Alternatively... as you saw with Anna & Elsa, some cultures instead incorporated the first name of a person's father into their last name. For Anna & Elsa, your instincts are correct and it would be either Agnarsdottir or Agnarsdatter (within my personal Norwegian family tree, I seem to see "-dottir" more commonly but, I believe either could happen). And if Anna and Elsa had brothers, it would Agnarssen or Agnarsson, for them. Fairly self-explanatory and very literal (Agnar's daughters and Agnar's sons). So, yeah... in Merida's case, I believe it is specifically mentioned that Dunbroch is her clan name but, this thinking would also work for someone like Ariel. Her actual full name would be Princess Ariel of Atlantica (with "of Atlantica" basically serving the same purpose as a last name). That's why the line in "Frozen" exists with Anna saying that Hans' last name is "of the Southern Isles". It's purposely played as a bit of a joke but, that is likely what his "last name" would actually be.
I would love to see a final follow up featuring Asha and Raya, from “Wish” and “Raya and the Last Dragon”. Other characters you could use to fill out the roster could be Mirabel from “Encanto”, Kida from “Atlantis: the Lost Empire” and Esmeralda from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”
I got excited when Merida was introduced because I is scottish & I really wanted a scottish princess, but as always in media they seem to make us all ginger, wear kilts & sometimes bagpipes lmao. I hope more counties continue to get a princess that represents them well :D
