What if somebody had to confine in the mountain? During pandemic times, the term “mountain” made us think of the idea of refuge. For that reason, any mountains, with their mythological strength, are immediately perceived as the first place to escape when something threatens human existence.
In this context, in which we imagine ourselves confined inside such physical limits, mountains and shelter may be considered places for isolating temporarily, where daily life rebuilds as a refuge, suitable for thinking about our existence and the meaning of the universe.
In theory, a mountain shelter would become an opportunity to rethink our presence in a world lost in a pandemic collapse, a chance to abandon the individualism of people, with their needs and desires, and set off for a new level of values, closer to the collective and universal levels.
Following those conceptual and imaginative parameters, the authors initially suggested a tridimensional configuration, a kinetic system project that should theoretically be able to provide the observer inside a mountain shelter an experience with a dynamic and circular motion of a universal structure, similar to a galaxy.
In this edition of L’Andart, they open the doors of the shelter to put up a kinetic system using water and light. Using a surface of moving water inside a circular tank, and a vortex in the middle, held by a hydraulic system and plastic tubes, aimed at producing a reflection on the opposite wall by projecting a colored light on that dynamic surface. The reflection shows an elliptical shape that looks like a galaxy, floating and moving continuously in space. A visual pleasure able to raise us to the greatness of the universe.

Sobre L’Andart 2021 (En Español)
La Bienal Internacional de Andorra nació en 2017 con el propósito de hacer llegar el arte al público general y explorar la relación entre arte y naturaleza, construyendo el paisaje contemporáneo a través de la creación artística.
Este año, el leit motiv de la Bienal gira en torno a la premisa “¿Qué pasaría si nos tuviéramos que confinar en la montaña?”. Una cuestión poliédrica que rescata la historia del escritor estadounidense Henry David Thoreau, quien en 1845 decidió instalarse en el bosque Walden Pond y vivir en una cabaña autoconstruida durante dos años, y la conecta con los cambios que la Covid-19 ha supuesto para la población a nivel mundial.
Más de 60 artistas de todo el mundo exponen su respuesta personal en un diálogo multidisciplinar entre el arte y la naturaleza. Conceptos como la solidaridad, la soledad y el aislamiento están muy presentes en L’Andart 21.
El objetivo es hacer partícipe al visitante de esta reflexión, ya sea poniendo en valor la naturaleza como fuente de salud y bienestar o con propuestas críticas sobre las problemáticas que la humanidad ocasiona en los ecosistemas naturales, así como abrir la mente hacia otras formas de confinamiento vinculadas a la naturaleza como alternativa a la concentración en las ciudades.
