    I just got back from 2 1/2 weeks in Italy and Greece. I never leave the house without a fold up fan in my purse. The plane was delayed on the runway for one hour and my friend and I were able to stay semi-comfortable using the fans we bought for .25 each. It takes up so little space, but when you need it, it is there for you.

      I have a small collapsible round fan. It fits in a square fabric case of about 2 and a half inches. I just get it out and it opens up and hey presto, instant air flow. It came in handy while at an outside do, no breeze and so hot. I just got my circular fan out. Friends wanted one too.

    Hi. I would disagree about the luggage tag. It takes up no space and provides contact info should your bag get lost. I just put my name, number, and e-mail. It's come in handy, not for me, but for a travel companion when someone took her bag at the Dubai airport. I would also put that same info inside the bag.

      I agree that a name tag with name, phone and email is very useful. But don’t spend money on a cute one. I’ve had cute ones stolen. Instead, I get the cheap type that no one would want to steal.
      To identify my bag, especially the one I check in, I tie cheap coloured ribbons on the handle. They can be a single bright colour or two colours tied together. The colour should be easily spotted. I once saw a woman lifting off my bag with its bright yellow ribbons from the luggage carousel, and she was on the other side of the carousel. Lucky those ribbons were so eye-catching - no mistaking that it was MY bag.

    • @tiltawhorled
      @tiltawhorled 2 года назад +15

      Airlines put their own stickers on your suitcases now so they can identify it without you putting the name tag on it. But the name tag is definitely good if someone accidentally picks up the bag thinking it’s their own. I agree with Laurie that you should put the name tag on your bag as well as tie a scarf or some other unique colored tape on it so it looks different than everyone else’s.

      I always travel with toiletries in the large Ziploc bags, and within that anything that is liquid is in another snack ziploc bag (tooth care kit in medium bag for convenience to just pull out as one, same with face care). This double-bagging has saved me before. With the changes in pressure that your liquids go through on a flight, it's easy for them to burst their containers.

    I put individual jewelry pieces in small clear craft bags, then put them all in pouch together. The bags come in varying sizes too. Great for jewelry, meds, any small items you need to corral and take up little space. Also, with school starting back soon, there will be a lot of pencil cases available, hard and soft side, that can work well for pouches. So agree about the travel pillow. We use them on long haul flights but otherwise they stay at home. And always, always, carry a long charging cord so when you get stuck in the airport, you can bridge the gap between the electrical outlets and where you may be sitting. Not all airports have seating with electrical plugs every couple of seats, especially regional airports.

    When I'm at my destination, I don't keep cash in my wallet, but instead take out almost all of the Kleenex in a purse pack (the kind that fold - On the Go packs) and put my paper money in that. It may not help if the entire purse gets stolen, but if you re being pickpocketed they probably won't bother with it.

      Great idea, much less drastic than a lady I heard of, that uses a small diaper (clean one) she slices a pocket into the middle of it and puts in a very thin canvas bag containing her money and other valuables. She then rolls it like one would a dirty diaper and puts it in her bag, uses some brown eye shadow on the side fringe to aide the illusion of a dirty diaper. Not only does she not get pick pocketed, apparently once, she left the purse for a moment and saw a would be thief fixing to grab the purse, recoil at the sight and leave it alone. As effective as that probably is, I like your idea lot more.

      @@tracycameron2580 no question that flying causes pollution. I am a travel advisor and focus on sustainable travel.
      To reduce the carbon emissions when flying you should pack less which uses less fuel (Did you know that if everyone packed just one less pair of shoes, the fuel savings would be equivalent to removing 10,500 cars off the road for an entire year?) and fly on newer planes that are more fuel efficient.
      The other benefit of travelling is that natural environments, wildlife species and plant life are preserved. Governments charge environmental taxes and maintain natural environments to attract tourists who spend money in their country. If people didn't travel to see the Amazon rainforest for example, it would be cut down and used for cattle ranches. We know that natural environments are beneficial to the planet. Travel also helps local economies and preserves cultural heritage - these are both aspects of sustainable travel. There are so many benefits of travel and we can make it sustainable at the same time. Let's face it, everything we do has an impact on the environment. Buying cheap clothing made on another continent (that pays workers low wages, and needs to be shipped to the consumer) are ways that we damage the planet. Sometimes a little bad outweighs a lot of good. It is a balancing act.
