It’s encouraging to see Hyatt resisting because he clearly has his strength. I would be so sad if he was listless and submissive. Thankfully the treatment has started and only time will tell. I’m crossing my fingers that he will make as full a recovery as possible. No one knows the history of how he contracted the toxo or how long he’s had it.
Shelly is so endearing in so many ways... one is that she's so unassuming in how gorgeous she is, hands down than others on RUclips who use their "looks" as a platform
I have seen, helped A TON of rescue's but I have to admit, I've NEVER seen one as #AMAZING as Tiny Kittens! The work you do literally makes me cry! Day in and out, I see ferals in the street. Desperately looking for a place to take a quick nap without getting killed. Desperately looking for something to eat before dying of hunger. Lately here, desperately looking for water before they die of dehydration. Seeing all you've helped in the past. Who you are helping in the present and who you will help in the future is just incredible!
Lola2248 You can do little things where you are. Maybe on a wall or in a bush or next to a bush, put a pot of water. The cats will find it, though they might only approach at night. If you can, put out some dry cat food, again on a wall or in the bushes where hopefully only cats can go. Leave it for a few hours or longer if you do not notice pests, etc. After awhile, the cats will learn where the food is. If you can, try to find a place to help you with TNR. But start with water. Little things.
Poor old guy. It's a rough life outside and on your own. With all the things out there that could have killed him, it really is fortunate he has survived to get to a safe place. To imagine how desperate it must have been for him to be blind out there...
I can share two stories of toxo cats... One was a feral kitten with impaired vision. She could make out bright light but that was about it. We treated and she made a complete recovery, including her sight! It took almost the full course of treatment before we saw definite improvement. We were able to socialize her, though it was a long process. I think the intense treatment needed was more of a barrier then her temporary blindness. The other is sadder story, I'm afraid. Another feral came in with diffuse, nonspecific symptoms and tested positive for toxo. Despite treatment it invaded his brain and caused incredible behavioral changes on a level I've never witnessed before. We sincerely thought there was a good chance he had rabies...he went from typical hissy feral to outright attacking, including trying to chew through carriers to continue the assault. It's hard to describe, but it was clear he was not controlling his own actions. I think some feral populations may have issues with lowered immune systems that make them more vulnerable to stronger infections. Perhaps due to inbreeding? My former feral Jonas has an impaired immune system and gets the strangest infections his specialists have ever seen. Right now he has a yeast outbreak on his nose and the back of his ears. He's FeLV and FIV negative...he's been tested multiple times because every new vet is sure he must have one or the other. But no, he's just very vulnerable to every spore, fungus, bacteria, and virus that so much as glances in his direction.
Awww, Hyatt is so cute and he is in the very best hands for a good outcome. Crossing fingers this diagnosis will help restore his vision (or at least help him consider turning in his feral card).
Oh I had have a toxoplasmosis in my own body... it was not funny... I got so much antibiotics and there was much issues in me... so I know what this poor boy was going thrue I hope Hyatt is feeling good and can see.... high paw for him 🐾
Hyatt congrats you have a diagnosis. You're only half way out the woods now buddy! Enjoy your tuna chaser and the noodle treatment you handsome cat you

Cheers for Hyatt and good wishes to TK volunteers who take such good care of cats and kittens. Hyatt, I hope you join Mason as Grandpa to the orphans. Teach those babies good manners and give them lots of licks and love!
Well that's about the best news we could hope for considering it could be a lot worse. Paws crossed and Power of the Paw to handsome Hyatt❣ Shelly thank you for being so amazing as usual and we appreciate everything you do💞
I agree! Imagine how much better he must feel too now that his ears are all clean and not infected or mites! I bet he's pretty happy these days, with friends he knows, and getting nice sound long naps in a safe place. Fingers crossed and prayers that he is a miracle cat and gets his sight back. Thank you Shelly and HQ for all you do!
I love your heart and hope. I wish the best for Hyatt and every homeless/human less kitty. As dad as the meds tasting bad, I wonder if you could add a bit of tuna oil to the med after it's measured into the syringe...even just a bit on the end may help. God bless you and your bottomless caring heart. Never lose that and never give up. Those most in need, need you and deserve at least the chance to know love and tenderness.
So happy to see this little one get a diagnosis, wishing you two all the luck in the world. I truly think he still can see shadows or has a very small part of his vision left, hopefully with treatment it will reverse or at least stop the progression of toxoplasmosis. Thank you so much for helping these kitties 🐱💕
Hi there, I live in South FL and one day in October, a pointed lynx just walked behind our apartment patio. He looked so malnourished; you could see every bone. He had a random twitch of his head that only went left. I called Animal Control and they have been so unhelpful - they don't pick up cats. I bought two traps and have been using my own cats carrier with a blanket to keep him a warm house as it has been in the 40s-50s. I have been feeding him everyday since we met him. He looks much better now; I wish I can add a photo. He is absolutely beautiful. I think he is blind though. His eyes are not cloudy; so vibrantly blue. He can't see where I throw his little treats; can only sniff them out. He isn't doing the twitch anymore, at least we can't tell. As time has gone by, I have noticed that when he comes closer to me, he is squinting his eyes or shuts them sometimes. I'm so scared of trapping him because I don't want whoever takes him to euthanize. And of course, I cannot keep him because our own cat is highly aggressive. We have had to board our sliding door and bedroom windows so that he doesn't see him.... :( I don't think that the outside baby can fed himself outdoors as he was on on deaths door before we stepped in..
Hyatt the (Legally Blind) feral cat? Been watching and he seems well able to navigate, and not have trouble avoiding obstacles! Perhaps he just needs glasses!
My cat Melton lived a good life for 7 years with active toxoplasmosis. No eyesight loss but fluid on the lungs eventually took his life when the medication stopped working. He was 12 when he passed x
Anyone else watching this in quarantine 2020 for coronavirus and feeling for that poor boy and all his tests (including coronavirus) and forced quarantine?
Did you say he was tested for corona virus? I'm new to Hyatt and his story so I've been wAtching some of his videos and could've sworn you said he was tested for it? Just curious no biggie. His story reminds me of sweet Harriet 💜 Seems like they both got the ending that was suited best...thanks for all your organization does. Very inspiring!
I wonder if Baycox medicine would work quicker? My kitten had coccidia when I got him. He was very sick and really poor balance. Even his intestines were bleeding. He took med for his intestine for a week and took Baycox for three days. The baycox wiped out the cocciadia parasite and he got better quickly and started to eat and gain weight. He is a very healthy kitten now. I read Toxoplasmisis is a form of coccidian. Baycox is a much faster treatment for toxoplasmosis although I know alot of vest aren't able to get it. I am located in Calgary and got it from one of the animal emergency hospitals.
I have tamed (pretty much) a very wary stray cat that lives in my back yard. How do I now find her a loving forever home? I love her but can’t keep her.
Does this mean that his blindness was likely caused by blurred vision caused by severe inflammation of the retina (ocular toxoplasmosis) and maybe it went long enough that he went mostly or totally blind or that the inflammation might go down and his sight could come back?
hissteen chaple dont like that blanket, thats for sure his eyes get big and he looks like he is ready to remove limbs with that swipe, also he sounds like a little spray bottle hissing, that cat means buisness, though I suspect more bark then bite and just wants to be left alone, but he could tear you up a big cat like that.
Actually, Hyatt was easier to medicate than our Daphne cat. She is utterly domesticated. But she has had colitis a couple of times, and has to get an AWFUL yellow liquid squirted into her mouth to treat it. Apparently, this stuff is the most foul, gag worthy liquid in existence. My roommie has to wrestle Daphne down, pry her jaws open, and cram the syringe into Daphne's mouth. Daphne fights so hard that a lot of the stuff never makes it in her mouth. The stuff that does get in there gets spat and foamed out. Daphne looks like she is in the midst of a rabies fit, all that foam and spittle drooling out of her mouth. She can't eat treats afterwards, because the taste in her mouth is so bad, she has to go away and drool it out. Compared to THAT, Hyatt is the picture of calm acceptance!
I have to get meds for my BenBen in transdermal form. I've medicated A LOT of cats and kittens in my time, but he's the first cat I've come across that has a serious syringe phobia!
Has anybody told Chapel, "hey dude, you're getting 3+ squares a day and nobody's eaten you yet! So chill dude! But alas, Chapel does not speak English and you can't reason with cats. Dogs are another story.
Also, I wanted to share a product with you that might help soothe your foster kitties. It’s basically a stuffed ‘mama cat’ that is heated and has a heartbeat. terry aw, well good to hear she already has them 💜 I’ve been hearing such good things about them lately I thought I’d share; one of my 3 kitties is very high stress with terrible separation anxiety, hoping it helps her feel a bit more relaxed when I’m not at home.
