yeah he starts with a normal/ghost with only 1 weakness (and 3 immunities like @ultimatewauigi5907 said), and then 2 matches later when EDM picks dark/ghost, which also only has 1 weakness, nick uses that one weakness lol
Ah yes, my favorite starter type....ELECTRIC. Nick is truly living his Ash Ketchum storyline. Here's some Mewtwo lore to educate the masses: The original theatrical cut of Pokémon The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back is only 75 minutes long, but another version was created, which became the base for the English dub. This version, once known as the "kanzenban" version, featured 10 extra minutes of footage detailing Mewtwo's past. This extra footage was eventually brought over as "The Uncut Story of Mewtwo's Origin," which was available as a DVD special feature on home video releases. The short shows Dr. Fuji recovering the Mew fossil and bringing it back to his lab. There, a young Mewtwo is incubated in a tube alongside other clones that Dr. Fuji had been working on-, a Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur, as well as a human child named Amber. The clones are able to communicate telepathically with each other, and so they begin to explain concepts to Mewtwo as Amber shares some of her memories. However, the other clones are unstable; each disappears, one at a time, until only Amber is left. She tells Mewtwo not to be sad, because it's still alive, and being alive is wonderful, before vanishing into nothing. Mewtwo's memories of all of this are wiped, but a vague recollection of Amber remains. The backstory reveals why Mewtwo already had clones of Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise...he created them based on his first friends, whom he could barely remember
I've always thought about this, like if someone like bowser was it by water moves, maybe his attacks wouldn't work as well, but I never really thought about someone actually making it a thing. Also, nick and EDM make the best videos together.
4:36. I like to think that the reason Fighting is super-effective against Steel is because if the metal is thin enough you can dent it (like a can), and if you punch/kick it hard enough you can knock a mechanical part that's inside loose. But then again, by that logic, if you hit a Steel-Type with any move of any type hard enough it could break something inside so what do I know.
I'm inclined to believe that Fighting represents more of the fictional tropes of kung-fu/martial arts powers where smashing rocks and bending steel with bare hands is par for the course. It's essentially its own form of magic at that point.
@@0ceanking Or maybe redirecting attacks from enemies with metal weapons? Like the Pawniard and Honedge evolution chains? I guess it's a case of perspective (Or even all of the above) but I definitely agree with your point.
@@KayzIdeas oh yeah definitely. Blade catching or deflecting with no weapons of one's own is definitely up there in popular kung-fu/martial arts fantasy.
Steel is weak to Fighting because Fighting was basically unusable in gen 1 The main purpose of Dark and Steel were to balance gen 1's type chart, with everything else being secondary. Same with Fairy in gen 6. While there are a few interactions that are based on logic, most are just based on balance
@@KayzIdeas its bc steel, ice, and rock materials are the most common things to test ur strength on (ex. breaking a brick/large block of ice in half, bending a steel bar, etc.)
1:42 He sounded exactly like Ash for one second lmao. Actually, he wanted to act like Ash the entire time, saying the type advantage doesn't matter lol.
4:45 Fighting is strong agaisnt steel because of old mythos and current cartoons about people being strong enough to bend metal, same reason why it is super effective agaisnt ice and rock
"I'll be one billion percent honest, I did not mean that" - Nick 2023....(tear) they grow up so fast. So Steel is weak to Fighting because martial artists, body builders, etc. can bend steel. Steel may be defense, but Fighting is all about attack. Steel is weak to Fire because steel conducts heat very well since it's of course a metal and can be melted. Dark is immune to Psychic because Dark alongside Steel were introduced in Gen II to balance against Psychic (and Psychic is weak to Dark because of phobia...afraid of the dark). However, if a Pokémon has the move Miracle Eye, this immunity goes away. But of course, this is Smash Bros, so no Miracle Eye. Fighting is weak to Fairy because of both balance and folklore. Violence just doesn’t work on the fey, traditionally. If you try to fight them, they will just make a fool of you. A brute just wouldn't want to harm a cute little fairy. Fighting is weak to Psychic because quite simply, brains over brawn! And Bug is weak to Rock because while you do find bugs under rocks sometimes, rocks can still smash bugs with ease.
One thing you didn't add is STAB. In Pokemon, when they do a move that is the same type as them, for example when Pikachu uses an electric type move, the move gets a 1.5 damage buff. It stands for Same Type Attack Bonus.
As a pokemon nerd I'd love to play smash like this, as a smash player it looks very frustrating and fun at the same time, so it doesn't change that much from the original game
Man we really gotta see some more from this mod! It certainly sounds like a real lot of work was put on it so it would be a waste for it not to make occasional appearances!
They should do a follow up video where they do smash down so they can build "Pokemon" teams. I could also imagine putting together an "elite 4 run" solo mode where you get 4 cpus to have a team of each of the elite 4 types from the games (potentially randomized) and having to fight each of them, keeping stock losses between matches. Lot of potential for content, that's all I'm saying

On characters like roy and pyra, it’s actually better- they’re both fire/steel, and have a lot of steel moves. Steel is 2x on fairy, but double weak on steel/fire
8:46 Why rock fighting and not ghost dragon? I mean I get that fossils equal rock sure, but there's alot of characterization with Byleth that relates to Ghost and Dragons.
