I wrestled in high school and I joined the team as a scrawny, tall and lanky 15 year old boy who had no self-confidence or belief in himself. I was a sad pathetic self-pitying kid who was still heart broken over his ex gf from eighth grade, and she had moved on and couldn't care less about me. I am so grateful for my friend convincing me that I should join the wrestling team, it was the best decision I have ever made. Wrestling forced me to grow stronger mentally, you can't have a weak mind and wrestle, the sport is so demanding that it will crush anyone the minute they accept defeat and give up. I remember going to practice every day after school in the beginning and getting my ass handed to me, but I didn't give up. Going through all that pain, those 5 mile team runs after practice is over, wrestling countless matches in practice, sprints immediately after the matches end. Wrestling turned me into a man, I experienced first hand what hard work was really like, I saw what it took to be successful. Nothing will ever compare to the feeling of the referee raising my arm in the arm after winning a match. I remember winning my first match perfectly, I re-live it when i'm studying or in need of motivation. Getting that feeling instantly flips a switch inside me. I love this sport and to all the wrestlers out there, never give up.

For all of you that think that wrestling is gay and a waste of time, let me tell you something from personal experience. Joining wrestling is the best decision I have ever taken. The rawest form of physical sport, no balls, no bats, no nets, no hoops. Wrestling will teach you so much, do it, it gets you into great shape and will make you a better person on and off the mat.

This sport has really changed me both mentally and physically. I've been in the best shape of my life since I've joined this wonderful sport. It has also made me a better person in school and my work ethic. Those ball players will never understand how hard this sport is and how scary it is. When you play your first basketball game it's not as nerve racking because you're playing as a team. However, in wrestling it's all you and only you and it will take everything you have. This sport will test your endurance and how much your body can take.

I have watched this video at least 200 times since this summer. i listen to it when I dont "feel" like weight training or working out. I listen to it while I work out. Wrestling is a sport like no other. It has changed me from a 96lb boy into an 132lb man. Wrestling will forever be a part of my life. I just want to let all my fellow wrestlers know that you are not alone. "Once who have wrestled, everything else in life is easy" ~ Dan Gable

That's what you do, my coach tells me all the time "how bad do you want it?" "You cheat yourself you cheat the team." "If one does it we all do it." It's not just a sport it's life once you join you just don't quit you keep going even when it's your 3 match l, that's when you push even harder because the other person will get even more tired.

Almost finished with my first season as a junior in high school (Late, I know). And boy can I say that this is the hardest sport I played. Football conditioning may be worse, but wrestling practices and matches are a million times harder. Trying to lift and move someone your weight, who's fighting you back, while going as hard and fast as you can is one of the hardest things ever. But My coaches are awesome and chill, I'm on an awesome team with good friends, and I'm learning valuable skills for fighting.
Also, I love getting the most out of my weight - cutting down as much body fat as possible and gaining as much muscle as possible while still staying in my class. I love stepping on the scale to see that I've dropped a few more pounds, or that my arms look more toned.
My only regret about wrestling is that I didn't do it sooner

got my MMA debut this weekend and coming back to this is that 15 year old kid waiting in anticipation of the bus on the way to the state qualifier, still with the same goal, same angst, same grind, pushing your body to the limit and knowing that it’s all about the choices you make, revives a part in me every time. love this video, long live gable, long live the old timers that gave us grit

I find myself returning to this video, it’s saved my life many times. Just an update, I actually won my debut, TKO in 3rd round and decided to pursue a college degree. And when I’m down, or depressed, smoking cigarettes, in bed, I remember, “it’s all about choices, the smallest choices we make will ultimately shape a large part of our future” and I get up and fight back. We’re wrestlers DAMNIT!!!

That goes for every wrestler out there, if you have the heart and drive there's no one that can come between you and greatness.

Watching this video truly made me realize how much I miss wrestling. Not just the sport itself but the family and memories you build on the mat. I’ve done wrestling for 3 years then freshman year came along and COVID hit. And man, let me tell you how disappointed I am that I missed a year wrestling. Sure I am in the weight room lifting and getting in the best shape possible before next season comes around but nothing compares to duals, tournaments, those painful last sprints, and the incredible bond you build on the mat with coaches and friends. Next year I will come back as strong as I can and make up for it!💪

Love wrestling, started in middle school & wrestled in high school, went through injuries & cutting weight, hard practices where you wanna quit but like the video says that's the beauty of it, it makes you stronger because like my coaches said after you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Still do volunteer coaching on the said because I just can't get away from it. Greatest sport ever.

As I age along this journey called life I can guarantee you, the youth, one thing. That one thing is that every chapter of your life has its levels of adversity. It doesn't get any easier, but we the few understand that the faster we learn how to befriend pain the easier life gets. For you that are about to begin to partake in this beauty of a sport just know that you will take this experience with you until the day you die. Once a wrestler, always a wrestler. 🙏

Finding those who inspire are few and far between, but that what makes them so special when you find those people, and the hardships they have gone through and the characters that has built are what make them shine above the rest, like the brightest stars compared to the others, they stand out and catch the eye.

The changing of the seasons brings with it a sense of anticipation
    We can feel it
    Sense it
    Smell it in the air
As a way of exchange for bright gold and red are focused through the 6 months ahead
Flights are wiped clean as The goals and expectations of winning a national title remain the same
Each day will deliver a new form of adversity
But we have the ability to meet it head on and overcome challenges
Some people believe in faith, that our future is predetermined
    I believe in choices
We can accept medicaory? or decide to reach beyond our capabilities
Drop the weight or push through another rep
    Sleep in or rise early
Slow down or sprint another 100 yards
Stop wrestling or embrace the grind
The smallest choices we make now will ultimately shape a large part of the future
its all about choices and that’s the beauty of it
    the season has arrived
need some correction on this, some parts were difficult to hear, thanks

I started wrestling since last year am I originally was 260 in the 285 weight class and since I wasn't tall or strong I got my ass handed to me, now it is my second year and I've been doing nothing but barely eating and working out and I'm 10 pounds from my goal of 220s. So your not alone in trying to drop weight and if you got Amy tips you would care to pass down to someone who never dieted before it would be truly appreciated as I get closer to my goal trying to shed of those last few pounds in such a short time is proving to be pretty difficult, thank you

Hingle Mc Cringleberry keep a similar diet just reduce the volume you are eating and don't eat any carbs after dinner. Also a few days before your weigh in cut down on salt as it helps retain water and don't drink the day of of course

My story is I wrestled in 8th grade. It was the first sport I joined. I was happy to be a wrestler.I learned so much.I loss many times. I didn't cry. I just went to wrestling practice. I didn't get better, but I didn't quit. They were stronger than me. I was 145 pounds. 5feet 8 inches. My best match was against this white boy. He was good. He looked like a short Brock Lesnar. That was the best day of my life. I had fun wrestling. Now I just watch pro - wrestling. College wrestling is on cable in Florida. I miss the wrestling team. Head and arm, single leg take down, and the double leg is all I know.

    • @Garrett1240
      @Garrett1240 7 лет назад

I wish there was a relevant wrestling scene in Denmark too! Here in the U.S. it's between the 3rd-5th most popular sport in the Elementary through college ranks (ages 5-22), with the exception of the South where it's only noteworthy in very few pockets. For the other two-thirds of the country however, it's one of the most popular sports. I'd love to see this sport grow throughout the world especially Northern and Western Europe. It'd be great for wrestling to take hold in countries that are highly modern and wealthy like Denmark for example. Much of the issues surrounding the expansion of the sport is that it's located primarily in countries with less than ideal infrastructure and lower standards of living than the United States has for example. For growth to occur there must be reliable infrastructure and affluence surrounding it. That is not the case for wrestling outside the States where it's popularity is centered on the poor areas of the Caucuses Region that overlays Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, and Turkey, as well as Eastern Europe like Bulgaria, Belarus, Hungary, Estonia, and Ukraine where the standard of living is comparatively low. These countries accompanied by the U.S. make up almost 90% of wrestlers worldwide.
Sorry for the long post but I'm on tons of coffee. My point is, wealthy countries like yours would be ideal for wrestling to grow in popularity.

In high school I thought football was a mans sport, but sophomore year I decided to join wrestling I promise anyone here who doubts wrestling will soon find out the best athletes are wrestlers even for big men like myself. If it wasn't for wrestling I wouldn't be as a good as a football player, as good of an athlete not as great as a man I've become from it. It definitely wasn't as easy as football (mostly because my school was 20th in the state of California) but football is a breeze and I encourage everyone to consider it.
