In Greek Hellenistic Koine, the language that the opening passage of gospel of John was written this passage is going as following.
"Εν αρχή ην ο Λόγος, και ο Λόγος ην προς τον Θεόν, και Θεός ην ο Λόγος. Ούτος ην εν αρχή προς τον Θεόν. πάντα δι' αυτού εγένετο, και χωρίς αυτού εγένετο ουδέ εν ό γέγονεν. (Written with latin characters: En archin in o logos, and o logos in pros ton Theon, and Theos in o Logos. Outos in en archi pros ton Theon, panta di aftou egeneto, ke choris aftou egeneto oude en o gegonen) which in English means "In the beginning was Logos and Logos was towards God and God was Logos. Logos was initially towards God. All happened through this ( logos towards God) and without this not a single thing happened of what already has been happened".
The word Logos though has a double meaning. It means word/to speak but it also means thoughts into the mind- Logic. Which makes this opening sentence having a completely different meaning. It doesn't speak about words and sounds but about thoughts that externalize as sounds that are godly and affect our reality.
You need to think in order to speak, your thoughts is God and God is thoughts, and the thoughts that become sound materialize into things that happen.
It is a very tricky sentence but Ancient Greek and Hellenistic Greek language is a very tricky and very compact and accurate language too.
