    Whenever a new guy walks in, we can always immediately tell if he has kitchen experience or not. Even if they try to fake it with stuff they learned online, we can always immediately tell.

    • @10_Bit
      @10_Bit 9 месяцев назад +71

      Would you be able to tell if the new cook was a home cook or not and what are the tell-tales?

    • @filmdude9970
      @filmdude9970 9 месяцев назад +762

      @10_Bit Yeah we would. A lot of tell-tale signs are subtle that all add up insanely quickly in the subconscious mind.
      1. No sense of urgency, means this is likely a home cook. Lack of Urgency in their movements, in learning, and just in general.
      2. Looking for oven mitts instead of towels. Or not treating towels like an extension of their hands.
      3. Not setting up their station properly. Like having everything in place, wet paper towel underneath cutting board, not having a bowl for waste trimmings, not having a towel for wiping the station throughout service.
      4. Not knowing how to waltz around people, and not knowing to waltz out of the way when someone needs passage. They're generally planted on their feet. I remember training a cook who had someone coming up behind him, and he just moved without even really seeing that someone was behind him, I knew right away he was the real deal.
      5. Not having all his equipment: pen, sharpie, notepad, thermometer, microplane, knives, timer, etc.
      6. A lot of green horns try to fake it by pointing stuff out like "shouldn't we be wearing gloves for this?" And that is one of the most obvious signs that one has zero experience. Or if they try to do stuff they saw on tiktok like trying to "wash chicken".
      7. The way they hold their knife, and their knife skills.
      8. If he doesn't have any visible cuts and burn scars.
      9. He asks "when do we get breaks?" Never, there is no such thing.
      10. How he seasons food. If he salts evenly, and if he salts liberally then that is a cook. If he is a little scared about too much salt because of health concerns, he is a home cook. It is not our job to give af about their health, it's our job to make the food taste good.
      A cook basically acts like a good military dog, being prepared at all times, fully equipped, on their toes, and ready to move. It's very hard to fake, because we are like that from a lot of trauma lol.

    There are certain giveaways just like any other industry. Timidness: Too afraid to walk around like you own the place, which is what you need to do to grab what you need and get your section done on time, otherwise you WILL look lost and be an annoyance more than anything. Hesistancy: Looking or standing around, as if waiting to be told what to do is another tell. Everyone understands their station, even if they're new to the restaurant or what have you. You also have physcial tells, but those are lesser giveaways as callous hands, dry hands, cut hands, or burnt hands can be misleading, for better or for worse.
    However, in his case, I'd wager what gave him away was his knife holding or cutting technique, and likely moving way too slow

    Real chefs always know 😊
    When I was in college I was doing hospitality and for the culinary part we had to learn how to use kitchen equipment properly and the chef was a hard ass about cutting and would make you repeat anything you screwed up....i screwed up a couple of vegetables so chef had me chopping vegetables for ages until I didn't suck anymore.
    And cos he was kind of a butthole he had me cut up a huge bag of onions for the whole class my eyes were red that whole day sooo many onions
    ...Now I'm older those memories are hilarious but I don't suck in the kitchen so I respect the chef who taught me tho I still occasionally think he's a butthole but thanks to his teaching I am really good at my job. 😊
    Thanks chef buttholes you guys are awesome even when your a bunch of hard-asses with your meticulousness.

    I feel the word “submissive” has been interpreted wrongly by both men and women, first many men(not all😂) of this time period take it as an excuse to do women dirty and expect women to fold their arms and not say a thing, that in turn makes women of this time period feel it’s about slavery, the way I’m sure it was intended(in the Bible) was about men and women co-existing and a wife trusting her husband to take decision and protect her and just relinquish control knowing fully well the man won’t hurt her, but help her to grow as a human being and they both can grow together peacefully in love and it doesn’t mean if she has an opinion on an issue she wouldn’t be able to tell her husband she feels this is not the way to go, but it involves both of them listening to each other and taking the best decision, that’s what I feel, but of course the fear of the word in this time and age is warranted cause it’s misinterpreted 😅😅😅
