This is a good man. He’s sitting here clearly stressed about the situation. I’ve seen people like him become very arrogant and narcissistic on less than he earned as a young man. He’s very much his own person and not flashing fake symbols of wealth (overtly flash designer clothing etc). He states facts and backs them up. This is the man who should be leading the country, with his own choice of advisors around him. Big respect.
What "facts" does he state? He would wreck the country with a year, if he was anywhere near the levels of power. He is a leftist who hasnt a clue how the real world works, he thinks the answer to everything is tax the rich. He never bothers to consider that you can't tax the rich without there being consequences, he thinks you can take from them indefinitely and it wont cost jobs, wont see capital leave, it wont raise prices, that you can just take take take -and it will be fine. That if "the rich just pay their fair share" (whatever that means), it will magically mean the NHS has enough money and waiting lists will be a thing of the past (spoiler alert - it wont), the trains will run on time, the roads will be smooth and free of potholes, and poverty will cease to exist. He is beyond clueless. Not ONCE does he ever consider, "hmm, maybe we should hold government more accountable in how they spend our money?" You know that the UK government blew 450bill on that bug (I cant say what it was or else my comment wont appear, isnt censorship wonderful?) we had 2020-2022? 450billion? And you think shaking down the rich is going to suddenly mean there will be enough for everyone, when they spend that kind of money? Get a grip. His solution is just "get more money from the rich".Does he not think thats not been tried before? Like all socialists, he lives in a fantasy land. His ideas have been tried time and time again, and guess what - they NEVER work, the outcome is ALWAYS the same. Oh disagree, do you? Name me ONE time they have. Ill wait..

Is the problem here purchasing power of money? My basic economics understanding describes money as a medium of exchange and a storage of value. I am trying to tie these in with the notion of relative value, which Gary is describing here.
@@jimisoulman6021 That is correct, but the problem is: you were given a piece of paper that said this is worth one goat. You wait too long (say a year) and then you go back to trade your piece of paper and now suddenly goats are rare (or there's a lot of them), suddenly your paper is worth a different value (i.e. your piece of paper is worth a goat and a half or two goats), because goats have made too many babies, or they haven't made enough. Money, unlike actual bartering, is a relative value dependent on the resource (in this case goats), and therefore subject to change according to conditions...
Novara Media led me to Gary. I’m glad it did. One thing that doesn’t get mentioned much is when the basic rate of income tax reduces that doesn’t just help people on lower incomes, it helps all earners. So those earning over £150k (and actually paying their taxes) not only benefit from less being sliced off from the top of their incomes, but also get a little extra at the bottom end too. Now that in itself isn’t scandalous but it should be taken into account when addressing how tax cuts affect higher earners. If they’re getting a boost from the bottom end then maybe there isn’t the need to cut taxes quite so much at the top.
This is something I also noticed never got talked about. They played up how the basic rate reduction was for low earners, but it affects every earner equally. If anything, it still benefits the super wealthy more as they'll undoubtedly reach the entire basic rate threshold and will get the largest saving from it. It's time that people basically woke up and realised that the only solution out of this is to start normalising tax on capital gains with earned income, closing loopholes, and taxing the super wealth at the top to a far higher degree in order to fund investment in the industries the country needs moving forward. Anything beyond that is simply living in an idealistic past and trying to cling to an economic system that, while great for some in its day, is no longer fit for purpose.
@@davidbates3057 also as you earn over 100k the amount of tax you pay at that 20% rate increases as they reduce the tax code is reduced. So technically a reduction of the lower rate means the rich get more back from that too.
A woman on Question Time said she's buying a house, and two weeks ago, was offered a mortgage at 4.5%.She was told that now all those offers have gone, and was offered a mortgage at 10.5%. The gasps from the audience was telling. Even the presenters were shocked.

I've been trying to wrap my head around this relationship between wealth and poverty for years, and I'm not stupid. But you just summed it up beautifully... "Money is relative" That's it. In it's entirety. You're only a millionaire if I'm not.If we've both got a million you ain't got shit, and neither have I. Unless someone else comes along with nothing, then suddenly we've both got half a million. Wealth is utterly dependent upon poverty. But you can't tax extreme poverty or extreme wealth. So the ideal for the economy is to tax the poor just enough that they can afford to keep paying it without going under. That's why they offer me new credit cards, and overdraft increases, because my statistics show exactly how much debt I can shoulder without going broke, and exactly how much more I could take on if I were desperate. Kwasi Kwarteng reportedly attended a private champagne reception with hedge fund managers at the home of a Conservative donor on the same day he delivered his mini-budget. The chancellor is alleged to have given guests information about forthcoming government spending cuts during the event at the west London home of Andrew Law, a financier, on the evening of Friday 23 September. Kwarteng’s mini-budget earlier in the day, which introduced a £45bn package of tax cuts that will mostly benefit the richest fifth of households, triggered economic turmoil - with sterling collapsing to its lowest level since 1985 and the Bank of England acting to save pension funds.
I would love Gary to comment on this, the fact that Kwarteng is fraternising with hedge fund managers like Crispin "Odious" Odey then them betting against the pound. At best it does sound like some kind of quid pro quo thing going on; at worst insider trading.
yes,and all those people who knew in advance the details of the budget could make a tidy sum by,for example,shorting the pound. I remember a multi-millionaire acquaintance years ago telling me that the only way to make money on the stock market is to get "insider information", i.e advance information that a company will acquire/ be taken over/merged/affected by new legislation... Woteva.
Why has Kwasi not been investigated? Why no accountability for wrecklessly tanking the economy and wiping billions off the UK economy/value of the pound? Why no investigation into short trades that were placed and possible insider trading?

My biggest salute to you Gary is that you didn’t disown your roots. That is a massive asset to us because you could have pulled the ladder up but you didn’t because you’ve lived it and you know what’s happening is wrong and ultimately it will affect you. I really respect that! My only criticism is that in some of your videos, you can be a bit repetitive. But keep going, I’m sharing your videos because we have to make people understand that this will lead down the road to fascism.

For me, you, like Russell brand ironically enough are putting words to things I subconsciously understood or witnessed and to have someone vocalise it like this is hugely commendable. They won't stop until people are dying and buildings are burning. That's my forecast. Upwards of some 500,000 odd have died from austerity and COVID collectively. 4.2 million child now in poverty. The wider community frankly don't care. And they won't care until it impacts them. I've recently called middle class wealth, the new lowerclass and their wealth, a superficial wealth that buys their complacency. Sadly I don't see that changing. You seem to want to carry a burden that is far to large for any one person or even a million. It is noble and righteous to want to do something about all this inequality but I urge you to never take so much blame upon yourself. Do what you can which is already far more than most. When you find yourself worn and withered, take a seat. Breath in the air. Get a drink. Look around and gather your bearings. When you are rested and ready, get back up and join back in. I’d like to be wrong, but I suspect that a massive increase in interest rates will lead to cheap homes available through repossession. This will enable the richest people in the country to expand their assets and push current homeowners into renting. And again, the richest get richer. 😢
I think what will happen is the rich folk will buy the properties, rent them back out to the people who lived there for way more than the mortgage is and universal credit and stuff will top up the income of the renters and all of us pay for that in our high tax, NI & extortionate VAT. so we are basically funnelling our money straight to big landlords.

You're doing good work friend. A writer friend recommended you to me and I now am recommending your work to others. You are doing everything you can so go easy on yourself there. There is on top of what you are saying struteral ineqaulity and a rigid class system in this country and at 80 with a politically active working class father before me I am highly aware of. (My Father was. in the CP and Labour before the War putting up such people as Professor Haldane the author of 'Being the Right Size.') I went to UNI in Montreal I could never have done here. Been successful in high skill jobs in Canada in Spain in Greece in Denmark but on returning to the UK I am again not allowed in the front door. The working classes are deliberatly disempowered as policy. So when such things as this arise we lack power. Our Unions have also been smashed.

Well done mate, that was very clear and direct. I have been Conservative all my life (just short of 50) like you probably a little more successful than I guessed things might go when I was younger, but the older I have gotten the more fragmented I have seen society become. The more detached from reality politics and commerce are getting - which culminated in someone like Truss ending up with the top job most recently. That she threw Kwarteng under the bus to survive another few minutes I guess will surprise no one. That the government somehow thought she had the goods for the job should cause some humility and reflection (no chance of that) when they inevitably throw her to the wolves and need to find the next arsehole. I would never vote Conservative again. Its humiliating living here now.

Really love your economic analysis. I did economics at A level and considered quiet successful compared to the people I grew up with in relative poverty, own my business and would be considered middle class on income scale. These mistakes for me go back to 2008 a time I was going to go to university but went the following year. The government has made huge mistakes time and time again over distribution of wealth and there will be a tipping point either in new government or revolution etc. Because of the government debt I think the bank of England is limited on how much it can raise the base rate to combat inflation, as I believe Western economies, especially the UK will be at risk of default. I do not see government debts ever being paid back under the current economic model unless they tax wealth and nationalise things like energy and use those profits for public services and social homes etc. I believe we are at the later stages of capitalism and the only way to save it is a dramatic re-distribution of wealth through taxation and nationalising many industry's and sectors including commercial banking. Money does not act like it, is suppose to in economics books under the free market model, it does not efficiently allocate scarce resources to those who need it most, liberal capitalism could never work because its built on flawd principles. Given the events of the last few weeks, I have been trying to gain a better understanding of the economic problems we all face, as I have often been so confused by the overly technical language used and just general seemingly complicated nature of the field. I'm well educated (studying for a PhD in chemistry) and pretty good at maths, but have always found it really difficult to get my head around macroeconomics and what different factors we should be concerned about. Your videos have been incredibly helpful at highlighting the problems we face, explaining what uber-wealth is actually like to someone who grew up somewhat poor and can't comprehend having that much wealth, and how important it is we tackle this for our future. Very clearly put. Thank you. Keep going, you're generating word of mouth Historically, it's been the less educated, vulnerable working class that have been affected by redistribution. As time goes on, the need to make the rich more wealthy affects the educated middle class more- there are only so many assets to swallow. However, the higher the greed goes, the more likely this will be noticed by people with greater education and influence- the higher the chance for change.

He said they don't believe that taking money from the rich and using it for the less well off via paying for government funded work like education, police, NHS etc does nothing to increase wealth of the country leading, in time, to loss of competition against other countries. I think that was the argument but it was a year or so back and I struggled to agree/see their point so haven't remembered it too well
"WHY is this government STILL persisting in going down this road??" Greed, arrogance, narcissism -- a refusal to accept that they have been wrong all this time. That they are not as great as they believe themselves to be. So, while there is certainly an amount of stupidity within, it extends from the belief that they and they alone are entitled to wealthy and power that they have attained as well as any that is available while also believing that all others are not. Anything that deviates from those beliefs and shows otherwise is simply something in the way and therefore any means needed to prop up the belief even if contradictory to the belief is acceptable.
Ppl think they are stupid or incompetent but need to realise that they are doing it on purpose. Cause stock markets to crash so tgey and their mates can buy up stocks then make money when they go up. Same with NHS it's all lip service saying they are for NHS want to fix it etc. Lots of the Tory MP's have shares in private healthcare, they ate just trying to make more money for themselves. It's not what they say its what they do.
Im sorry to say it loud but They and their children are the reason why their grandchildren will have a bleak future. WE can make it better for our future generations but we can't be bothered. Im so frustrated with people around me. They are busy watching stupid ticktokers but they are not interested in anything whats happening around them! Im on various "mums / family" groups and I can see posts about " how to stay warm without heating" or "how to save money on food " at least few times a day yet not once I've seen a post - "what should we do to change the situation"

As for getting your message out, your explanations are good but have you considered doing short (few minutes) infographic-like explainers for how greater inequality and inflation makes most people poorer? Could be good to get that crucial idea out there on social media and spread the recognition of that injustice
Most certainly yes. Everyone that see this who maybe thought the Government was telling the Truth may be more skeptical after watching this and maybe be able to make a little more sense of why what they are seeing with own eyes is different from what the government and mainstream medias picture they try to paint for you. That sounds good. I’ve always questioned this idea of work. The currency of your life is your time and we accept that we must exchange it for tokens ‘cash’ which are made up by central banks. It’s the water we swim in so we can’t see another way. There are alternatives.
Even with my O level economics I’ve wondered for several years whether the government have already allocated land for shanty towns in the UK, because I could see them coming. When I’ve said this people thought I was joking or catastrophising because I’m not well off. I fear my prediction will soon come to fruition and we’ll find out.
Maybe they are already here, but hidden and scattered amongst everyone else Would you consider three or four people sharing a one bed flat to be shanty town conditions? Because such conditions have existed for decades, and are only getting more common
I'm considering buying a bus to convert to living space. 1 years rent will do it but my credit rating is dogshit because I don't own a house and had a ccj against me I knew nothing about put on my last address from identity theft. Ccj just cleared. I've spent 3 months living in my van and 9 months paying for a premiere inn and b and b which uni credit say is not housing expenses.
Gary, you should always do these videos. The world needs them. Only a man who grew up in a poor household can have the empathy and compassion for suffering that you do. It’s sad to see that people don’t intuitively know trickle down was always BS. Look at places like India, it’s politics are like Truss, and look what a malfunctioning country India is. The fact that you got rich predicting the remarkably obvious, shows how intellectually challenged the average Joe is. That’s the saddest thing.
The indian comparrison is not a very good point. One of India's (Vast & complex) problems is that it has been and still is a Kleptocrasy mascarading as the worlds largest democracy. The tax system there in theory actually does benefit the poor as they have a tax cap, so that the poor dont pay until they reach a certain point that will provide a reletivly comfortable life. The problem with this system is tax avoidence and a paralel underground economy.

I really agree with the sentiments expressed in this video. It is also worth making the point that richer people need poorer people to get wealthy too. This is the complete travesty of government policy, there cannot be any growth if ordinary people don't have money to spend. By and large the wealthy people who own factories, shops, restaurants etc also need those ordinary people to have wealth in order to sustain their businesses and wealth too. It is only a very select few even among the wealthy that are immune to this.
Great Video Gary. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and analysis. There are so many layers to the economic shit storm that this country is experiencing. One that I think is fundamental is the pervasive nature of debt - not just mortgages but other consumer debt, which has been the main way people in the UK have been supplementing stagnant wages for the past twenty-thirty years. We have experienced ridiculously low interest rates for the past 14 years meaning debt has remained unchecked. Now interest rates are spiking the chickens are coming home to roost. Can you make a video covering debt in general and how it has become an essential part of our economy? What debt is used for in working class, middle class households? Furthermore what can we do to free ourselves of debt?
You are right about mortgages in the 80's ours went to 13.75% actually even on smaller mortgages many struggled- not much could be had for £40,000 in the 80's in 86 the cheapest 2 bedroom in a very cheap area (West Ham/Stratford)which had problems with the roof which had to be fixed before we could get a mortgage. I agree it's much harder now-but with the average job it was very hard even in the 80's, I had to work in the City for 7 years working 60-70 hours a week to make it work.
You make a lot of good points keep it up. As some one who took out a signifcant mortgage in 2008, I have been fortunate to ignore the messages from banks to take out futher credit and to work on hammering the debt down. Having seen the massive increases in interest rates and felt its effect immediately, I completely agree with what your saying. I manage and own a small business, can I suggest that you make a video on the Valuation Office and Business rates - its a highly disfunctional part of the HMRC and I have personally spent the last 7 years making cases against them. It also has a massive effect on small businesses (and properties - council tax) which should make up the back bone of Britain and supporting the economy, the constant nudging and uplifting has a huge impact on the public and I dont think enough people are aware of this. Is the problem here purchasing power of money? My basic economics understanding describes money as a medium of exchange and a storage of value. I am trying to tie these in with the notion of relative value, which Gary is describing here.

You wait too long (say a year) and then you go back to trade your piece of paper and now suddenly goats are rare (or there's a lot of them), suddenly your paper is worth a different value (i.e. your piece of paper is worth a goat and a half or two goats), because goats have made too many babies, or they haven't made enough. Money, unlike actual bartering, is a relative value dependent on the resource (in this case goats), and therefore subject to change according to conditions...
Novara Media led me to Gary. I’m glad it did. One thing that doesn’t get mentioned much is when the basic rate of income tax reduces that doesn’t just help people on lower incomes, it helps all earners. So those earning over £150k (and actually paying their taxes) not only benefit from less being sliced off from the top of their incomes, but also get a little extra at the bottom end too. Now that in itself isn’t scandalous but it should be taken into account when addressing how tax cuts affect higher earners. If they’re getting a boost from the bottom end then maybe there isn’t the need to cut taxes quite so much at the top.

This is something I also noticed never got talked about. They played up how the basic rate reduction was for low earners, but it affects every earner equally. If anything, it still benefits the super wealthy more as they'll undoubtedly reach the entire basic rate threshold and will get the largest saving from it.
It's time that people basically woke up and realised that the only solution out of this is to start normalising tax on capital gains with earned income, closing loopholes, and taxing the super wealth at the top to a far higher degree in order to fund investment in the industries the country needs moving forward. Anything beyond that is simply living in an idealistic past and trying to cling to an economic system that, while great for some in its day, is no longer fit for purpose.
@@davidbates3057 also as you earn over 100k the amount of tax you pay at that 20% rate increases as they reduce the tax code is reduced. So technically a reduction of the lower rate means the rich get more back from that too.

I've been trying to wrap my head around this relationship between wealth and poverty for years, and I'm not stupid. But you just summed it up beautifully... "Money is relative" That's it. In it's entirety. You're only a millionaire if I'm not.If we've both got a million you ain't got shit, and neither have I. Unless someone else comes along with nothing, then suddenly we've both got half a million. Wealth is utterly dependent upon poverty. But you can't tax extreme poverty or extreme wealth. So the ideal for the economy is to tax the poor just enough that they can afford to keep paying it without going under. That's why they offer me new credit cards, and overdraft increases, because my statistics show exactly how much debt I can shoulder without going broke, and exactly how much more I could take on if I were desperate. Kwasi Kwarteng reportedly attended a private champagne reception with hedge fund managers at the home of a Conservative donor on the same day he delivered his mini-budget.
The chancellor is alleged to have given guests information about forthcoming government spending cuts during the event at the west London home of Andrew Law, a financier, on the evening of Friday 23 September.
Kwarteng’s mini-budget earlier in the day, which introduced a £45bn package of tax cuts that will mostly benefit the richest fifth of households, triggered economic turmoil - with sterling collapsing to its lowest level since 1985 and the Bank of England acting to save pension funds.
I would love Gary to comment on this, the fact that Kwarteng is fraternising with hedge fund managers like Crispin "Odious" Odey then them betting against the pound. At best it does sound like some kind of quid pro quo thing going on; at worst insider trading.

My biggest salute to you Gary is that you didn’t disown your roots. For me, you, like Russell brand ironically enough are putting words to things I subconsciously understood or witnessed and to have someone vocalise it like this is hugely commendable. They won't stop until people are dying and buildings are burning. That's my forecast. Upwards of some 500,000 odd have died from austerity and COVID collectively. 4.2 million child now in poverty. The wider community frankly don't care. And they won't care until it impacts them. I’d like to be wrong, but I suspect that a massive increase in interest rates will lead to cheap homes available through repossession. This will enable the richest people in the country to expand their assets and push current homeowners into renting. And again, the richest get richer. 😢
I think what will happen is the rich folk will buy the properties, rent them back out to the people who lived there for way more than the mortgage is and universal credit and stuff will top up the income of the renters and all of us pay for that in our high tax, NI & extortionate VAT. so we are basically funnelling our money straight to big landlords.

You're doing good work friend. A writer friend recommended you to me and I now am recommending your work to others. You are doing everything you can so go easy on yourself there. There is on top of what you are saying struteral ineqaulity and a rigid class system in this country and at 80 with a politically active working class father before me I am highly aware of. (My Father was. in the CP and Labour before the War putting up such people as Professor Haldane the author of 'Being the Right Size.') I went to UNI in Montreal I could never have done here. Been successful in high skill jobs in Canada in Spain in Greece in Denmark but on returning to the UK I am again not allowed in the front door. The working classes are deliberatly disempowered as policy. So when such things as this arise we lack power. Our Unions have also been smashed.

Well done mate, that was very clear and direct. I have been Conservative all my life (just short of 50) like you probably a little more successful than I guessed things might go when I was younger, but the older I have gotten the more fragmented I have seen society become. The more detached from reality politics and commerce are getting - which culminated in someone like Truss ending up with the top job most recently. That she threw Kwarteng under the bus to survive another few minutes I guess will surprise no one. That the government somehow thought she had the goods for the job should cause some humility and reflection (no chance of that) when they inevitably throw her to the wolves and need to find the next arsehole. I would never vote Conservative again. Its humiliating living here now.

Really love your economic analysis. I did economics at A level and considered quiet successful compared to the people I grew up with in relative poverty, own my business and would be considered middle class on income scale. These mistakes for me go back to 2008 a time I was going to go to university but went the following year. The government has made huge mistakes time and time again over distribution of wealth and there will be a tipping point either in new government or revolution etc. Because of the government debt I think the bank of England is limited on how much it can raise the base rate to combat inflation, as I believe Western economies, especially the UK will be at risk of default. I do not see government debts ever being paid back under the current economic model unless they tax wealth and nationalise things like energy and use those profits for public services and social homes etc. I believe we are at the later stages of capitalism and the only way to save it is a dramatic re-distribution of wealth through taxation and nationalising many industry's and sectors including commercial banking. Money does not act like it, is suppose to in economics books under the free market model, it does not efficiently allocate scarce resources to those who need it most, liberal capitalism could never work because its built on flawd principles. Given the events of the last few weeks, I have been trying to gain a better understanding of the economic problems we all face, as I have often been so confused by the overly technical language used and just general seemingly complicated nature of the field. I'm well educated (studying for a PhD in chemistry) and pretty good at maths, but have always found it really difficult to get my head around macroeconomics and what different factors we should be concerned about. Your videos have been incredibly helpful at highlighting the problems we face, explaining what uber-wealth is actually like to someone who grew up somewhat poor and can't comprehend having that much wealth, and how important it is we tackle this for our future. Historically, it's been the less educated, vulnerable working class that have been affected by redistribution. As time goes on, the need to make the rich more wealthy affects the educated middle class more- there are only so many assets to swallow. However, the higher the greed goes, the more likely this will be noticed by people with greater education and influence- the higher the chance for change.

Greed, arrogance, narcissism -- a refusal to accept that they have been wrong all this time. That they are not as great as they believe themselves to be.
So, while there is certainly an amount of stupidity within, it extends from the belief that they and they alone are entitled to wealthy and power that they have attained as well as any that is available while also believing that all others are not. Anything that deviates from those beliefs and shows otherwise is simply something in the way and therefore any means needed to prop up the belief even if contradictory to the belief is acceptable.
Ppl think they are stupid or incompetent but need to realise that they are doing it on purpose. Cause stock markets to crash so tgey and their mates can buy up stocks then make money when they go up. Same with NHS it's all lip service saying they are for NHS want to fix it etc. Lots of the Tory MP's have shares in private healthcare, they ate just trying to make more money for themselves. Even with my O level economics I’ve wondered for several years whether the government have already allocated land for shanty towns in the UK, because I could see them coming. When I’ve said this people thought I was joking or catastrophising because I’m not well off.
I fear my prediction will soon come to fruition and we’ll find out.

I'm considering buying a bus to convert to living space. 1 years rent will do it but my credit rating is dogshit because I don't own a house and had a ccj against me I knew nothing about put on my last address from identity theft. Ccj just cleared. I've spent 3 months living in my van and 9 months paying for a premiere inn and b and b which uni credit say is not housing expenses.
Gary, you should always do these videos. The world needs them. Only a man who grew up in a poor household can have the empathy and compassion for suffering that you do. It’s sad to see that people don’t intuitively know trickle down was always BS. Look at places like India, it’s politics are like Truss, and look what a malfunctioning country India is. The fact that you got rich predicting the remarkably obvious, shows how intellectually challenged the average Joe is. That’s the saddest thing.
The indian comparrison is not a very good point. One of India's (Vast & complex) problems is that it has been and still is a Kleptocrasy mascarading as the worlds largest democracy. The tax system there in theory actually does benefit the poor as they have a tax cap, so that the poor dont pay until they reach a certain point that will provide a reletivly comfortable life. The problem with this system is tax avoidence and a paralel underground economy.

I really agree with the sentiments expressed in this video. It is also worth making the point that richer people need poorer people to get wealthy too. This is the complete travesty of government policy, there cannot be any growth if ordinary people don't have money to spend. By and large the wealthy people who own factories, shops, restaurants etc also need those ordinary people to have wealth in order to sustain their businesses and wealth too. It is only a very select few even among the wealthy that are immune to this.

One that I think is fundamental is the pervasive nature of debt - not just mortgages but other consumer debt, which has been the main way people in the UK have been supplementing stagnant wages for the past twenty-thirty years. We have experienced ridiculously low interest rates for the past 14 years meaning debt has remained unchecked. Now interest rates are spiking the chickens are coming home to roost. Can you make a video covering debt in general and how it has become an essential part of our economy? What debt is used for in working class, middle class households? Furthermore what can we do to free ourselves of debt?
You are right about mortgages in the 80's ours went to 13.75% actually even on smaller mortgages many struggled- not much could be had for £40,000 in the 80's in 86 the cheapest 2 bedroom in a very cheap area (West Ham/Stratford)which had problems with the roof which had to be fixed before we could get a mortgage. I agree it's much harder now-but with the average job it was very hard even in the 80's, I had to work in the City for 7 years working 60-70 hours a week to make it work.

You make a lot of good points keep it up. As some one who took out a signifcant mortgage in 2008, I have been fortunate to ignore the messages from banks to take out futher credit and to work on hammering the debt down. Having seen the massive increases in interest rates and felt its effect immediately, I completely agree with what your saying. I manage and own a small business, can I suggest that you make a video on the Valuation Office and Business rates - its a highly disfunctional part of the HMRC and I have personally spent the last 7 years making cases against them. It also has a massive effect on small businesses (and properties - council tax) which should make up the back bone of Britain and supporting the economy, the constant nudging and uplifting has a huge impact on the public and I dont think enough people are aware of this.
