8200 RPM'S and totally worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 26 Lightning ET prop with a 2:1 gear case running it till it blows!!! Got 91 mph with the smallest prop I own lol!
Thank you for not feeding awful music onto this ideo,I cannot stand to simply watch too many boating videos due to that illness it seems? And love the video and natural sounds that boating meant to me in an earlier lfe, thanks again.H
No problem! I prefer to hear the natural sounds of an over-reving old school motor too instead of music cover lol! Its all about camera placement and perfect timing of the demonstration on how to blow a motor up :-)
Yeah, I remember a few of the XP and GT OMC's on a couple of Streams and a GORGEOUS Laser 380 Ray on the lake I grew up on.. oh, and a 150GT on a Laser 380 copy which was a Starcraft Eagle in a beautiful silver metalflake that just gleamed in the sun!!
The water begins to steam at wide open throttle. I ran vipers for yrs at 1 inch propshaft centerline under the pad centerline. The only way to see the water flowat w.o.t. is to run a tiny hose up to the windsheild line and you can see the water flowing when your going fast. Water pressure gauges also measure STEAM. !!#!# good luck
I ran two temp gauges, a water pressure gauge, two open flow lines to watch, and two steam pocket reliefs on the top of each cylinder bank that dumped out of the cowl to also watch....thought I had the water part covered but I guess I need to go to OMC school LOL. Boat was sold a few yrs ago and motor still runs so maybe I wasn't as big of an idiot as I thought I was. :-)
130 degree T-stats, plus the crossflows have a pressure relief so they will actually run a bit cooler pending on rpm......I took a pic of the temp gauge (that I checked at various temps with a temp gun and it was stupidly accurate) when she blew up and it was right at 125 so definitely not an overheat. I guess most people don't realize that this motor was born a 5800rpm motor and getting them to spin over 8k makes the sleeves very unhappy to which they get out of round bad enough to take out a piston. That's what happened to this block and STILL totally worth it!!!!!
How do you know the motor is too high? There was plenty of pressure pending on how high I ran the motor at cruising speeds.....that's how I regulated the temperature as the thermostats were removed.
Upon viewing the viper video was scary.. the boat has no weight and to run a 400+# motor on the penthouse shows... Two solutions.. one you have the midsection reduced by 5 inches.. means shaft cut and lots of modifications.. or you die in this death trap . Your center of gravity is very unpredictable.. also to trim that far down on a hole shot looks stupid . I was in the game and decided to live.. I'm the prop guy who's tricks make the boat fly . Good luck..😀😎
Boat is gone now, but didn't have ANY issues with a 20" transom on that boat (it's called driving) and having a motor that tucks in while one is getting on plane is a mechanical advantage, who gives a shit what it looks like lol! BTW.....after 20 yrs of running these boats I'm still alive so I guess your theory sucks.
@@Chadwicky69 yep, gotta love the keyboard warriors.. I, like yourself, have been running, setting up, building and modding outboard motors along with a lot of other engine powered go-fast stuff. Sweet stream, I'm setup to finally get tla Laser LTV that I have been wanting for a few years now!! God willing it goes through, cause I have a sick 2.5 custom built bridged exhaust port sleeved block I'll be building for it! Can't wait for 0 to 100mph pinned to the seat again!!
@@BabyCharlotteschannel I still have my Voyager with a 280ROS & my buddy has its sister with a 260....pics of us together are around on the net & seeing two (almost) identical boats ripping over 90mph still trips my trigger!!! Love to see that sleeve as a bridge in a 2.5 is rare but I did see Ruck working on a "Z" port sleeve b4 he retired. Wait, I forgot to see if our boat & motor facts were approved by Fitzgerald to make sure they weren't stupid prior to posting this.....WHOOPS

Mirageman0373 running fine.. Evinrude just like a timex. Sound like it's knocking but it's not..
OMG 3.10 Nice setting your upgrade is good.jack plate propeller and more nothing to say it's perfect for a 150hp
Nice way for an OMC to go ;-)
Thats how you blow a motor up!!! Only you Chad!!
yeah baby that`s awsome!! and sounded really smooth with loads of torque... till it went obviously... anyway nice combination of mods you got there!
What year boat and motor, and how many HP?
PUUREEEEE GOOOOOLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I have a 1985 runs like new.😎
lol. nice.
