Sixto Rodriguez is my hero. A man who is a superstar in South Africa, highly educated and one of the greatest songwriters ever but still he lives the life of a blue-collar worker and has no interest in material things. Some might call him poor but in reality he is probably richer than most of us.
Thank you Sixto, thank you for being the greatest role model of all, thank you for being a true hero.

I grew up in South Africa in the '70's and I can still clearly remember listening to Cold Fact over and over and over again! We all knew all the words of all the songs on the album. I din't know until the documentary came out that he wasn't famous or even recognized in America or Europe. I'm so grateful for the memories and experiences I had listening to his music that very few people outside SA had. I now know he was also famous in Australia and NZ at the time too. RIP, Sixto! And thanks for the memories that have lasted a lifetime!

It is such a great story. I’m 🇨🇦, so I had never heard of Rodriguez until I was persuaded (reluctantly, because I never watch movies) to watch the movie about six years ago. From the moment that movie ended, I was hooked. I’ve seen it over and over, and we have his CDs. They were not easy to get. He finally got the recognition that he deserved. He lived every artist’s dream. (I’m an artist, so I know.) You are so lucky to have grown up with his music.

I walked into a record store years ago (which unfortunately is a bank now, due to the rapacious development going on in Seattle)- and it was playing Sixto. I just stopped because I was overwhelmed by his voice, lyrics, music. I walked up to the desk and asked "who is this musician that you are playing'?" He said Rodriguez.. Not surprisingly, I said I had never heard of him. I asked for a CD, and he said that they only had the one that they were playing. I listened and waited until it was over. I handed over my cash and bought the CD. Went home, played it almost 50 times!! Then when Rodriguez played at the Triple Door, I was there. I was so moved by his performance. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. There are just a few truly unique musicians....and he was one of them. Rest in peace and power. And the most sincerest condolences to the Rodriguez family and community. His music will live on...............

Fabulous Rodriguez... South Africans absolutely loved his album during the 80's. Bought the album. Covered some of his amazing songs at my gigs. What a brilliant artist. I can barely listen to the ra ra music that is out in the market these days. So many superb musical artists of great integrity like him never make it into the public arena. What a great loss. So happy 2 South African producers seized Rodrigues from total obscurity and produced a film about him. He is truely amazing. Authentic.

I think the documentary speaks volumes about the character of the man and is a glowing testament to the pure, undiluted and immensely entertaining talent that Sixto possesses. Yes of course it is a shame that it has taken such a protracted period of time for him to be brought to the attention of the world but we should all count ourselves lucky that the film makers passion for storytelling has yielded such rewards. Thank you for the film and for the enduring spirit that blossoms in the music.

I was baptised into the cold waters of this man's life last night. Knowing nothing of his story I was shown "Searching for Sugar Man" after dinner. The Claret couldn't be as intoxicationg as the scope of this man's journey. It is one of the most sweetly tragic yet uplifitng stories I've ever witnessed. The filmakers made the responsible choice to focus on the phoenix and not the fire which consumed it. I'd still like to find out where this man's royalties are. The music biz eats it's offspring!
