Thankyou for posting this video, it is only when you can see it as shown here that you can fully appreciate the devastation that the flooding has done to these communities. I have friends who live in Braithwaite and all they under played it when we spoke I did not appreciate just how bad it was...Thanks.
Good bridge there, if it handles this it should handle a 500 year flood! Nice to know that there are still some wise men left. As to Glenridding, I can remember the bridge being washed-out in the 1960s. Post Office Telephones hired an archer to fire an arrow towing a thread across the river. A string was tied to the thread then thicker and thicker ropes were got across. I think that the final one was a wire rope. In this way the telephone service was restored. Its not every day that the Telcos need an archer but they did then!
