I know another story about deaf young boy from southern, was somehow captured, and brought to the Northern camp. Officers tried to talk with him. Somehow one solider from Illinois, as sibling of deaf brother, heard about it, and he was willing to help interpreting for the officers and deaf guy. After that he was freed. Otherwise he could have been hung. WOW Godspeed action!
