Ned Rorem - Toccata

This is from my first faculty recital, as part of the Masterful Keys Virtuoso Piano Concert Series at University of La Verne. I lovingly called the recital "Alotta Toccatas" because I played a lot...of Toccatas.

Ned Rorem (1923-2022) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning LGBT+ American composer who studied at the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School. Although widely praised for his song settings, he has released output for many mediums, such as chamber music, symphonic works, and choral works. This Toccata is the third/last movement of his first Piano Sonata written in 1948. It features an abnormally subdivided 4/4 time signature and flamboyant virtuosity.
