  • @MartinMenge
    @MartinMenge Год назад +20

    @4:45 for the international audience, in SA we refer to instant mixed drinks as coffee even when it is actually a chicory and coffee blend. For example Frisco and Recoffee are actually Chicory drinks (25% coffee). This might give the impression that these are a lot cheaper than other instant coffees.
    @13:14 There is no sales tax on brown bread. All stores above a certain size have to supply what we refer to as Government loaf, this is baked in-store and doesn't have labelling.
    @13:52 current domestic oil production generally only covers 1/5 of our needs

    • @MartinMenge
      @MartinMenge Год назад +1

      @@HughIrons We have a few crude wells, both off-shore and in the Karoo. But, yes, as of writing the bulk is through coal liquefaction and gas (natural) to crude oil conversions. With more and more domestic natural gas coming online converting gasoline cars to use LNG is becoming more popular. Also conversions on electricity generators too.

    Brown bread is not taxed In SA but white bread is same as with certain other items like oil and beans... When i worked as a cashier straight out of school we were taught it is zero rate items and they used to have orange price labels yellow price labels were for taxed groceries and white price labels were non edible non food items or GMD (general merchandise departments) blue price labels were put on fresh fish items.... we had to know what these color codes were as when we rung up the item we qould first have had to ring up the department code (color of the label) and then the price of the item as each had a different tax rate back in the day nowadays its done electronically by the POS as you just scan the item. Im 45 have worked in retail All my life and am Currently A sales Associate in tech for the opposition of the company in this video even though I worked for them also. The store in the video is a Hypermarket and ( I also work at a hypermarket but opposition company) Hypermarkets are usually very big as in this video and have a very huge variety .... The Hyper I work at has lost half of its floor space in the last 10 years but people still say we are HUUUUUUGE and walking from one end to the other is still a pretty decent distance if you want to get some STEPS on your fitness watch lol. On average a day at work I walk about almost 30KM that is about almost 19Miles

    Hellos fam, great video once again 👏 I'd like to say the reason regarding the exuberant price comparison of the electronics here in south africa has to deal with primarily Tax, import duties and custom duties. The main reason for the high price Is the fact that brands like Samsung, Apple etc do not operate from south africa, a cooperate would purchase these items and brand these store here as well as resell the items they purchased at a higher price. Therefore when new phones release for example the IPhone 15 later this year, it would be sold $100s of dollars more here.

      Honestly I would be so happy to get a 40" T.V For $100. Unfortunately a 65" T.V is way too expensive well that depends on the brand. For example with Samsung you can expect to pay anywhere between $1000 - $3000 for a 65" T.V.
