Oh my god. As someone who has followed your channel since you had 1,000 subscribers. 6-7 years ago. It is amazing to see the progress the boys have made!!
I love these kids! Ian, all of them are making amazing progress. Ian is only my favorite because he reminds me so much of my son, Nicholas. I wish they could communicate with each other. Facebook, Discord, whatever. I think they’d have a lot to talk about.
Me too. Now I am in a environment that I am able to function in, it is amazing. I have staff help me with diaper changes, showers, make bed and clean and food and medicines and even going outside. they are not for autism but I am on a wait list for all of the autism home. The one staff member has trained in autism homes and he works with me 1 on 1 with AAC and make my bed and showers and dressing. The other day time staff does the same thing. And the evening staff does not do as much but I can function. No one put me down or expect me to do things and when smoke alarm went off I got help with coping. It's nice.
In my geometry class, there’s a kid named Logan who *seems* to be on a similar “level” of autism as Ian. And because of your channel, I found it so easy to relate to him, to talk to him, and to just hang out with him without it seeming like it’s performative. Thank you guys for everything you do.
Your interviews with the boys have been great and I loved hearing about their school experiences. They are very intelligent. They are fortunate that you have helped them understand themselves and that you’re an awesome dad and your wife is awesome too.
Thanks so much for this interview! It is wonderful to see Ian being well-adjusted in school and in life, and that he has many friends. Gives me hope since my son is on the spectrum as well.
I love that Ian seems 2 have a great social life at school. Having friends & socializing at school make such a difference in there school day! Good 4 you, Ian.. #tallguy!
Ian is a very smart boy who is verbal even though he has ASD he is very kind, smart, and brave to explain what it’s like to have Disabilities and differences and speaking of disabilities, I have 2 disabilities to deal with. I have Moderate ASD and Severe ADHD and I have anxiety to deal with as well but I’m not the only one with ASD my Older Bro Ryan was Born with Severe ASD too so I know what it’s like to have disabilities and Ian is not in this alone. Ian if you’re down and need encouraging, I’m on your side and I support you and I’m here for you if you need anything or if you need a friend I will be your friend I just appreciate you explaining what it’s like to experience your own life and disabilities at school. You are loved, and cared for by many people and by your family and friends. Your friend, Stephanie. 😘
Thank you Ian, for sharing your experiences! My son is around a level 2 (level 1 in some areas) and I'm around a level 1 (mostly b/c I had to kind of 'fend for myself' as a kid), and it's nice to see/hear someone else's experiences in school! You've come so far & done great, keep up the good work! ❤
As an autistic adult on his way to working with other autistic adults (likely with an empthasis on high schoolers sequeing their lives to college/University), tips I'd share with Ian: 1. If you like to learn, you will *love* the structure of college/uni *much* better than what you have to go through in high school, as you will have more autonomy over the scheduling of your classes, allowing you to have breaks in between rather than doing a straight 7-8 hours. 2. Over half the classes you will take will be related to your special interest(s). Rather than twiddling my thumbs and daydreaming while bored in school, I was allowed to work ahead in other classes. This will allow you to work at your own pace both when it comes to hyperfocusing on assignments given to you months in advance and also to take your time when whatever accommodations you may require. It cannot be emphasized how much more flexibility there is in college--and not the kind of flexibility where your routine will randomly change on you, but the type where you will largely be in charge of constructing your own routine. 3. Best. Place. To. Talk. To. Women. I wasn't the type of student who would eagerly raise his hand in an attempt to answer every question; but I was the type who would raise his hand and answer the questions that no one else seemed to be able to answer. This would cause girls (and maybe a few guys) to approach me to ask to study. Just remember: Be a gentleman and don't interpret this as an invitation to "hook up," but at the same time don't be a push over who is conned into doing others' work for them. The best way to learn how to talk with women is to--believe it or not--"pretend" like you're talking to another human being (mostly because you are). 4. I'd actually be interested in knowing what Ian's precise diagnostic level is; because although I have conversed with more than a handful of level 2's who excel at their given academic subjects (engineering, math, etc.), 2.5 (which although may not exists, still indicates that he's leaning towards a level 3 diagnosis) seems like a bit of a stretch; especially considering how well-spoken he is. But it is still entirely within the realm of possibility that he is indeed level 2, and that shouldn't stop him in the least from succeeding in a University setting, provided he has the right sort of people advocating for him.
I was usually more comfortable at home when I was younger as long as I was in my room (either reading or using my computer) or watching TV in the living room.
I haven't seen u guys in a good 5 years?! wild to see you all now :) ur channel and Ian specifically bc he's round my age were a big part in me going to get diagnosed :)
I'm a "mater hater" too! I enjoy checking in on your family and I'm glad to see that Ian is doing well and seems happy. My work (State U) has a special program for young people with autism and watching videos of your family has helped me better serve these students when they visit my library.

Your son is smart. I did not talk to age 5. I didn't talk my 2 word sentences to around 12 mom said. I didn't know what tooth paste was and shampoo was at age 8. I couldn't understand what I said other than what and I think I was saying what is this. This is on home video of Christmas time. I see why people didn't understand me and I had behavioral issues with this.

At the same time I met and talked to many parents, did hundreds assessments of their children with autistic spectrum.

I honestly don’t know yet. Maybe assisted living.
@@AutismFamilyChannel why does he sound like he is very high functioning but yet he needs assisted living, I'm guessing making decisions or budgeting is hard for him, or he can't navigate other situations.
