- So if you saw the Akuma video, you now know I was invited over by Capcom to take a gander at Akuma and the upcoming Season 2 changes, and this video we got a sneak peek at some of these changes! The demise of Edmond Honda has been greatly exaggerated to say the least! Lets dig into some of these s2 changes and check out the other vids too why not

*****EDIT***** I open the video saying look at pinned comment, almost nobody looks at pinned comment. I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO LOOK AT THE MAJORITY OF THE CAST. Everyone except for a handful of characters was off limits!!!!
Alrighty so this video shorter than youd expect from this channel for this kinda vid, but Papa Capcom said it could only be 5 minutes long, so 5 minutes it is! We got other balance changes covered in other vids and also the Akuma hands on preview all linked in the video description. That said here are other changes im aware of that are not covered in the video!
Luke:
-stand HP now naturally combos into LP flash knuckle
-the DDT does appreciably more damage
im sure there's nerfs as well but yeah they buffed luke lol. There's also other things but they are basically just confirmations of stuff already covered in the last 2 patch videos.
Most of my time on site was checking Akuma and I only had a little more than 10 minutes to check the balance changes, so Capcom suggested a few to look at and then I burned my remaining time with Honda. Also many characters were FORBIDDEN to look at, yall know I woulda went in for Lily if I was allowed, but I was not unfortunately :( They very much want most of the patch to be a mystery, there's still a LOT we do not know, and will remain so until we get those full patch notes. Ill cover it all when the time comes but til then enjoy whats here!

These nerfs and buffs will just force people to be less cheesy with him, but the people who understand him like me will excel even more. I've played him since 1992 (yes I'm old lol),. I don't need a headbutt and/or butt slam to win with him.
Fundamental Honda getting buffed is a good thing. He's gonna be more than gimmicks in the proper hands
But the gimmicks were the best part.

Also I have never heard japanese Aki before playing the akuma build of the game so when she did her level 3 and just talked in a regular tone voice instead of screaming MY MAGNUM OPUS it was very disappointing :( Anyways Honda buffs rule!!!!!!!!!!
The JP voice actress is fantastic and puts a really interesting spin on A.K.I., but Fate Maya absolutely *killed* it with her performance. I will NEVER switch from English VA AKI.
I actually like the subtlety of the Japanese A.K.I voice actor.

Glad to see Honda hasn’t been ruined. His new routes look fun.
The issue with Honda is that he started ruined. Hopefully now they fixed him because before he was probably the worst designed character in the game( no I'm not saying he was the weakest because I know someones gonna say it).

@@joedatiusIt's not about relative character strength. It's about Honda having way too much "power budget" spent on headbutt and buttslam, and little else. It made him a boring perfect parry skill check. You can PP, you kill Honda. You can't, you probably lose.
@@Demonstormlord agreed. just bad design by shifting most of his power into gimmicky knowledge/skillchecks. but also, i feel like he is in a weird spot. headbutt from the right distances barely had any real counterplay, what made him even more stupid, but kinda less gimmicky. and to some extend he needs to be what he was, but just a little bit less stupid and more solid in exchange. so could just be perfect this time.
the thing is, those fullscreen reaching gapclosers like headbutt, spiral arrow, psychocrusher, blanka ball, etc will always give a touch of stupidity to characters, regardless of them being punishable or not. but honda is a little more about that by default. and this time it was too much of it, while there was no real functional core gameplan/toolkit around it.

Oh thank the sumo gods. I already play a very fundamentals style Honda so this news really made my day. I can finally rest easy until the patch drops.
Same here, man. I have been trying to make this character work in neutral for so long, and his main issue was the range on that 5MP. Now we even have our own version of 2MK-DR to go along with it.
Did a fat chuckle IRL when I saw the stomps easily combo into the OD Lariat.
Stomp will still probably be a niche move but at least there's a bigger payoff to be had (probably even stomps into OD Lariat into level 3? Would be pretty neat for toe-stomping to lead into that)

Honda's standing Medium Punch was really nasty in the corner...even more so now.
I think I am more a fundamentals-based Honda, not a gimmick type, so I am cautiously optimistic.

Wish theyd just release the patch notes and i hope theres a lot more than what people have been saying, if we waited a whole year for some frame data and minor changes, no changes to damage values and drive rush then thats incredibly wack.
we already know that there is alot more then what we've been shown and Capcom has said before that every character in the game is being touched on. also why would any developer release patch notes before they even go into effect? just be patient. never heard in my life a dev releasing patch notes before they where even finalized

I like Honda buff/nerfs, and you are very right. It nerfs the scrubby Hondas who rely too much on buttslam and headbutt, but it buffs traditional disciplined Hondas

Just realized that they basically nerfed buttslam on block but buffed it on hit. It's a better move now. Even on block, it looks like good spacing to threaten with his new 5MP.
Exactly this! When I first heard the news of the pushback on block for buttslam but then also heard the 5MP has more range, I immediately thought, this is gonna be a whiff punish setup! If the opponent presses a button right after blocking buttslam, 5MP is gonna be an EASY punish.

If you have the sumo buff maybe after a blocked butt slam the opponant will try walk backwards. Using cr hp into hands Honda could catch them as they're walking back.

These changes barely move the needle with Zangief. They don't really address any of his underlying issues and are just more uses for moves that are super inconsistent and hard to route into.
What good is stomp being cancelable on the 2nd hit when its just hard to use stomp in the first place? Its super short range and you don't get much off it even now that its cancelable. You are always better off going for another move over stomp in situations where you can actually physically land stomp and this doesn't change that.
The C.HP changes are only on punish counter and C.HP already has difficulty anti airing to begin with. Its problem was mainly that it was a shit anti air and its still a shit anti air its just if you manage to not trade or outright lose to a button you get some extra damage. Like this isn't a change that does anything meaningful for gief.
As a gief man this is just super depressing to read because if these are the best changes they had to show off then hes going to be in a worst spot than he already is because everyone else is getting more meaningful changes.

To anyone wishing to see more of the patch. Check out Sajam's VOD for the stream he did. He has an hours footage and no time limit due to it being a stream so he talks through a few more buffs. But still not everything obvs.

That was a speedrun if I ever saw one. As always good info and straight to the point.
I'm not a Honda player but I wad afraid they were gonna butcher the character but it seems they nerfed the gimmicks and improved him overall as a character. I might actually try him out now. Also, the buffs to grapplera might make me give them a shot again. My main problem was that outside of the grabs, they had to do ao much to get damage in comparison to others chars. These new combo routes seem like a good change for them and I'll defined check out Manon again

Thank you a ton for the info end the vreat news about Honda! I am fundamentally pleased by the changes and to be honest, i didn't like him going to to a mile distance if headbutt misses, I wanted to be a bit closer.
But butt slam does have still a huge hurtbox that allows opponents to beat it easily even with a normal anti-air and you can grab OD Headbutt?

man you weren't kidding about rushing. EXCELLENT re manon's CA now scaling w her medal count. always thought that should have been the case. she always doesn't have much in terms of tools so at least this would make her more scary.
You could definitely charge after dash clk clp before but the change to hkd is very nice. These changes definitely moving him towards mid range and pressure as opposed to the headbutt/slam minigame he was forced into before

I play Manon and Aki and really happy with these small buffs :)
Zangief stomps getting buffed is a welcome one but I think it's still gonna be really awkward to input. I'm kind of still hoping they change that and Honda's clap to something a little easier. I know Modern controls could possibly make finding that new method a bit of an issue, but it's still such a clunky input for such quick, simple moves that are difficult for seemingly any control method except maybe a seasoned leverless user.
(for "V-Skill inspired" self-buffs like Denjin, Sumo Spirit, and Jamie drinks the input makes more sense, so that you don't do them on accident since you're wide open until the self-buff is finished. Tensho Kicks also seems to fit that input, cus it's like a mini DP. Spray cans and Blanka-chan are pretty much exclusively used to set up oki or before a corner stun combo, so there's no awkward fumbling around mid-combo to get those out.)
