I've been using this gauges since my childhood and never used it in even one of the shown ways... Eccept for the usual mesurings... Big thanks for this video!
Not a digital scale in sight or battery to go flat, so great to see. I recently bought a new one, less than half the price of digital. I will be recommending them to class and might buy another one.
Thanks for these ideas. Could you explain how the bottom scale is used please? At 0:55, you show a reading of 0.2mm to be added to the 7mm from the top scale, but it looks like you've just picked a random digit from the bottom. TIA.
What is for sure is that the main scale is 7MM. Then look at the vernier scale carefully, the mark at 2 that lines up with a mark on the main scale you can see. So the vernier scale is 0.2MM. Finally add the readings together...
Vernier Calipers are NOT intended to be used as Drafting tools ! Thats what they make SCALES for and Machinist squares ! But I get it ... : ) I am a Retired Toolmaker of 45 Years . Been there Done it All ! Cheers !!!
If you need to be that precise in your measurements you need to put the pencil in your shirt pocket and get out the marking knife. Pencil marks would be way too wide. In my opinion. I personally use mine all the time in wood working, they come in handy for a lot of things.
@ I just use a simple razor knife. No sense wasting money on an expensive marking knife. I can’t cut any closer than that anyway. Did like your video though. My very old calipers are hard to move and read, so I just ordered myself a new set off Amazon this morning.👍
Its nice to see that you didn't use it as a scriber like you see in a lot of video's. It makes me shudder every time i see it used like that. They are obviously not engineers and never taught the correct usage. Heathens.
Man, you're shortchanging yourself as a caliper owner, my friend! Btw, it's great for opening paint cans & bottles, heck even stirring paint in a pinch. Calipers are basically the first multi-tool 😊
@tinkeringdaily Not secrets. If purchased new they come with all this information. At least , Mitutoyo use to. I guess they still do. Happy measuring & marking out.
@tinkeringdaily P.S. if you ever decide to go digital , only purchase quality such as Mitutoyo, not Chinese rubbish. The battery life between the two is amazing. About 3 months with Chinese cheap units up to about 18 months to 2 years with quality units & that is with constant daily use. Hopefully this may be of some help/interest .
I wanted a set of vernier dial calipers, but couldn't find any at a realistic price. So I bought a cheap Chinese crap digital set and they've actually been fine.
Funny I'm using the callipers for 3d CAT software. Your video made me aware that I only used them to measure and never have set a measurement using them 🫣
Always something to learn, thank you.
Our pleasure!
I enjoyed watching it.
I'm glad
The circle centre trick is really useful, thanks.
This was a very helpful video. Thank you!

Glad it was helpful!
Something new can be found in all experiences thank you for the presentation
Maravilhoso! Wonderfull!
center finder is a nice one, did not know it yet, thanks
You are welcome.
Super video nice to see more uses of the caliper. Replaces a lot of "need" to have tools for marking etc.
Glad it was helpful!
I use calipers everyday, but never realized it was such a Swiss Army Knife!
Nice, I never thought half of these used, great video
Excelent !! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Excellent video presentation and great how-to information. Thank you.

Are batteries hard to get? My digital caliper comes with 3 batteries which should last 2-3 years.
Aprendi muita coisa com este vídeo. PARABÉNS!
great , thank you

They can also work as a hammer, scribe or adjustable wrench. Once anyway.
Ha ha. Anything can act as a hammer
I used to use vernier caliper n micrometer, thanks for sharing
Thank you. I've used one for years, doing only one thing 😂🤣. This was cool.
Glad to hear you found them useful!

You’re right. I do need a marking knife. Thanks for you advice. 🙏

@@MacDa-yy8xnRob Cosman sells his marking knife for $55! Ouch
... Well, I'll just have to do it myself. I found some turning blades, jigsaw blades and broken threading taps.
comme à l'école,il y a longtemps...😊
What brand is that?
Deli dl92150
Yes! The brand is not important, just use the vernier caliper you have in your hand.
...
you can use it as an adjustable spanner too
...
and an ice pick
And a scribe, pry bar, paint can & bottle opener and general whacker of things 😉😂
@@branchandfoundry560 also back-scratcher 😂
@ It's endless. Calipers, Swiss army knife...same difference.

Glad you said that. I wouldn't do that, it would ruin the accuracy of the caliper.
YES! I couldn't agree more! As soon as I see some one use a vernier to scribe, I turn the video off.

👍⭐️⭐️⭐️👏
Scribe metal !
These are not 'tricks' that's what vernier calipers are made for. I've been using these features for over 50 years, since my apprenticeship days!
This is my first vernier calipers and has been used for 3 years. Unfortunately, I just found out these secrets. 😭

@creamwobbly
They measure fine. But chew through the batteries!
I still waiting to see the tricks I’m a machinist for 32 years use my caliper everyday it does the same thing 😮
I'm sorry, you have mastered them! Well, it's not a secret anymore.
@@tinkeringdaily 😉🤣
looks like 9.4mm and 9.91mm
Standard uses plus some odd ones. Some of these 'uses' would be better with squares. No "tricks" here.
would you be interested in a brand collaboration?
Maybe someday, but not now. I'm still a beginner. 😀
@@tinkeringdaily ok~hope oneday🥰
Where are the tricks?
You watched the video and he got revenue, that's the trick. 😉
I would use it to measure my Johnson but a micrometer is the better choice.
