followed you step by step on my 2003 mazdaspeed protege today! thanks man, never done a timing belt and water pump, you made it so easy! very good info, very good camera angles, good job man!
Thanks for the video ! I love my rusty old protege5 but holy god, every time I have a problem and I fix it there's a new problem.. I just patched my rad (it was spewing coolant) and it is 100% fine now, then I had a leaky valve cover gasket, replaced that, it seemed fine. Now I have a crack in my timing belt cover. I Was just going to JB weld it up and clean up any contaminants but oil is coming out of the cover. Yikes. Have to reseat or replace the cover gasket and then patch the timing belt cover I think. The car isn't worth any money, so I'm just going to fix anything I can as cheaply as possible. I just want it to survive one or two more winters here lol. Rear fenders are almost entirely rusted off. Previous owners never cared for it :(
Good Job first of all, excellent mechanic's and precision on the timing belt. Have the same year and model. Made look eazy bro. Thanks for the video i picked up a few pointers.
Great video. I have this same car. Bought it used a few years ago and don’t know if the belt has ever been changed. I’ve changed timing belts before, but not on one of these. Your video made sense of it all. Especially the timing marks to check. Thanks!
Dude, did you say "All right, you two friends" at the very beginning? :D But seriously, thank you for the video. Also, to everyone: Use. Hitachi. Coils. (If you have to replace the coils on these things.) They are absolutely the same parts that came on the car and they will last longer. P0300 codes? Get Hitachi coils if the coils are at fault.
Your marks aren't lining up after you spun it because for every 2 turns on bottom is 1 turn on top if you went all way around again they should be lined up
Same as, your viewers, making some funds flippin cars.. on the side, cause I like it...makes me think of CHESS, you get into the puzzle... , appreciate the time and effort you did too make this great video... , keeping your U tube, cause I have an idea.. you can start a F.B. deal, with other videos' of such, and own the rights? Regards, KR
So i had the heads resurfaced, i timed all the marks before removing everything.......i just got them back....i put the cams back in and there lined up the i and the e, do i still need to rotate the camshafts a full turn? If i do there just going to end up lined up again?
My question exactly. Seems like an important thing to show, but this guy seems to figure it out as he goes along. So if the engine didn't drop when he took out the motor mount, he's on to the next step.
Thanks for the video, really helpful with the different camera angles. Just wondering how you tighten the crankshaft Bolt without the crankshaft turning? I'm planning on using a torque wrench not an impact wrench.
If you have the pulley chain holder then use the chain. If you don't then take the starter out by using screw driver to lock again with the flex plate or flywheel teeth. Hope I answer your question.
I'm not sure how close the valves open to the Piston some hydraulic valve like this Mazda is safe when timing belt broke. What you can do is buy a belt and put it in to find out. Thanks for watching.
Melvin Carrera have you done timing belt in any car before? I believe you miss setting your Mazda timing wrong that why you can't start it. Even though you think you didn't move the camshaft it probably did moved but you probably didn't see or know it moved. Recheck your timing mark again to see it align correctly. In this video I did show how to find your timing mark. Good luck my friend please subscribe. Thanks
All Tsab I aligned each of the marks as you show it in the video but I can not make the car turn on, when I was removing the crank pulley I broke one of the teeth that aligns with the crank sensor, you think that could be affecting?
If the car is top dead center the first intake lobe on the cam would face the cabin of the car and the exhaust intake lobe would be pointing the the front of the car. You have it 180 out

these cars have a way of sticking in your soul. Every time I think about selling mine, I end up on rockauto instead lol

Great video. didnt see no.1 brought to tdc. before setting belt
Next time just out the crank at Top dead center before removing for the marks to be perfectly lined up.its firing on number 3 where you left it .

Crankshaft pulley looks like it’s been eating the belt cover. Question.. does the harmonic balance pulley just come off with hands no tool needed?
great video! my future project car
I seen front cam move when you removed the belt did you just turn back till mark was in right position again
Great video!!! Thank you
You welcome

Hey did u notice the belt not around AC?
Great video! Awesome work 🤘 Subbed. 👍
Thanks
You kept skipping the important parts
Thanks for the video. I have two questions. 1) do we need to lock the Cams before removing the belt 2) how did you tension the belt? Thanks
Don't need to lock the cams but careful make sure it doesn't jump. The belt has the spring tensioner .
@@alltsab Thank you 🙏
Спасибо, очень помог.
Great video! Many Thanks!!!

How did you get the crankshaft pulley off?? 12:08
As you see in this video. Spray d40 to it and used both hands back and forth until come out.
Did you put the timing belt on with the tensioner pulley installed or after you put the belt on the crankshaft
As you see in the video

No if line up already you don't need to
Thanks for the video.
Great video man, i respect the DIY like you. Keep it up man, where are you located.
Thanks
Great, very helpful
I get to have fun doing this in the snow lol.
Donski? , did all go well?
Are you holding the motor up with something as you take off the mount?
My question exactly. Seems like an important thing to show, but this guy seems to figure it out as he goes along. So if the engine didn't drop when he took out the motor mount, he's on to the next step.
would i follow the same steps for a 2003 mazda protege not protege5
Should be almost the same

Hey Mate, how did you tension the belt? At marks or bit further away?
Нормальные у тебя инструменты
What kind of ratchet were you using? Great video, getting ready to do this myself and was going to get the same ratchet.
That ratchet is from harbor freight. They are very useful
Yes definitely
Which way does the crank bolt loosen?
It just like loosing regular bolt. Counter clock
@@alltsab thnx buddy.... excellent video to.👍
Thank you
Blown head gasket didn't you see all the antifreeze blowing out of the radiator?
Not really because the water pump is leaking badly.
My timing belt broke while driving (same car) do you know if valvez may be damaged? Non interference or interference motor?
I'm not sure how close the valves open to the Piston some hydraulic valve like this Mazda is safe when timing belt broke. What you can do is buy a belt and put it in to find out. Thanks for watching.
It's non interference.
Hi good day. How can I tell if the camshafts are in the order they should be?
The video is showing
I have a 2002 Mazda protege5 I did timing belt replacement and after that my car won't start

yes, this is most likely your problem. if the crank sensor is not reading correctly it cannot tell which spark plug to fire
@@melvincarrera9691 you fucked your engine guy
Where did you get that super-long double end ratchet?
Ez-red online
What do u do if u get the timing wrong
@@shelleybreaux6939 pray.
Marks never lined up because you never had the engine in TDC
