I believe Jonah decided that "this song needs more vocals" and brought a chalkboard to the studio with each and every "voice" to sing described, and recorded himself over and over again.
@@RobertClaeson Almost. It was Aron who came up with and wrote the gospel parts, according to an interview with Henrik, in Bass Magazine, but Jonah did have a chalk board with all the characters of the choir. :D
As Irene Snyder pointed out, the choir is all Jonah. Henrik (the bass player) said this about the creation of Next To You, in an interview in BassMagazine: "That song took forever to write. Aron and I wrote the chorus in 2016. We found it in a drawer and tried a bunch of new verses with it until we got the right one. Then at the last minute, Aron wrote the gospel choir parts. He sent a very funny demo in which he marked where all the different gospel parts come in and what kind of voice they had. When Jonah recorded them, he had a chalkboard with all the different characters in the choir, and he distorted his voice to match each character and so none of them would sound like him. The groove has our typical, swung-funk, triplet feel, but the key is the Bootsy funk formula of having a heavy one to make all the subdivisions after it work. Aron wrote the chorus bass line, which is keyboard bass-like, and it worked best with a combination of fingers and slapping." Both interesting and funny, eh? Also, their credits are full of funny stuff mixed in with the real info. Don't take everything at face value; they are such trolls. The dietician mentioned in the credits of Work Shit Out was ... Jabba the Hut, hence the mention here of the princess in a questionable bikini. 😂😂😂
Super interesting, Lotta, thanks, and yeah, quite funny ;) ;) ;) To think that this track took forever to write and to hear about the complicated writing process is mind blowing, when listening to it feels so…right, natural and easy. Three masters at work ⭐️⭐️⭐️
"This is a call to some god" -- I would say that this song is at least in part modelled on the structure of gospel music, like the big choir and how when the verse-chorus is done, we slide into a groovy vamp ("the vamp" in gospel is when the chorus starts repeating a phrase and the soloist improvises over it) and then the fast paced finale.
The origin is probably nineties indie pop in this case. Many bands do not take the finale seriously enough. It's just stupid to trip over the finish line.
Lol! It's truly amazing. One of my favorites. A word to the wise, if you're singing along to this in the car, it is very easy to get swept away with the harmonies, attempt some hallelujah arm movements, forget what you're doing, & nearly drive into the ditch. Also, welcome to quite possibly the world's happiest church choir song that touts one's desire to get up next to someone in spite of the fact that you keep blowing up like TNT. So there's that, yeah. Perfection! Thanks for the reaction!
Love them so much. So glad you're reacting to them. Simply top notch musicians AND a sense of humor - what more can I ask for? I've been obsessed since the first time I heard them.
The music industry makes no sense. The stuff that is on the radio and wins awards.... then there's these guys... three of the most world class musicians on earth, and yet, no one knows who they are. 🤔🤔🤔
That riff at 11:52 that made you get up and leave? Same here. It does that to quite a few people I’ve seen. He’s literally the best male singer in history. I said it.
This is legit one of my favourite reactions to one of my fav DLoops songs! I’m sure I commented months ago, but it disappeared, so just quickly again: Loved all your faces and comments :) 1:40, 2:14 🤣, 3:02 and 3:42 are just the beginning, lol! Yeah, that bass and that funky groove. It almost has a swung feel to me…. It has been a while since your last DL reaction, QoFy -any more coming? ;) Pick any of their songs, and it’ll be insanely good 👍
Good stuff, love your giddy appreciation :-) They DID resolve the last note...that slower part it goes into for the credits resolved and noodles around within a comfort zone of notes.
tnx! it was a really thoughtful reaction, you can also sing and play i guess and therefore u picked up on all details and made it an interesting reaction. I also push for Jonahs new soloalbum and hope you will react to "diamond ring" from that album, magic:)
I do believe that neither the bass or drummer sing anything at all. I've looked at live stuff. They don't sing. They have an extra keyboard player that does tho
Check out all Dirty Loops reactions 😊 :

Have you reacted to their cover of Undo? it's live :)
Same
I love you Brad....but I love the Undertaker more. :-)
Jonah Nilsson did ALL of the vocals on this song - Aron & Henrik were just vamping for the video. They are truly modern musical geniuses!

I've watched probably hundreds of Dirty Loops reaction videos, but yours has been--by far--my favorite! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve been waiting for that last note for 2yrs!! Hahaha but like you said, “They’re breaking the rules of music”.
Great reaction mate ❤️😊🔥💪🏻

Educated music needs educated listeners - and we dont get much education nowdays. Tic Toc killed the whatever star
I love their sense of humor putting Henrik behind the drums etc…lol. Love these guys.
