This is the first time I was introduced to these and it really makes me wanna try them! I mean, it’s deep fried dough that’s been dunked in syrup! I think the only improvement would be letting it sit and soak up the syrup!
I'm from India and when Barry first said malupa i got all eager to know what this new thing was and then i realised he was struggling to say malpua.. and i got all excited about him sort of making an indian dish
Curveball suggestion: Before using any one ingredient, each guy has to answer a question relating to the channel, food, etc. but if he gets it wrong, he cannot use that particular ingredient. I am not mean so the questions must be easy to medium level of difficulty but each question has time limit of 10 sec. One of the questions has to be National Donut Day.
Another suggestion: Tell the guys that there is a curveball but they cannot know what it is. If they violate that curveball rule, their dishes automatically lose. The curveball is that there is no curveball.

I have a small bit of constructive criticism... Please don't get me wrong, ultimate battles are amazing, my favorite format on your channel and the curveballs are so funny but my small concern is that I don't like when the food gets worse by the consequences of the curveball (I like when the guys feel a little discomfort, like the last one with the "everyone needs someone else to use electric devices", that was hilarious) but I you just cut there time in half or say for example they are no longer allowed to use the stove or something, that could ruin the whole dish and I really like recreating dishes by you guys but I can't really when it completely fails, just a tip for the future. Please don't completely destroy me other commentator...
I mean, sure it makes it difficult to recreate the recipes from the video alone, but seeing as the recipes are already written and tested by James, and links are provided, I think its funny to watch the really disruptive curveballs while still getting good recipes.

Was really scared when Barry decided to do one of my favorite desserts (what with his amazing pronunciation) malpua, but he eventually got the pronunciation right and the recipe was spot on(don't worry about the shape, you just need practice). Whew! Well done!
I love how close this season is, you can easily tell the lads have improved their skills and becoming more adventurous with their dishes. Been watching since 2011and watching sorted has improved my skill
That'd be interesting in a way to look at what the original dish was MEANT to be vs what the new chef on it made it to be. I imagine Jamie would end up with bacon in it regardless of the original cut...
I think it’d be a lot better and more fair if they had the curveball before the match even started so they don’t put all the effort into someone else’s dish

Mike was most affected by the curveball but still managed to pull out a dish that sounded great, looked absolutely beautiful, and had me salivating to try. I'd totally be down to eat Jamie's or Barry's dishes as well, but Mike's win was very well deserved.
hi! i try to not be negative in the comments because i LOVE SORTED but only posting this because the pop-up in the video asked for opinion on curveballs specifically - I personally don't love them! I think the boys mess with each other enough as-is, enough to keep it funny and entertaining and tricky, but the curveballs add an unnecessary complication that doesn't necessarily have a cooking context and feel gimmicky, and make it less about the actual cooking. In mind like it's like a Masterchef type of show vs Cutthroat Kitchen, & I personally way prefer the former. Just my thought, though!
Blueberry pancakes are a classic and so is a lemon and sugar topping. There's nothing novel about Mike's dish, it's just a straight up level up. Better citrus and japanese "hot cake" style pancakes to hold the maximum amount of syrup and flavour.
During the start of the battle, I thought Mike's will be overshadowed by the two. But towards the end of the battle as they were tasting it, I knew he'd won. He nailed the 'fluffy' part which usually deflates as the minutes go on. I personally tried making pancakes that way and they don't stay as fluffy as that, but they taste effin' good. Great job guys! When's the next hilarious and messy pass it on? That's my favorite segment!
I love malpua. It's kind of syrup-y and like a pancake because it's very soft and bouncy in the middle yet has a bit hard, dark and crispy edges. I used to have so many as a kid and I never thought a British person would know about this.
At 3:55 correct me if I'm wrong but would it not be more beneficial for Mike to use self-raising flour here if he wants air and lightness in his batter? Maybe I misunderstand what self-raising flour does :/
Barry, you're awesome! Making malpuas is a huge feat and you did good. They're traditionally served with rabri (thick condensed milk) though, but I feel that would've been too sweet for you guys

The recipe removal curve ball made me sad. I would have started adding the hot chili powder just to make sure that Ben and James would be as miserable as they made me. The politeness curve ball was actually a good idea. It made everyone treat each other respectfully.

Pro tip for malpuas- traditionally they're deep fried but we do a shallow fry at home. About an inch of ghee in a pan and they stay round look like pancakes and soak up less fat!
First curveball where it may have been unfair, to plan everything out given 90 minutes and be told halfway through that it's actually 70 min only takes away from the final product

Barry, you're awesome! Making malpuas is a huge feat and you did good. They're traditionally served with rabri (thick condensed milk) though, but I feel that would've been too sweet for you guys

The recipe removal curve ball made me sad. I would have started adding the hot chili powder just to make sure that Ben and James would be as miserable as they made me.

WOAH - 'malpua' ! I did not know people knew about malpuas!!! My grandmother made some amazing ones back in Calcutta (India)! It's very rare to find them in London - this is AMAZING!!! Thank you!

Pro tip for malpuas- traditionally they're deep fried but we do a shallow fry at home. About an inch of ghee in a pan and they stay round look like pancakes and soak up less fat!
First curveball where it may have been unfair, to plan everything out given 90 minutes and be told halfway through that it's actually 70 min only takes away from the final product
To be fair.. 90 minutes to make pancakes is a bit too much time.
Good job, Barry! Malpua is one of my favorite desserts, and for a non-Indian to have heard of malpua and then make it is impressive. And, like all the other comments said, rabdi (super condensed milk) would be a good accompaniment.
