I was 100% in on a Konnected Joe when I first saw it and was all set to preorder one, then I saw my friends classic II and was concerned about the size. It was too small for the amount of smoking/grilling I do so I opted to go for the Big Joe III and have not been disappointed whatsoever. I'm super happy with it. Great video as always.
Yea I would buy one of these too but have to wait until they make it in the Big Joe which I would have to assume is coming at some point unless sales are terrible for this one.
I have been looking at all the videos and was set on a Konnected but was worried about the size compared to my 36” Camp Chef. Then I have been hearing about electrical problems with the Konnected and now am really worried plus the cost here in Kentucky is extremely high. No discounts where you can cook all year easily! I believe I’m going to keep looking and watching.
Great review! I've been wanting to get into smoking/grilling for a long time but have only used gas. The decision between charcoal and pellet has been rather difficult with significant pro's and cons to each. But this really does seem like a fantastic middle ground that covers all bases and makes it relatively easy to do so
I agree with everything. I would add I don't love how it's sort of sluggish. Changing the temp, using the app, there is a noticeable delay. Also, the constant warning about closing the bottom vent slows things do.
Very good review. I was just looking at these and have cooked on a bigger one a few times. I think I would be annoyed with all the warnings and silly messages, and I would prefer the bigger format for the same reason. I think you are right about the software it takes some time for manufacturers to get the bugs out.
Kamado Joe regular size is what 1999 -2000. This is much smaller for a few hundred less. Seems like anyone could just buy a temp controller and Cook on the regular size get much more for your money. What’s your thoughts
This is the same size as the classic 18”. Then there is a Big Joe 24”. You really don’t need a temp controller once you get used to one. The advantage is built in start up system, faster start times, remote control, and you can go from reverse sear to sear super quick. Personally I’d get a Big Joe. 18” is a bit small for my tastes. 🍻
Hi great video, and thanks for doing it. I note your remarks about size, but if you already have a Classic 2 and are happy with that size, is the KJ Konnected the exact same size and cooking space? Many thanks
Regarding the WiFi…why I love my Google WiFi mesh. It can detect whether 2.4 or 5 is allowed and will switch bands as needed. Honestly, 5 GHz isn’t needed for the BBQ stuff. Totally overkill but I get what you say about the network name being the same. I guess some routers aren’t smart enough to auto detect. I jumped from a regular router with a few custom configurations I had on it to Google WiFi mesh and it just simplified everything. Yes, not the most geeky privacy centric solution but I don’t have the time to mess with this stuff as much as I used to.
It’s not the network at all. I’m in IT and have a high end network in my house. The issue is the device. I have 45 devices on my network where some can do 2.4 only and no issues. The KJ doesn’t like a network like that. It specifically says in the manual it needs a dedicated 2.4 network. I thought I could bypass it like any other device and it had connection issues. 🍻
@@RumandCook I see. A dedicated network. Very odd. I always have a guest network running so when I run people untrustworthy computers on my network and/or some of my devices, I just run them there. That’s quite dumb behavior by the KJ. Even the tiny little add on module on my Pitts and Spitts couldn’t care less. It just runs 2.4 along with everything else on the same network.
Nice review. If they made a larger version of this, I might consider buying one. As it sits, I already have a 18" kamado and it's a bit small for my needs.
@@bacchanalbrew6799 I actually have a Billows because I thought I might need one a few years ago. Never opened it or took out of box. I like dialing in the heat on the kamado or kettle. Was thinking I might like this for the technology aspect of it but I will probably upgrade to a regular KJ III if I decide to upgrade.
@@RumandCook hmmm I thought I saw the Smoking Dad use the slow roller. I need to find out because I definitely need to use both. I can’t live with just two tier cooking
I cant think of anyone better to ask. I'm having an issue with the the D&C rack that came in my BJ3 and have been sending emails daily asking for help and trying to reach out on twitter. Their phone number no longer works, just tells you to fill out the form. Do you know any way to get in touch with someone since the only support line I have access to just isn't getting any response?
I have the Yoder and kamado joe. If they made a konnected big Joe I would probably sell both to get the big Joe I asked them and they said they have no plans right now
Sadly not surprising about the wireless chipset - manufactures still think they can ship IoT appliances with $5 controllers from 2015 and think we won't notice!

A Kamado is a good in between. I’d consider getting a normal one as well. Really don’t need the electronics. 🍻

Yeah. I think a lot of that will be improved. It’s improved over the beta a fair amount. 🍻
Good honest evaluation.
Thanks 🍻

Do you know how this works with a charcoal basket? Wasn’t sure if it interferes with the fan and lighting device
I not sure how well it would light with the AFS system. Probably not recommended. 🍻
I've seen a few videos on the Connected Joe and I still wouldn't give up my classic 2 for one of these. I like manually setting everything.
You can do both on the konnected joe
@@gerdsfargen6687 have you had that happen?

No problem. Yep same size as the classic 2 (18”). 🍻
Great job!
Thanks! 🍻
Great review for anyone considering purchasing one
Thank you sir. 🍻
Did you get a new cover for your Workhorse? If so, where from? I need one. Thanks!
Nope, same WH cover still. 🍻

Sorry I meant a dedicated name. Meaning 2.4 has an SSID and 5 has one. It doesn’t it like it when both have the same name. 🍻
you have a great editing style, Simple & clean. your new susubscriber ❤

I don’t know how u think of all these videos. Always such entertaining and informative stuff.
Always thinking and reading comments 😀🍻

Yeah tough to say. I assume it will depend on how well this version sells. Only time will tell. 🍻
Buy a big joe and add a BBQ Guru, Fireboard with a fan, or a Thermoworks Billows and you basically have this in a bigger version.

Quick correction, the classic Joe charcoal basket won't officially fit in the konnected joe. Great video!
Thanks for the info! 🍻
What accessories are there for the Classic 3 are there that won’t fit this grill
All accessories will work except the slow roller as far as I know. I tried the JoeTisserie and fits perfect. Same size as Classic 🍻

Yeah def opens the door to some more options. 🍻
Definitely need a 24”
Yep for sure 🍻
Can you leave it outside (4 seasons) with a cover?
Yep 🍻
Hey Jake! Just a heads up, your Meater link is broken down in the description. 🍻
Thanks. I fixed it now. 🍻

Looks like a amazing grill but the price to grill space ratio is just crazy, can see people being put off this due to that.
Yep, I’d put my money on a Big Joe for sure. 🍻
Very informative but its to small for me plus my wife would kill me if I got a 4th smoker lol 🇺🇸🥃🥓
Hahah ask for forgiveness later? 🍻
Konnected Big Joe 🤔
Maybe! 🍻
Id need a bigger one, cooking for 6 over here. #wheresthehashtags #kamadogrillswakeup
