Historic old city, good density, and lots of interesting architectural gems. The city has a very big urban footprint / downtown relative to the population size.
As a railfan the CNJ or Jersey Central used to run through here back in the day, The station for the road was at Hamilton St along the mainline from Jersey City into Scranton. B&O and Reading RR also used a portion of it towards Bound Brook
I’m thinking of moving into this town. Right now I’m in upstate NY and I’ve grown in Lancaster county pa but it’s so expensive so I’ve thought about moving to Allentown and just working at the hospital. I have a lot of experience in that field. Would you say it’s a decent job to work ??

In the 1960s II lived at 4th at Tilhgman (spelling) when I worked and Hess’s and Zollingers in the display department. Allot has changed since then and Hamilton St has lost its downtown appeal and become use another street. Now I live in the Pacific Northwest in Longview WA after a career in theatre. Got my start as Allentown’s Civic Theatre and the Municipal Opera company. thanks for the memories.
missed my favorite hidden detail of Allentown. if you take S 4th street south until it ends, the take MLK Jr Drive, it takes you along this nice scenic natural area along the Little Lehigh Creek. nice bit of nature in the otherwise very urban area. (don't try the google street view of it, it's messed up. looks like the googlemobile got into an accident or something.) oh, and Dorney Park, of course.
That's my city born and raised....you past my street tho....I live in Illinois now with my wife but that's my childhood and teenage years stompin grounds
I lived in the ancient oaks neighborhood off spring Creek RD and Emmaus through my early teens. Always went through Allentown but never stayed for the day. Just when festivals happen. I live by Clearwater FL now. Born here anyway. Allentown even have a good nightlife scene?
Wow I used to live here. You drive through a quiet time. I didn't hear any good Bad Bunny. And that Bodega off America Parkway had some solid food..and the spot by Ridge is the tightest street in Allentown
The loud, horrible music and cars ripping it at red lights tells you everything you need to know about Allentown lmao. There's a reason people from Bethlehem and Easton avoid it like the plague
Facts! I used to deliver for a place in Bethlehem and we'd deliver to Allentown. One night a guy threatened to shoot me because I was having an issue with the customer and his order. It was an alley with no parking lol he could have went around but wanted to argue with me.
I live here and haven’t been across the 8th St bridge since it reopened. Don’t often go that way; but it was closed so long we are used to taking different roads.

You should have been there in the mid 70s. Was a great place to be a kid. I don't remember the street but we lived directly across the street from the Masonic temple and about 75 yards from West park. Back then the park had live music on the weekends. Now it probably has live drug dealers and dead hookers.
I see what you mean. The Lehigh Valley does seem lacking compared to the Philly area and I used to hate it when I used to live there years ago………However in retrospect, I kind of appreciate it now since I was able to drive to New York in a relatively short time and thus created lots of good NYC memories
Trexler Park is a nice area to visit,
It's nice little Park.
