring, if we eliminate the randomness at the end, practically all gym leaders simply end up with a team completely only of their prime type. Only Fantina's Drifblim and Candice's Medichamp would be another type, and that barely constitute mixed type teams. If we don't sanitize Volkner's team, he has a randomly mixed team but that one still feels already kinda weird.
Palkia being part Water type in the actual games does've an actual reason besides the three states of matter theory. Most likely it's so because it represents space. Why does this matter? Because ancient people had thought that space is represented by an endless ocean or a dome of water or something along those lines. So in a way, it does make sense, even if it's very esoteric.
@@phoenixblade8315 Indeed. But removing the idea of a dualtyped Pokémon for this hypothetical would obviously lead to weird decisions, since some designs are made with both typings in mind, not just one.
