I'm Italian and I've recently discovered Billy Bragg. He's very good, I fell in love madly at the first listen. Why the fuck I've never heard him before? In Italy, of all the beautiful english music , you only get the crap out of it !

Billy was right. Even though this concert was from 2013, it's almost as though it was written for 2021. The more things change, the more things stay the same.
He´s older now, but he´s the same! Billy Bragg changed my life! He has heart in the right place! I was on 2 concerts in the early 90s, one with the Red-Stars and one solo! Both were outstanding! Thanks for the recording of this concert in a bycicle store!
Billy Bragg was out din Australia not so many months ago, heard him on The Australian Broad Casing Network. Reminded me of the good Old man's body of work. I really like the stories/songs he writes and performs.

i'll finish off here by saying that billy bragg was-like many of us-an idealist in his youth, and no doubt also made errors in judgement. for what it's worth, bragg is now regarded as a bit of an elder statesman on british politics,and is regularly asked to speak on serious tv and radio programmes where his views-perhaps not quite the same as in his youth-are regarded as being valid and worthy.

I don't believe anyone would ever claim the DDR was in any way a Utopia but at least the people had the right to free healthcare a paid job with annual leave free education access to housing I believe the people of the United States will be waiting a long time before they achieve these basic human rights.

But as you yourself say, the Communists seized everything after communism fell in Poland under the banner of privitization, so that should tell you something. While Leninism is not the great leap foreward, neither is privitization. Both concentrate to much power in to few hands, allowing corrupt elites to steal everything. We need to give up black and white thinking and come up with more nuanced solutions.
I hope the irony of a multi-millionaire (net worth = $5 million) who owns and lives in (just some of the time) a massive cliff top house in Dorset singing 'I Ain't Got No Home' isn't lost on viewers.
