Im pretty sure the reason they dont have side rods is so that they can move their axels like robots
( either that or Siderods are obsolete in aeg , the character who still has them is Ashima , granted there only on her upper wheel configuration)

You’ve got some balls holding a Dremel very close to fingers that have no protection clothing on at all. (Gloves etc). In my 47 years of being alive, I’ve always worn gloves or a hard rubber strap around my hand if I have to use a dremel that close to my fingers
