I'm Italian. I was 14 and I stayed up late at night to watch the 2005 VMA's live (they started at about 1-2 a.m.). I remember that MTV Italy used to play Boulevard of Broken Dreams all the time back in 2005. I miss early 2000's music and music awards.
Wow. I would actually watch this award show, the music this year across all genres was 🔥 rock, pop, Rap, Latin, R&B? Every genre was sending their best in 2005.
I will always love early 2000s MTV for constantly showing different genres. In like 2001-2003 I was exposed to metal, alternative, R&B, house, hip-hop, pop, etc. a missy Elliott video would be followed by the white stripes followed by daft punk l followed by Britney. It was an awesome time for music lovers.
I've seen this online multiple times, and I've always wondered who came up with it. She wasn't: It was Los Lobos, who performed "La Bamba" at the 1987 VMAs.
Very surprised We Belong Together won nothing. The 2000s Mariah Carey was so different from 1990s Mariah. She had so much passion and growth musically, on her own terms.
i look forward to your videos every thursday morning mister hot mess! i'm sure the theme being WATER was planned months and months in advance, but looking back now it definitely seemed a little tone deaf considering the natural disaster occurring right outside those walls 🌀🌊💦
I can't wait for 2014 VMAs, you did music video awards but the 2014 vma was the first year I watched and remember it so well. But this was such an iconic year for music honestly. Big agree for bunny ears because I have tons of childhood pictures full of them, I want my adulthood pictures full of them too (I think I have one or 2 where friends did bunny ears) Edit: it was the 2014 Grammys not VMAs
To be honest, as a Mexican I actually didn't understand what you said just before your apology for not speaking Spanish, but all those times you said La Tortura were cute.
The Wikipedia article is worded a bit confusingly (so I get why you interpreted it as such), but it wasn't parts of the pre-show that got cancelled -- at least as far as we viewers know. It was the various activities (e.g., outdoor parties) that happened during VMA week that had to be cancelled due to the rain. MTV lucked out by moving the VMAs from Thursday to Sunday the year before, because all their VMA-related events on Thursday (and Friday) got rained out in 2005.
I remember missing the live airing of this VMAs, because I was in Florida coincidentally for my cousin's wedding. My cousin's honeymoon in South Florida was ruined because of the hurricane, and my family and I flew back late Sunday. I live in Houston, and we basically saw Hurricane Katrina right outside our plane window. We landed very late, and the hurricane touched down the next morning. Crazy to see what happened all in retrospect. I remember watching this on a re-airing later that week.
Watching this on the day the host is arrested in a 'freak-off' RICO case really makes for, in hindsight, a cringey viewing experience; in just regular 2005 sight, I imagine it was cringey, too, particularly if your TV was being washed away by drainage from Diddy's entrance pool. MTV!
I always love when you acknowledge Apl and Tabbo with Black Eyed Peas, they're both really cool and nice guys and people ignore them. Tabbo was always my fave out of the group c:
I love how he starts every video by saying “do you remember the 1999 awards show” like sir half of your audience were born in 2003 😂. Love the videos, keep them coming
IMO Mariah’s first 4 eras didn’t have the most exciting videos but starting with Honey on words her videos become so much fun might of had something to do with divorcing Tommy .
I love all your videos. This shit is taking me!! I am on the floor rolling. Hollering. Screaming. "The emphasis on child" 😂😂😂 the water. There's so much
You forgot about the Fat Joe/G-Unit beef that happened during the show. Before Fat Joe announced the winner, he thanked Miami P.D. for police protection courtesy of G-Unit. You can hear them yelling out "Fat Joe is a pussy". After 50 Cent's performance, he was calling Joe a pussy on the mic.
Beyoncé is inspired by Shakira's performance intro in "la tortura" with the alarm sound for her song "Ring the alarm" and the moan to invite her and recreate "beautiful Liar"

MTV with a water theme during a deadly hurricane right outside the building feels wayyy too surreal

OMG I came to the comments to say that same thing!!! I loved it!!
