- We wanted to keep the original bumper but bring it up and in to tighten up the back of the truck. We used original style bumper brackets and simply trimmed them and then flipped the bumper over and it worked perfectly.

Great video! We de did this on my truck, bumper looks so much better now.
Glad it helped. Yeah, the original location of these bumpers is way too far out and low.
Good info to help me place my bumper on my 1939 chevy truck.
really cool tip, I have a '54 and went with a roll pan with the recest license plate box
Good job. I have a 1954 Dodge Fargo 1/2 ton that I am working on. I want to move both my front and rear bumper in a couple of inches. I like you idea. It is better than cutting and welding. Thanks for sharing. Drop ove and see what I am having fun with.
Thanks Andy. I'll definitely check out your build. There are some pics of how the rear bumper of our 53 turned out on our blog at raybuck.com/the-raybuck-1953-chevy-truck-build/
Do the bumper brackets slide along the inside or outside of the frame rails?
Mine are on the inside of the frame. Not 100% sure, but I think originally they were on the inside of the frame as well.
Where'd you get the after market brackets? I have a 49' 3600 I'm building
We sell them. raybuck.com/product/1947-55-gm-1st-series-pickup-rear-bumper-bracket/
my truck came with no back bumper, now it hides my rear license plate, I noticed your tail lights are higher up
The tail lights on our truck are in a factory location. When we tucked the bumper in, we mounted the license plate to the tail light and didn't have to modify it.
