@@bthsr7113 Photons have energy and momentum, and a laser produces so many photons per second at that energy for a given power output. This is my first Gundam anime, and I love how much in universe technical detail there is. Stuff like respecting zero G, maneuvering thrusters firing off to balance craft during shots, no magic, just technology explained and respected, and you can still take out more info from this!
There's a lot of interesting details to make out in this one clip. 1) The Aerial pushback. You can tell that Sophie's Gundam is a heavier model than Aerial but for Aerial to easily push it out, the Rebuild thrusters are strong or Aerial is just that good. 2) Aerial Rebuild's low power settings are greater than two other Lfrith Gundams. She knows what's coming and knows how outgunned they are once the big gun came into play. 5) The cannon's settings are still on low power, probably because Prospera and Co. had no time to augment Aerial's settings quickly enough, but still powerful enough to melt Mobile Suit armor (as seen with that MS getting its legs melted off). This alone means that a direct hit is fatal, despite the settings being non-fatal.
4. She is a witch, wich is basically this universes version of Newtype. 4. It melted the legs without even hitting while on school setting. This thing is a Space colony buster for shure.
The problem with saying that being a 'witch' is the new Newtype is that we don't know for sure why they are called witches other than the narrative that says this. Why is Suletta called the Witch of Mercury? Why do the Earthian Gundam pilots call themselves witches of Earth? Why isn't the fake Elan called a 'witch'/wizard then?
@@tenchichan9170 That is eluded to do with the GUND Format. Elan is likely a Witch as well, a failed one, but a Witch nonetheless. All those dubbed as Witches thus far have been people who can survive a permet score of four and higher. Unlike Elan, the Earthan Witches can handle their suits at the higher setting, albeit still in pain. Elan couldn't handle his Gundam even in permet score three, higher was a death sentence (his life span was already heavily reduced from piloting his Gundam). Elan 4 even mentions the whole reason he wants Aerial is because it doesn't attempt to break him to use like every Gundam he has been in thus far, and he hated Suletta for being a Witch just like him, but one who didn't have to suffer like him. The Higher ups even called him a failed test product not just because he failed to secure the Aerial but because he failed to be a successful Gundam pilot/Witch in general. Prospera talking with Elan's handler even mentions she knows they are still working on "that project" the artificial creation of Witches to pilot Gundams (alluded to). This makes me suspect Prospera worked on the same project on her own and perfected it with Suletta as Suletta cannot be the same child as what was in the prologue as the ages so not match. Only way Suletta is Eri is if she was thrown into cryo. Then there is the issue with Aerial. It's named Aerial, not Lfrith. The Gundam from episode 0 is called a Lfrith, a prototype. Aerial. A-Eri-al
I love the OST when she shoots the beam rifle. The chanting in the background as its charging up then everything silences all at once. Reminds me of The Dark Knight Rises when Bruce is climbing from the pit and the other prisoners are chanting "rise," so badass.
It also leans heavily into Suletta being a Witch of Mercury. The changing intensifies as she charges as if changing a spell. It cuts off just when she is fully charged as if it is to signify the spell is complete and then boom, fired.
im pretty sure it was inspired by ace combat 7s soundtrack, i dont have any proof but if u listen to "daredevil" and "archange" from the games ost its hard to believe it didnt take inspiration there. at first i honestly thought it was stolen from the game
"Why that much firepower if it's not meant to be a weapon?" Hands down (pun intended), the terrorist attack and Suletta firing that laser are going to be what sparks a war between Earth and Space.
0:20 i love this spot where the music quiets down and you really get to hear the sounds these things make going toe to toe. Sick as hell, one of the best parts of this show imo
I love all the homages this scene had. Aerial Rebuild giving off GP01 Fb vibes. The thrusters turning like 00’s first launch. Pushing the other MS like Unicorn. The rifle firing pose.
Man, imagine if we get a GB03 style thing. Arguably not enough of those in the model kit scene, and reviving the older, more compact grade for mobile armors might be nice.
yeah after watching this series I went from thinking Gundam was overrated and meh to underrated as hell. I’ve been binging it since. any suggestions for a newcomer like me?
the thruster and such output is probably at max. the weapon output is school setting/ low frequency. could be a account of smae energy yield but its not as focused/vibrating. like having a blowtorch unfocused, and then you focuse it and its much more intense and efficient.
I just realized something at 1:15. Every time we hear the children choir in the music- the Aerial is performing an absolutely destructive weaponized attack.
Sunrise is probably the last bastion of 2D-animated mecha, though they also mix 3D near-seamlessly as well. Fun fact, you can notice a bit of an animation hiccup when the gund-bits attach to the gun, where they forgot to mask out the left-side bits and can be seen phasing through the gun before disappearing.
There is a theory that says all the Gunbits are individual people. Knowing that detail makes this scene 1:15 where Suletta calls upon them and then more and more voices start to chant as she powers up an attack make more sense in a really creepy way
If that's true then the power and presentation that the power is in the right hands... takes on a new meaning when you think Ariel is the modern day Frankenstein's monster. Suletta is Igor. And Suletta's mother is the mad scientist.
@@sightseek3rbasically the duel setting is green beams which leave the cockpit intact due to it being made of much more study material as we don’t want the kiddos killing each other in duels

@@GodzillaFan-ko2xd That's for other continuities, and we don't know what's happened in the past yet (drone wars?), but given the Earth/Space tensions happening here... It seems like the GUND format was originally designed to help people adapt to space. And the people in space looked for any excuse to suppress that.
I think this series has some of the best mechanical design of the entire franchise in years. Even the ways they make sure to note the differences between various beam weaponry but the fact the beams dissipate and lose temperature the further they go out.
Looking back, the difference in vibes between Aerial's theme and Aerial Rebuild's theme was wild Aerial: A hero stands up to do the right thing even though it's hard Aerial Rebuild: The final boss casually decimates a large city to test their abilities
The last time an action and the soundtrack pumped me up this much was hearing White Reflection playing while Herro retrieves the Wing Zero in endless waltz. The chanting before the cannon fires gives me chills everytime
Man, when are we gonna get treated to the full official OST? "Astacassia" and "The Witch From Mercury" are absolutely brilliant tracks, but I *need* the music from this clip.
I'm here to liberate your over year long question. We have an official OST that contains every track that is available on Spotify, and the specific track for this part is called "Aerial Rebuild."
This show is fantastic, stellar dare I say. Writing acting themes characters animation direction pacing; All just really solid and really well executed.
I love how the firing of that thing has an actually ominous atmosphere. Makes you wonder if Suletta won't end up being the villain or villain protagonist of this series.
I think a lot of that is gonna depend on what the heck Delling's pet project, Quiet Zero, turns out to be. But there's also probably 20-40+ years' worth of highly relevant backstory involving the late Dr. Cardo's generation as well as Elnora's generation that is, so far, being withheld.
Everyone talking about the big gun moment but for me the best part of this clip is 0:20, the music switching to a more tense and ominous tone as the fight starts.
this ost is godly and i’ll never forget it, especially how i felt hearing it for the first time + suletta and aerial going into real combat for the first time and how emotional i was. those opening vocals r so good i replay that part over n over, and also the part when norea joins the fight that’s my fav part of the track, the DRUMS oh my goodness in unison w suletta and the gund bits gracefully moving in perfect synth as the music crests; i could go on and on if i don’t stop myself😭
I know the focus is mainly on Suletta breaking out a real Witch longarm, but the beam minigun and variable spread heavy beam shotgun are also quite impressive. Bits are still a late to endgame meta though, and Aerial's predecessor was built with bits.
It's a real tragedy that we never see the Gund-bit cannon fire at full power. It has a green beam here which means the regulation restriction was still on. When Prospera uses the Gund-bit cannon to destroy all of the Gund-volvas, it charges up a blue beam but the instant it fires the camera is outside the bunker so we never see the full power beam.
We should've known something was up when we saw Suletta treating this life or death battle with the same weight she gave to duels. Guel was terrified out of his mind in the same situation, but Suletta acts like this is business as usual.
I wouldn’t exactly call it the same situation, Guel was in an outdated grunt MS against a superior machine and using physical ammunition which he’s not used to. He was being beaten down until he started fighting back, Suletta is in a far more advantageous position. I think Suletta was also a lot more serious here than she’s been in say, the Grassley duel when she was smiling as she took down Shaddiq’s teammates.
They talk about mining for permit, and permit scores, makes me wonder if it's a mineral like Metatron from Zone of the Enders ... then it would make more sense if the Ariel and gund bits have the absorbed memories and or souls of others inside them.
I don't think they touched on it in the show yet, except for some technical info that didn't really explain. From the official site, permet is a mineral that they mine for, that conducts information between pieces of it, and they use it mixed with other materials and in electronics or mix with propellant for control purposes. It's also part of the biotech used for GUND-format.
When I watched this entire episode it was amazing and jaw dropping I love they gave gundam Aerial an Easter egg shots from gundam 00 twin drive sides to the back to fly out 0:10 and gundam Unicorn when the Unicorn grabbed out a mobile suit and push it out from the space docks to outside to fight 0:14 and their ost music for this intense, epic, and amazing
Animation is top notch in this scene (BUDGET), and I loved the details. Like once Norea jumped in, the some of the GUND-Bits stayed with the Aerial as a shield, and others were flying around taking shots from different angles (one from right in front of the camera).
The thing that steals my heart in this clip is Norea suddenly shacking her head when Aerial forms her beam cannon and she realizes they are in over their heads. That bit of animation is breathtaking imo.

"Why that much firepower if it's not meant to be a weapon?"
Hands down (pun intended), the terrorist attack and Suletta firing that laser are going to be what sparks a war between Earth and Space.

So glad this series is making Gundam more popular with the western audience
Witch still have long way to go to be in UC and CE level.

And yet Aerial is still set to "School Mode." When she actually shifts gears for a real fight... it's gonna be a bloodbath.
You're assuming there will be any blood left when she's done shooting at blue or higher frequencies.
I'm anticipating Unicorn level power with Barbatos level consequences.
the thruster and such output is probably at max. the weapon output is school setting/ low frequency. could be a account of smae energy yield but its not as focused/vibrating. like having a blowtorch unfocused, and then you focuse it and its much more intense and efficient.
It's not technically a bloodbath if the blood is also incinerated.
@@Klaaism No more tomato juice.
love the little shiwer sophie does as the beam cannon is assembling itself
they saw the situation get out of hand real fast
That was Norea
Gotta love the slightly mournful Lfrith/Eri motif playing in the background, instead of Suletta/Aerial's triumphant war cry
I just realized something at 1:15. Every time we hear the children choir in the music- the Aerial is performing an absolutely destructive weaponized attack.
Sunrise is probably the last bastion of 2D-animated mecha, though they also mix 3D near-seamlessly as well. Fun fact, you can notice a bit of an animation hiccup when the gund-bits attach to the gun, where they forgot to mask out the left-side bits and can be seen phasing through the gun before disappearing.
good catch
just gotta appreciate that frame at 0:12, it is black and white but shows the immense power from that flight pack.
The chanting that plays when Suletta extends her f*ck off laser cannon is really unsettling, and I love it!
And if you connect that back to all the people that died in the prologue when she was younger hits even more
its like the bits are her coven

Interesting detail, Suletta and the Aerial are still using the "low-power" training/dueling beams, instead of the blue "high-power" mode.

That moment at 1:23 where she realises "I done fkd up..."

"See how powerless you really are!"
"Roger that."
That chanting in the song just feels like an ominous countdown to Aerial firing
When your too lazy to break their ankles so you just decide that they should have never had them in the first place 1:20
At that moment Sulleta was already fighting with zero concern of killing anyone, that cannon is 100% lethal force.
It's still on _low_ power. I don't think we want to see high power.
@@MrOmegatronic I mean, I do and I don't. I want to see the power, but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't be aimed with righteous purpose towards bloodless carnage.
@@bthsr7113 I'm going to take a wild guess that it's designed as a colony buster. I mean, other MS weapons are shown to take out ships, so it's overkill for an anti-ship role. That is straight-up a weapon to wipe out space colonies.
@@MrMyu I agree cause with the amount of times a space colony or other large object has been dropped onto the earth I wouldn’t put it past anyone
Suletta gives the best high fives
And even better pats on the backs.
We are so messed up,
Wing Zero: "I raised that girl."

Let's hope she doesn't use that thing in any duels.

Got to love ominous chanting in fight music.
This series has them mic drop moments that I love
Suletta passed from a sweetheart to a war goddess.
And a cold-hearted murderer, as Miorine witnessed Suletta squashing an assassin like a mosquito.
Yeah, remember that. Awesome scene, by the way.
I can’t wait for this new OST to come out.
Me then: Wow this fight is intense
Me now: All I see is ghosts..
BRUH 😳 even if they dodged, the legs still melted ! Talk about effective !!
An unhinged Suletta in a Gundam is pretty hard to beat
"Go. Get the hell... OUT OF MY WAY" energy right there.
Anyone else think about how Suletta said "Didn't your mother ever teach you" to a literal orphan??? Ngl thats so out of pocket
It's not like she knew they were orphans though
I love how this was still in duel settings those machines would of exploded if it was set to blue beams
(Edit spelling)
00:40 the permet score UP sound effect!!
The OST hits hard
The sound design in this series deserves an award.
also i loved the scene where they whinged at the terrorists for using kinetic weapons and littering in space.
I love it when gundams have a secret war crime mode that’s so epic
If Sunrise can do anything right, it's Mecha anime and sound design..god damn.
I want to point out: That gun was set to *training* power. This thing will be blowing clean through colonies by the end of the series.
I think Suletta was also a lot more serious here than she’s been in say, the Grassley duel when she was smiling as she took down Shaddiq’s teammates.
if you run gain one move forward gain 2 is mental programming i believe .Sophie een alluded to this when she said Mercury looked different
And there it is a colony beam killer.
The way Norea just SHUDDERS when Suletta is charging up the cannon is awesome
I imagine that the hairs stood on end.
They talk about mining for permit, and permit scores, makes me wonder if it's a mineral like Metatron from Zone of the Enders ... then it would make more sense if the Ariel and gund bits have the absorbed memories and or souls of others inside them.
I'm guessing it's like silver, a mineral that has advanced electronic applications..
This episode is nice, we get a scene like Unicorn and Kshatriya first meeting l, and a Gundam Wing/Gundam Virtue like pose and firepower. :)
That Aerial launch also reminds me of Gundam 00's first launch

Animation is top notch in this scene (BUDGET), and I loved the details. Like once Norea jumped in, the some of the GUND-Bits stayed with the Aerial as a shield, and others were flying around taking shots from different angles (one from right in front of the camera).
How many of us started giggling like madmen the instant that Beam Cannon formed and Norea immediately realized they were screwed? Be honest now y'all.
And then we never see this ever again

Definitely has that oomph to it, but I must say, the Unicorn's Beam Magnum is gold standard in execution.
Was anything ever really a threat to Aerial? Even with her weapons in training mode she out classed other gundams.
It’s a dope suit but in universe nothing really matched its output, even with pilot skills.
Suletta still using the low powered green laser setting reserved for duels almost implies this is all just a game to her.
Only if that’s something she could have changed on the fly and not something that has to be done from the outside/in advance
