Actually its not Cathy its Craig. A little arrogant and narrow minded to call someone nasty for expressing an opinion that's happens to disagree with yours. You believe that he is a good singer well that's fine. In my opinion his performance was really poor and I have never heard him sing anything that I have liked . This version in my opinion and after having spent ages on RUclips listening to lots of versions of this hymn was a real disappointment. I thought that the idea of making comments was to exchange opinions not all agree. If you think Michael Ball is a great singer enjoy him but don't expect everybody else to think that he is. What criteria are you using to class him as a great singer? RUclips views would not back this up.
RUclips views would only back up those who are pop icons and who rely on the skill of others to make them sound perfect your criteria listed is shallow and very poor. Its okay to not like him but what you hate about him is why he is so good his got a raw natural voice and vibrato that is unique and powerful timber that is fairly on par with opera singers and he brings that to musicals without making them always sound like operettas its fairly unique.
Sorry ladies but this was a really poor performance.Could not hit the high notes a pompous arrogant performance. If you want to hear how it should be sung listen to Libera, Susan Boyle or Donna Summer.On this performance I would not have him selling popcorn next year. As for being one of the best singers we have in what genre? never a pop singer, Stage performance not in the same league as Alfie Bow or Colm Wilkinson and he would not get near Paul Potts, Russell Watson or Jonathon. Really has been living on a faded memory of a few decent performances in the west End but these were decades ago.This concert was breathtakingly good until it was ruined by a really awful performance of the Nations favourite hymn
i,personally,love michael ball but i understand why you didn't like this performance.What i find very disturbing is your disrespect towards him.Michael ball originated great musical theater roles like marius from les miz and raoul from phantom(let's not mention his groundbreaking high-B at love changes everything from Aspects Of Love).He's getting older and his voice isn't the same anymore but let's just be grateful that this living legend is still here and singing for us.He loves what he's doing and he does it to the best of his abilities
you sound like you have something personal against Michael Ball. The other singers you mention are vastly different from each other let alone MB, so no comparison really! Personally I see no talent at all in Colm Wilkinson and don't understand why everyone seems to revere him! Each to their own, I would never be so rude as you are about other people's likes etc.

This has been my favorite Christmas Hymn, since I was a little girl!!! I am so glad I found Michael singing this hymn!!!!!! He is Wonderful!!!!
