Ah, now THIS brings back some memories!!! I remember playing the ORIGINAL version of this game on a computer in computer lab at school back in the late 1980s.
First game I saw on PC back in 95' my older cousin played it. I was 5years old but never forget him going nuts because he lost his wagon crossing the River. I was young but always thought they should bring it back glad they did!
it took so long to play this game back in 1991 i think. you had to swap floppy disks as you went and there was never enough time in one computer class to finish it.

I played the original in elementary school, and tried out this newer version at the start of the year. Really had the same feel of the older one; I loved playing it!
“Our wagon is broken!” “I’m good at fixing wagons but my arm is broken…” “Nah you’re not important let’s heal the farmer” 😂 Good commentary though! I’d probably binge this soon
I agree. The sheer disappointment I have for him listening to chat on some of the choices is ridiculous. If I could I’d have bought the game and played myself 💀💀
Holy hell. I recently started having TCG Card Shop and Supermarket Simulator constantly recommended to me from this channel, and I couldn't figure out why. Figured it must just be because of Game Grumps Supermarket Simulator. I finally rediscovered this all this time later. This is why this channel gets recommended to me. Fun to know.
I was a library assistant in Jr high and I had a job to play Oregon trail and set aside all the copies were people wrote inappropriate things on tombstones
I was if it wasn’t for videos like this I would’ve never knew this new version existed! It’s definitely on my list of wants. Was not much of a fan of the first version, but played OT II all the time…and still do b/c it’s free online 🥰
I used to play the original 1985 version of Oregon Trail pretty much every day in my 8th grade computer class 😂.. 1997 and all we had were old school 1980s computers.they eventually brought in 4 Apple iMac computers and who ever got to the classroom the fastest would get an to play on one of the iMac computers The iMac was a nice break from the daily Oregon Trial expedition.then we were able to play Brickles and the art/paint.I actually got in a fight over one of the iMac computers one day.😂..it was that serious Computer class in the middle school I went to was literally 90% Oregon Trail and 10% Brickles and paint/art..we weren’t taught how to type,it was 100% games.literally the only thing I learned in this class was control, alt, delete 😂 this is an East Tennessee education for you.when I dropped out of high school and went to get my GED,I didn’t even know what an essay was when I started my GED study class.teacher gave us a subject and asked us to write an essay and I felt like an absolute idiot
Lol the investigation minigame was so entertaining to watch you try to solve I forgot it was the Oregon Trail game until it cut back to the wagon moving on
I busted out laughing when I saw your posting for this game and had to watch it 😂 I absolutely LOATHED this game back in 6th grade 😝 Everybody always died. It was the only game we were allowed to play and had to play after typing class. Thanks for an entertaining playthrough as usual 👍
You too?! I actually managed to get to the end. Just needed to set your speed to brisk but not the fastest and only hunt what you needed. Only lost like 2 people at rivers.
Listening to this and I heard someone say they played the original. I’m curious which original version. I first played this in the early 80s, all text based, no graphics. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone else who’s played that version and it would be awesome to hear. 😊
I don't know exactly release dates & names of the computers but I think I may have played it just like that but then again I kinda remember it having some graphics that was all green. I do clearly remember it being on a square floppy black or dark brown disc with a white label up top that said oregon trail. The computer had the external box to put the floppy into. I was born in 1980 so I would say it was around 88 or so when I played in school.
The only reference I have to this game is American Dad, when the family puts themselves in the game to escape Rodger. Only to be killed countless of times by Rodger himself playing the game lmao.
I grew up in the Portland (Oregon) area, so I wanted to share how to pronounce a word even my Mom butchered for awhile. Willamette is pronounced as: Will-lamb-ett. (Cholera- Call-er-rah) 😉
Yes! And the emphasis is on the second syllable. wih-LAM-it It’s funny how only people familiar with the area can pronounce it correctly 😂 (Oregonian here 👋)
I grew up in Vancouver (not Bc) and have been binging people playing this and screaming at the mispronounced Willamette Valleys and The Dalles for days now. My family just doesn't understand.
@@devrarobertson8179 Yes, Vancouver! Not really a comment on the player but more on the game itself... I had this gameplay on in the background while focusing on some other tasks, and at a certain point when I really brought my attention back around during that whole murder investigation, I had quite literally forgotten that I was supposed to be watching an Oregon Trail video. I think a lot of the filling out they did with this game is really cool, and obviously the backgrounds and stuff are gorgeous... but I'm not sure I understand what the entire point of that whole drawn out thing was or what it has to do with the overall journey.
Did you have problems with the music being copyrighted? My entire stream was blocked because of the background music 🙄 How did you get around that because I can definitely hear it in your background
Good Question, I think back when I did this stream I was Whitelisted by the Devs to make sure copyright didn't come up when they were not supposed to. I know that's not much of help, but it's been some time since I played. Sorry about that /:
Be honest, was it worth $30, In my opinion I feel like if they are just banking on Nostalgia alone, then it's not worth it, it should have been priced anywhere from $10-$20 maybe even cheaper
Doesn’t seem they are banking on nostalgia, seems there are much more added features to this game then any other Oregon trail. Still haven’t played enough to say weather it’s worth the $30
I love it but played the first game as a child so I love the game anyway. It is extremely in depth with quests, history, replay value, etc. I was so excited it was released. I played it on the apple arcade but won’t pay 6/ month endlessly for it since it was the only game I was interested in. Considering most games now are $70+ and expansions for games are around 20-30 I feel the cost is fair. It is still on the apple arcade if you wanted to try it out.
LOL imagine if when you decline Cora coming back in the party that the game says Game Over, You Won lol. As if kicking her out because of her poor mood would be a short cut.

You can farm and harvest things from the wild and the combat is not easy but not hard as well it is to say it's pretty well done. I think you would like it.
