Told as it was, as if by a confused kid, I could see Dash doing it. Then I got to think of the fact that Dash would probably get distracted and fill in the blanks for the parts she skimmed through without reading. After that we were all aboard the "reading Rainbow", like SmileAndError put it. Plus it's a fun challenge to rewrite into comedy.
I feel like Dash inserted herself into the story to make it less sad for herself. “Bubbles” really was kind of a tearjerker.. Okay I might be wrong on “kind of”
To people who (somehow) don't get it, her parents turn into Dash's is because Dash is just masking her story with Derpy and her parents. It's pretty much about Dash.

And don’t forget how it seems like only GOOD things happen in the story once RD is involved in it, seeing as how I could only assume she had a bad home life; It’s safe to guess she’s just trying to convince herself that she had an amazing childhood and is trying to suppress things.

The reason why you couldn't find the author's name is because they posted this AWESOME fic anonimously (spelled wrong. Bite me.) That is also kind of the reason why it is so famouse, that there is no true author to claim it. Fics finishing the story have been written by other authors (ie Learn to Fly (Derpy's Tale)), but no one has claimed the origional piece. The more you know! Also, awesome interpretation! It stuck kind of to the story line and then got 20% cooler! Very creative abd origional
