real talk. why do women cover themselves with paint and change the color of their hair? do they not like how they look naturally? I have absolutely no problem with women looking like who they really are and natural. Is it a self esteem compensation thing?
Real talk indeed! I think a lot of that is a form of self expression. Humans have been finding ways to decorate ourselves to fit our own personal definitions of beauty since the beginning of time with everything from paint to tattoo. There are of course other reasons too and the reason why people choose to do what they do and its always going to be personal to their own situations. I can only hope that the reason we all choose to is a good reason and not because of self esteem issues.

Many times it is due to our own preferences, wanting to express our unique style or the artistic expression that resides deep within each soul. There is also the issue of social acceptance; often, we adopt hairstyles and ways of dressing to be fashionable or to belong to a social group with which we feel affinity. I mention this because I, too, fell into that: when I was younger, I was strongly connected to the "Doom Metal" movement; that is, dressing exclusively in black and having very long hair. That phase lasted for a few years, and as I grew older, I began to be true to myself, making my own choices and embracing my own tastes. But, as I mentioned, it's a personal choice, often tied to the process of maturation. At other times, it can be a result of social pressure. Sorry for jumping into the conversation; I couldn't help myself. I appreciate the depth in your responses.
