- On the second day of filming this episode, I saw two guys sitting on a bench and asked them if they wanted to be a part of my film project. I assumed they were friends but a few minutes into our conversation I found out they were actually strangers and hadn't even talked until I approached them. I said- "you guys are friends right?" The one on the right said "haha oh no.. we've never met." Then the guy on the left turned to him and said, "what's up man, my name is Troy.." ... "I'm Jesus, nice to meet you." I asked both of them the question and Troy went first. He talked about how he struggled to tell his parents he loved them.. he ended up calling his mom on the spot and nervously struggled to get the words out. Off camera I asked him why he was struggling and he told me that he thinks it's because him and his friends (and his parents) don't usually communicate when it comes to affection and struggles they are going through. Then Jesus, went. He spoke about the last time he told his mom he loved her which was a few days before she passed away from cancer. Even though I could tell there was a lot of pain behind his words, he kept it together while answering. I asked him how he was able to talk about it so comfortably.. he said it was because him and his friends ALWAYS talk about how they are feeling.. that sharing their struggles is a normal conversation. I walked away from the bench and continued filming.. for the next hour, every time I looked over at the bench I saw them in deep conversation. This was honestly my favorite moment of filming so far. To me it showed what a difference talking about our struggles can make... and how close we are to feeling better about our struggles if we simply open the conversation. Troy and Jesus lived completely different lives and had completely different answers... and I think they both ended up on that bench because they were meant to meet and I was lucky enough to be there when they did. Troy and and Jesus are the last two strangers in this episode. I want to thank them again and everyone who is kind enough to stop and talk to me. I feel so lucky :]

I wish I was able to have that blank slate again. Now I just compare everyone to my first love. It's made me extremely picky in what I look for in someone. I'm right there with you 💙
Urgh - it’s so hard finding someone who makes you feel like that... you compare everyone in the future with them 😞😞
Honestly the main reason I'm still alive is the hope I someday experience it. To have the love you wish existed. To feel the things you dream about. I guess the possibility of it is what's making it so desirable. I'd rather stay and find out, instead of potentially missing out on something beautiful. I truly hope both me and you find it. 💙

That has me wondering - do people love the stars? Like, does saying that you love someone more than all the stars in the galaxy really set the bar high?
It's not the word 'I love you' that hits hard, it's the emotions that lead you to say it. The emotions that come with it.
Right? Saying the words "I love you" are empty is bullshit to me, you'll definitely know if someone really means it
I feel like that girl at 7:18 is kind of a disappointed romantic, but I wish she finds that love that she thinks might not exist. I wish I could give her a big hug

I wasn’t asked but my first “ I love you” was when I was 7. I was about to be sent to foster care but then my grandpa showed up and took me home with him. After a few weeks, I had started to settle down and grandpa and I where eating chicken nuggets and I told him I loved him. Being a grouchy old man who never smiled, I saw a grin under his mustache and from then on I was his shadow and he raised me from then on.
Hey. You seem to be a really special person. I hope you know that. I wish you all the best!
Oh that's so sweet. Glad you have such a granddad :)

I don’t cry at much but that really got to me 💔
I've noticed that happening in Australia, too. People that look Asian get avoided quite a lot, even when they don't look one bit Chinese! Filipinos, for example, look nothing like the Chinese.
Also, the virus may have come from China, but at this point China barely has any cases. If anything, you'd have to avoid Americans now thanks to Trump!
that really got to me
When the guy started talking about how he told his mother he loved her on her deathbed it really resonated with me and made me tear up because I said the exact same thing to my grandmother (who I was extremely close with) on her deathbed less than a year ago - it’s tough
Be happy that you were able to say it, some of us are too shy or too stupid to break that bareer. When my grandma was about to pass away I could only tell her "Perdon abue" (I'm sorry grandma) and I started sobbing and crying, she conforted me... some days after that she passed away. from a spanish speaker perspective i totally understand what she is trying to say but cant express, “Te amo”’ that has a deeper meaning than “I love you” maybe that was where she was coming from. “i love you” feel weak/inadequate compare to “Te amo” in my experience.
Dude that girl in the rain coat. When she started crying I was hoping she didn’t get hurt. I just wanted to give her a huge and was thinking “I swear to god if this doesn’t end well” and then the guy stepped out and I threw up my hands and said out loud “thank god!”

“I love you is empty” .. that is very true for this generation
That’s one of the reasons I didn’t like to say it back to people I played water polo with. They would tell me they love me, then talk to other people and not really talk to me. I could tell they didn’t mean it, but I still said it back in case they needed to hear it. I don’t say it as often now though, and I think that’s a good thing.
No it's not empty it's just not said to right people sometimes
Mahi Upadhyay That may be true for some people, but I do feel that for this generation, people say it so much that we don’t really believe we love each other.
Peopel nowadays just say i love u to anything
I for myself never told someone that i love him, because when i find someone in the future i like more than just a friend, i want it to mean something. It will not be easy for me to tell it someone, but when i do, it will be a very special moment in my life.

I didn’t know he would be coming back to school that day. So, I walk into my first hour, one of the classes we get to go to together, and I see him sitting at his desk. I remember I started crying. But the guy said I think I love you too that's a big bruh moment
me too. I felt her
When I was in middle school, there was a girl that I met in 6th grade. We talked to each other only through one activity in one class, and we clicked. From that day on, our friendship grew so much and she was everything to me. First day of 8th grade, I finally built the courage to walk up to her and tell her that I loved her. The greatest thing about that type of love, was that it wasn’t because we were in a relationship, it just felt amazing to always know that to one person, you mattered so much. And from that day on, every night and every morning we told each other that we loved each other because it was comforting and real. There wasn’t pressure in doing everything right. It was just genuine compassion for one another.
Unfortunately my freshman year of high school, we had a falling out. We completely parted ways. And it was because of a very poor mistake that I made. It was a big learning curve for me, but I understood what genuine love was, and understood that if I ever wanted that love again from anyone, I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize that love.
The Asian mom didn’t say I love you back, but she did at the same time “I’ll take care of you, I’ll make sure you’re fed, and all you have to do is go back to school” but it’s so sad and messed up that people thought she had corrona virus and avoided her☹️
She did say it back

yes, real lump in your throat stuff 😢
What's sadder is what China did to the Muslims(minority)? Check it out on Google if you want
Btw that's minor thing
China's shitty to all sort of minorities, not just muslims
And honestly muslims do nth about it either way, they just complain.
The whole point of those videos is to show how every person has their own story and struggle
And that IT MATTERS
not what's "sadder" or worse
Also before you victimize muslims, read about what muslims do to minorities, they were/still are pretty horrible to minorities in their contries (like ex-muslims, jews and christans etc)
It's not about china or muslims or any religion or race, really..
It's about a "stroger" power taking control or removing the "weaker" one for their own benefit
So stop victimizing yourself and grow up.
If you feel bad about sth, go help out not complain on the internet and belittle people's struggle because "omg someone has it worse"
Ik and he was apologising for nothing really over and over its sad he seemed rly nice and ppl said she has the coronavirus that's sad aswell

Me, a forever alone: ive never met this person in my life.
7:20 I believe what she’s trying to say is that people say “I love you” too slightly. they say I love you too much to random things and overtime it looses its true meaning, and it starts to feel “empty” and she wants to say something different that really shows and proves the true meaning of love without actually saying “I love you”.
Yeah, that's what she's trying to explain 👌
"I love you" should be only in whispering because it's so sacred.( ・ω・)=つ≡つ
Also in Spanish the expression "I love you" is "Te quiero", which can be literally translated to "I want you". Far from something that can be said to the really special one in a special moment.
I tell people that I love them all the time. But every time I do, although just as friends, I genuinely mean it. The people in my life mean the absolute world to me, and I would be shattered if any single one of them was hurt. God has blessed me so much.

She seems to be saying that there are more ways to express love than to say I love you. There are more descriptive words and actions that would hold more weight
@@MarileR
Te quiero can also be "I care about you"
I'm just saying this so it doesn't sound so cold lmao
I’m just bawling my eyes out. I’m so happy my mom and i are getting along a bit better. I tell her i love her every day
Awww ❤
Bawling my eyes out over here, but in a cool way. I love your videos because they make me love humans instead of dislike. Kindness makes such a difference. I love seeing people really go deep within themselves when you ask questions, I love how genuine they are in offering their truth as authentically as possible even knowing it’s on film. I love the value ppl get from being heard. Ps that girl with the little braids is absolutely stunning, looks wise but she has a gentle way about her and a magnetic charisma even through a screen I think she is beautiful inside and out.
Son - "I love you Mom"
Mom - "You say I love you but you don't listen to me !"
That is one Asian mom right there. I hope she's all well right now ❤
Exactly bro 😅
LMAOO my mom does it too but i’m north-African :)
“i don’t tolerate him, i love him.” aweee
The curly-headed kid talking about his mom... damn
It would be interesting to ask the question of “when was the first time you told someone you hated them?” You could further the prompt by asking if they meant it then, and do they still mean it- why or why not?”
I absolutely love your channel and your ability to humanize strangers; since watching your videos I am constantly aware or those around me, and in a way your pieces have helped me to become more empathetic.
I hope you see this some day, your art has changed who I am for the better.
Thank you! Looking forward to more uploads, and please never stop!
“I love you”

This took me out lmao
Asian American here. The way the asian guy and his mom talked about everything, her lecture, his trying to express his love, her talking about herself, him trying to find himself, her speaking her native tongue, him speaking a westernized, americanized version of it; it all accurately depicts the reality of Asian American culture. (I'll add that I'm a humanist who happens to be embodying the life of an Asian American woman).
@Wendy Van it’s quite straight-forward and to the point. Lolz.

Your videos always make me look inside myself. You always manage to get to the things in life that are the most important and real. You have insight girl!!!
I spent the last 3 hours watching this channel, and I feel am ok with my self I don't know how but to see all these people expressing themselves makes me remember a lot of things that happened in my life it makes me wanna be more open to people and confident about my self ..so thanks thoraya
Ya Asian moms...you tell them "I love you" and they start scolding you about stuff lol
Just like black parents
And hispanic parents
And parents
ikr, thats why nobody in my family says the words "i love you" ever 😅
Yeah, can relate. But try crying on their lap, you’ll feel like you’re in the safest place ever.
I told my girlfriend I loved her and when she said it back for the first time, it felt like all the stuff that I hated about myself slowly filled up with memories of her and I just forgot how much I hated myself.
I love this
wow
Awww I love that
i want this kind of love in my life, fuck.

@@2Serus yes! :) tears of love are always cherished!
Coming from an Est-European country, I can relate. My mom is the same, there is always a tabou when it comes to saying your family relatives you love them, so when you find the courage in your adult life to say it but your mom talks about anything else like their last experience in life, you know it's a way for them say it back to you in their own way ❤️ I don't know why it's like that but I know deep down that it's a way to say I love you back
@@lalitacruz737 Yes, it seems we all have a different love language. Takes an expert (or someone who's patient) to carefully decode them all :) I'm slowly learning; patience and understanding helps :)
@@lalitacruz737 That's really weird to someone who's not used to it lol xD I would be hurt if my parent's didn't say it back! I'm glad you know that you're loved even if it's not communicated verbatim :) I guess in a way that's kinda powerful, like you don't need the words cause you already know they love you. Cause it's the feeling they leave you with after interacting with them. It's beautiful.
The asian guy broke my heart. I want to give him a long hug
man we need to talk about how he had to learn first hand from his mom she just suffered racism. it seems ppl can’t give others a break for once. I know how is it to be a minority and how it’s like a part of our day but this just hits hard. this guy was in the middle of an emotional moment, he was sharing something very important and I assume as a man he doesn’t even use to check on his mom so very often as he should. and what’s the chance in the very same moment he calls her he’s remembered there are ppl that are hating on his beloved one for her race.
The first two couples are so beautiful 😭💜 you can really feel the love!💜
I just found this channel and watched this vid today. How precious. At a time when forces are trying to tear society apart at the seams, it is plain we are all just folk. Everyone wants to be loved.
