Manichaeism* Mandaeism is another religion ... scholars used to believe that Mani was raised by Mandeans although now we know Mani was raised by the Elchesaites who may have split off of a group from which the Mandeans also originated but which differed from Mandaeism for instance in their veneration of Jesus. In Mani's teaching Jesus, Buddah and Zoroaster are the chief messengers of God to mankind, but other lesser prophetic figures also existed like Enoch, Seth and even Lao Tsu (who may have been a previous incarnatio n of Mar Mani)

My personal view is that both Elchasaites and Mandaeans have ties to the Essenes.
