Dont forget to let me know what lovely topics you're having issues with for me to give you... some... very... sarcastic... facetious... Scottish advice... xD
What do I do when my neighbors sing loud bad kayoke next to my bedroom when I'm trying to sleep after a hard day at work? When its late at night. And what do I do when people won't stop lighting fireworks in my neighborhood and scaring my 2 dogs? Police won't do anything either after they been called.
A lad was proudly told the new vicar that he was getting married in his kilt and full-dress sporran. The vicar asked "What's the tartan?" The lad replied, "Oh she'll be wearin' a white dress." That joke kills me every time.
MacGregor and Campbell. I have also designed about 60 tartans, including one as an homage to Pink Floyd's most successful album 'The Dark Side of the Moon'. After posting the finished prototype to my facebook page, I realized that it could also be considered a pride tartan. It is aptly titled: 'Spectrum, a Darker Side'. It will not be registered in the Scottish Registry of Tartans.
Black Watch tartan is one of my favorites. Over the years, since we don't often wear kilts here in the US, I have had two or three flannel shirts in black watch and a couple in Royal Stewart also. Did you know that is how you make a chameleon explode, by setting him down on a tartan? No chameleons were actually harmed in the making of this comment!
I'm a Henderson I like the Green in my Tartan ....by the by..I love how you roll your R's and I'm learning the Scottish accent listening to you and its interesting you have Scottish accent and are more Irish....I can hear your Irish long pronunciation of words as you speak .
Wow, brilliant surprised by comment! Indeed spot on with Scottish Snodgrass Sir name as my family name! Only have sample of clan fabric and know other clans "we" claimed like Irvine from recent research highlanders history from 1200s!! Worked briefly in London, had one trip with co-workers driving too in Scotland, had not discovered family history yet then!! Indeed I Want to go back!!!
My family (parents) are from Northern Ireland (Derry) So I’m SUPER Irish, but I LOVE wearing any blue and green tartan. Especially one that has a brighter green or blue in it, because I am ginger, blue eyed, and very fair and I think it compliments that look. Plus blue and green are my favourite colours.!!!
For those that don't know there is also Irish Tartans If your family is from Ireland, one of the Irish County Tartans will most likely be appropriate, as there are only a handful of Irish Clan Tartans.
I live in America I've taken an interest in the Scott Hunting Tartans someone in America was able to put together what, I would call a collage it has one of our Hunting tartan our Clan badge ,Scottish thistle and a Celtic cross then I found a store to matt and frame it is very beautiful .
A plaid is a piece of tartan cloth worn over the shoulder when wearing a matching kilt and the black jacket and usually goes through the epaulets with a large metal pin.
A few years back when they were building the new Culloden visitor centre, they found a scrap of tartan buried in the mud. They sent it to the Lord Lyon & by studying the sett he was able to determine that it was MacLaren. It is now known as Culloden or heritage tartan & is my favorite.
I've Scottish, English and Welsh blood and blood ties to both Lamont and MacLean, quite proud of that, I have a Shirt I got from Primark that just so happens to have the same colour and almost Tartan like pattern as the Lamont Tartan.
I'm a Buchanan and my favorite is the Buchanan Hunting Tartan. My distant cousin (name withheld)wore the tartan when he starred in the movie Braveheart. If you've seen the movie you know who he is.

That’s so beautiful. I’m Aussie but I found out I’m nearly half Scottish which is amazing. I always thought I was really Scottish. I love to see what my surnames tartan looks like
One of the prodest moments recently for me, was that I found a tartan that I believed to be my families, Clan Rollo , and after speaking with an actual Scottish tartan/kilt maker (Kinloch Anderson). They said according to their books, that is correct. I am so excited to visit Scotland and have a true Kilt made. Your video just make me all the more excited
By direct heritage I am Clan MacLellan. I have some MacLeod blood as well as Trythbal and Keller. Irish people who immigrated to Scotland. I have a few kilts. I wear them to our local Celtic Festivals. They are Royal Stuart, Black Watch and loud Macleod. I wear Black Watch most often. It fits my persona and general wardrobe. I tend to darker colors.
My Dad told me that I have Scottish blood and Irish and Welsh. My clan in Scotland is Macfarlane. For Wales, it's the Buells. For Ireland its the Carty's.
I'm also not directly connected to a clan as my Dad is English and my Mother has a mixture of English, Irish and Scottish family. My closest clan is MacDonald of Sleat, which is connected to my Grandfather's Grandmother. I get comments from people saying I'm not a true scot (only english people make these comments), despite being born and raised in Scotland with a Scottish mum.
I married a Clan Kerr descendant. Theirs is a handsome tartan. The Louisiana tartan is good and the Texas Bluebonnet tartan is good if you are a displaced Texas native who misses the billowing fields of the beautiful flowers.
I love all tartans, but from a family perspective, my clan tartan is the Mitchell tartan. It is primarily green and royal blue with some black and red, and narrow white lines running through it. The older version was less defined and more of a sage green and grey- blue. It has associations with clans Innes, Forbes and MacDonald, and those surnames feature in my family tree. Although I'm from England, I have blood ties with Scotland and will be visiting Inverness and the Highlands in 2 weeks time! I can't wait! Great video, Mosco. Thumbs up. Haste ye back :)
Having Hay connections in the family tree, I have kilts made in 'Ancient Hay', 'Hunting Hay', as well as 'Black Watch' (friends & relatives having served in the Black Watch regiment), & 'State of Colorado' (where I was born, raised, & currently live). Alba gu Bráth!!
Anyway, my wife, of 20 years now, is Irish, and Scottish. She is 5' tall red hair blue eyes.. We both love your channel. Thank you for all of the knowledge. Ps. I like the black one myself, the purple sets it off.
While my surname (Herrington) doesn't directly have a tartan of its own as far as I can find, I do know my family tree has a lot of ties to the British Isles, Scotland being part of that, so I tried seeing if somewhere a few jumps back was "worthy"... I found one claim that my ancestors, through some of the intermixing of Scotland/England border-families, has enough of a connection to Clan Murray that I could, if I chose to do so, legitimately wear their tartan. Feel rather proud of that, even if I'm not "pure enough Scottish" to have a more direct claim to a tartan.
My wife is a Watt, which is a sept of Buchanan, which is a very colorful tartan. In my background, I have Anderson, Scott and Ely, the last one of which doesn't have a tartan, but was from Scotland.
Our family, Paterson is septed to Clan MacLaren (MacLabhruinn) so I wear that tartan. Modern kilt, Ancient trews, waistcoat and Tam with ties and bow ties in both. If you see the MacLaren F1 team they have a strip of the tartan on their racing helmets. Royal Stewart reminds me of shortbread packs at Christmas but it must be Paterson's!
My husbands tartan was Roux burgh. Mine is Macleod ancient /Harris. Love them both, but the MacLeod ancient is a much darker. All things Scottish, I used to breed Scottish Terriers, black ,brindles, and wheatens (blonde like me)!Feisty energetic little guys and gals, they keep you busy and are very happy little ones!!
My mothers side of the family is Campbell, and I had a kilt made with the Black Watch tartan pattern. I had to do some serious family research on this one. I had to get it right. The cost was pretty high, BUT... worth for once in a life time thing.
Yay!!! #3 on your Top 5 favorite Scottish Tartans is OUR clan tartan. 😊 My father was Ross Gordon MacKenzie Hume. We had both the Hume and Ancient Hume tartan items in our home when I was growing up. 😁 In fact, right now I have a teddy bear dressed in a Hume hoodie and a Hume tartan skirt in my bedroom that was given to me by my sister.
Clan Mackintosh tartan. Not only because of blood ties to the clan, but also because I enjoy the simplicity of it. I also love the subtle blue that's only noticed through closer examination. Blackwatch is my second favorite because it looks really smart.
On my upcoming trip to Scotland I plan on purchasing a bespoke kilt in my clan tartan of MacDonald of Clanranald (modern). My current kilts are MacNeil of Barra and U.S. Army. Of course Black Watch is always a favorite. The wife loves the Isle of Skye tartan.
My favorite tartan has to be my own clans, the Morrison tartan. The sharp red cutting through the dark blues and greens makes it really eye catching. ❤
Thats cool my wifes mother was a Hume. Her original ancestor here in the states was the second son, not heir to the title, so he came here pre revolutionary war. My mothers paternal side were Hunters from Scotland. I think thhe Hunter tartan is nice looking.
Research shows that some of my relatives from the 1700s and 1800s have a link to the Robertson clan, so I wear a Robertson kilt. My dad's first cousin was Jean McCarty Hume, so there's a tangential link to the Humes. Other tartans I like, strictly because of the patterns, are Buchanan, McCallum, MacLeod of Lewis, and Macbeth. . .
My father was born in Glasgow and his family all the way back. I don't know if we have any clan connections either but according to my last name we're of the Clan MacLaren and it's a handsome looking tartan either way.
I actually wear the LGBT tartan. You're right, it is filled with so much love and happiness. At my local Celtic Festival, I got many compliments. many people said, "Ive never seen a kilt with so many colors. Is it real?"
on many visits to scotland Glasgow early july lol speaking to a old man discussing uniforms etc asking me my name as a ulster scot he told me the border clans and lowlanders have no Tartan and many only started to be wore from victorian times as a fashion statement
Thanks fir showing me the Stewart Tartan, my wife says it has always been the one she liked the most, I never knew what it looked like that, even my granny didn't know for sure and she is a stewart on her mom's side some where
I love the Scottish Black! I have Irish blood too... there is a tartan called Irish Heritage which is really cool! It is “John Deere” green & yellow. (Just in case you dinae ken...John Deere is a tractor co)
Different rules on tartan wearing. I am allowed to wear the Logan tartan as I am blood related legally speaking I can't wear any other unless I marry into another clan and the chief gives me permission to wear theirs. My mother was allowed to wear the Royal Stewart as her Grandmother was blood related to the royal Stewart line.
My favourite tartans are (in no particular order): Stewart Black Modern, Graham of Menteth Modern, I also quite like The Black watch tartan even though it's everywhere I like the colors and I even like the weathered tartan, the Weir Modern ia also striking with contrast of yellow piping on dark blue background with pale blue highlights, lastly I also enjoy the "hidden" tartan of black on black. That's me list.
I'm a Gunn first and foremost. My favorite tartan is Gunn Ancient. In fact I just placed my order for a 16oz Gunn Ancient kilt. I can't wait for it to arrive in November. Always loving the videos. Have a good weekend!
Hi , I love all the Tartans you showed there, but the pink one - the letters on your t-shirt are made of - is also awsome. Greetings from a new fan from Germany, I just found your channel a couple of days ago, when I was actually looking for some gaelic lessons.... you are soooo funny and still informativ... actually you are the first influencer I happen to start follow.... I have a lot of vlogs to watch now and looking forward to everything upcoming. Well done and thanks for doing this .
The mill is so cool! It was so fun seeing all the patterns and the tartans actually being woven. We went in because we had extra time before walking up to the castle, and I'm so glad we did. Thanks for the video :)
I would be less than honest if I didn't say that my favorite tartan is United States Coast Guard. I've played side-drum for fifteen years for the Coast Guard Pipe Band. Yes, we play the same music as your intro. Secondly, the official state tartan of New Hampshire which includes purple for the lilacs, white for the snow on the mountains, green for the pine trees, and blue for the lakes. Finally, I like the Ulster tartan which was the home of my forefathers. It's an ancient tartan so while the description calls for red the ancient hue for red is a rusty orange
Of blood from the Bruce clan on my fathers side ,Irish runs on my mothers as she was a Duffy i wore my traditonal Bruce tartan for my wedding and a few services for the fire department i also own a pride of Ireland kilt that was a gift from a cousin while she studied in Dublin
The next tartan I want is the Gibson tartan which is from my biological father's side (took my adopted father's name). I think it is slightly based off of the Buchanan tartan. Next would be County Louth Ireland in honor of my wife's family which are from Drogheda area.
My Clan is Clan Fraser. Frizzell is the ancient 10th century variation of.Fraser. In a Scottish accent the names sound very familiar. Im am the 12x Grandson of Andrew Lord Fraser whos sons William and James Frissel were exiled to America after the Battle of Dunbar. I love our Formal Tartan Colors. Nice Dominent Red Similar to Stewert (Our fsmily to this day still love the Stewerts) . Our Hunting Tartan is very beautiful also.
Gunn is my family tartan but Ancient Gunn is the one for me (although I've got a Modern Gunn scarf). The argument with the Keiths was centuries ago, one of my best pals was a Keith.
My top 5, lowest to highest and why: 5 - Isle of Skye (The colours!) 4 - Bell of Borders (my paternal grandmother was a Bell) 3 - Australian National (I'm Australian living in the USA) 2 - MacBeth (Clan finder websites list my last name as a Sept) 1 - Giant's Causeway tartan. It was my Dad's dream place in Ireland to see but he never made it before he passed 😞
I'm in love with Scotland and all his tartans as well !!! Been there in august 2019. The best journey of my life ! Love you all there. Alba gu brath. Greetings from Croatia
My favorite family tartan is MacDonald of the Isles ancient green. My true favorite was on a paperback book cover when I was a kid. It was titled The Camerons by Robert Crichton. As an American I had no idea of my heritage. After reading the book I researched our family history. I also read history books about Scotland & Ireland throughout my teens & 20s.
My dad's grandfather actually has a family clan in Scotland and I have no clue what their tartan is and I can't ask him bc he sadly passed away 15yrs ago. But I know for a fact he's part of the Cummins Clan
My favorite tartan is from the Clan Gordon cuz my father was a Gordin. There are several variations of the Gordon tartan. My fav is the modern tartan with its green, blue, black & yellow. Very pretty. My second choice is the dress Gordon. It has all the same colors as the modern but with a white background.
I'm Forrester on my mom's side, Marshall (and so: MacDonald) on my dad's)...my favorite is the Forrester Hunting Tartan, a mostly green plaid. It's a small clan so it's not that easy to track the fabric down
I'm from america, but my ancestors are mainly Scottish. My family did a genealogy search and I'm from the Mcgregor clan. So I would say check out the ancient hunters tartan for the Mcgregors ( It's a nice orange and green one). One day I'm going to get a kilt made from it.
Keith is the predonmiant clan in my ancestory (though I have Hamilton, MacLelland, Buchanan, just to name a few), and the Keith Ancient tartan is my favorite. The Hamilton tartan (not the green or black, but the original red with blue) is my second favorite. Buchanan you can take it or leave it. You really have to know what you're doing to pull that one off. Incidentally the high school I went to in Springfield, Missour, Kickapoo High School, used to have an all female pipe and drum corps that work kilts and their tartan was the Buchanan tartan. They were known as the Bonnie Buchanans. In fact all 5 of our high schools used to have all female pipe and drum corps, each with their own specific tartan. Two of the schools still have them. The oldest is our Central (Springfield) High school with the Central Kilties founded in 1926 by R. Richie Robertson (who was from Scotland). The Parkview Lassies is the other one that is still around, founded in 1956. Here is a list of all five schools and their names and tartans: Central HS Kilties (Royal Stuart) - 1926 - current Parkview HS Lassies (Gordon tartan) - 1956 - 1994, 2012 - current Hillcrest HS Highlanders (Dress Stuart) - 1958 - 2011 Glendale HS Glengarry Scots (Lindsay) - 1963 - 2003 Kickapoo HS Bonnie Buchanans (Buchanan) 1972 - 1988
My five favorite tartans could be: -Buchanan (all those rainbow colors!) -Cameron of Erracht (note my RUclips channel name) -Leslie (the military version, the tartan of the King's Own Scottish Borderers) -MacLeod Dress (great for a lady's mini-kilt :D) -Maple Leaf (I'm Canadian; this tartan combines the colors of the maple leaf at different seasons) Other examples of good tartans are: MacGregor, MacGregor Red and Black ("Rob Roy" check; I like to call it the Lumberjack tartan), Red Erskine (my pipe band's tartan), Haig/Buccleugh.
I like the Wallace Hunting. I'm a sucker for greens and yellows. I've been messing around with a tartan design program. Haven't come up with anything I'm happy with though
Of course I like the Royal Stewart since I'm descended from the Kings of Scotland through the 3rd Earl of Bute. I always thought my tipsy grandma was having us on about this, but we did the genealogy and sure enough. So I also like Stuart of Bute. The modern version of this tartan is really pretty with maroons and sky blue. I like the US Air Force tartan, as it also has the sky blue theme.
My family's ancestral tartan is very rare and very pretty: MacThomas We's actually one of the smallest clans in Scotland. The name actually mean "Son of Thomas Macintosh." We broke away and became a branch of the Macintosh clan about 500 years ago.
My kilt is called National tartan but it’s more green. I have several Scottish clan lines in my family. My mother’s maiden name is Anderson. I’ve also got Bensons that’s I think has the best tartan. The Muirhead tartan is just loud. This is all on mom’s side. Dad’s ancestors are either German or Ulster Scots. Classic American mutt :)
Wow! I really like that black/grey/purple one, slide that into #2 spot on my list. But I'd be remiss if I didn't reserve my #1 spot for the Clan Elliott tartan. Though I prefer the more vibrant 'modern' version, I think both look quite handsome. I would suppose my #3 favorite tartan would be that of Clan Kincaid. I just think it's demure enough to command respect, but bold enough to elicit attention. Plus, they also have a raised sword in their clan crest, probably some pretty exciting folks to hang out with! Spots #4 and #5 on my list are still open, as I don't get to spend much time researching tartans. Wish you continued success on your channel, keep up the good work.
BTW vibrant colors could not not generally be produced in Europe until the invention of industrial dyes in the18th century. Only rich nobles could afford vivid natural dyes prior. The Fraser tartan in Outlander is not only historically inaccurate, but even as based on the modern fraud, the producers got the clan wrong. Jamie Fraser et al wear the tartan of the lowland Fraser clan. HIs would have been of the highland Fraser Lovat clan (vibrant colors).
Thank for doing this. I love tartans. The ones i have as kilts are Gordon and Heritage Of Scotland. Ofcourse i would love to have one in the Swedish tartan. I always had a weak spot for Barclay and recently Buchanan has grown on me (despite being a bit ”busy”). I was actually asked to have a tartan designed for my lodge. Before internet i owned several books on tartans.
I love the Queen’s Balmoral tartan (even though no one can wear it outside of the royal family and their staff). Other favorites are Stirling with it’s beautiful greys, and my clan MacDonald, which has gorgeous blue, green and black highlighted with red.
Michael Larson do you mean Balmoral (Royal)? Predominantly grey with a double thin red stripe? Only the Queen and permitted family can wear that. All staff and keepers wear Balmoral tweed.
I just looked it up and in addition to the royal family, the tartan is also worn by the piper(s) on the estate. At one time the gilles wore it as well, but later switched to tweed.
Michael Larson The Queens Piper does indeed wear the tartan whilst playing at Balmoral. When at Windsor or other residences he (never been a female one....yet) he changes back to his regimental tartan.
I love the second one. I am in the process of looking for a tartan for my very first kilt, I would have a more suitable "district" tartan as like you I have no scottish clan, but I am looking for more options. Thanks for the ideas! Love your vlog!
The Hebridean Thistle, MacShuibhe (MacSween) Black and MacLeòid na Hearadh (MacLeod of Harris) are easily my favourite tartans. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for them as a Hebridean and as a MacSween + MacLeod. I really love the colour scheme of your new tartan - especially the green!
I wish I knew my family tartans. I have Scottish on both my parents' sides, but no clue what the tartans are. I have seen a kilt here in Australia, though. One of the boys was born in Scotland, and wore his grandfathers kilt. :)
My Favorite tartan is Clan Frasers Tartan, I just love the colors and it goes beautifully with My red Hair. I am descended from two clans, Cameron LET US UNITE! and I am Proud to be able to wear a Beautiful, vibrant tartan that has a lot of history, and Clan Chalmers ADVANCE! The chalmers Tartan is my favorite because it Most closely resembles my Heritage and I just love Both of my clans Tartan's!
Have a look at the MacLean of Duart Modern tartan I se it as comparable to Royal Stewart. My second fave is MacLean Hunting. Another is Smith Modern from my Mom's side of the Family. I know we say Mom, you say Mum, it's all good either way.
Cool. There were part of the revival of Scottish culture in the 70's and they are one of the big Reason the punk band the Ramones started. The original members hear them play on Saturday Night light live and decided to form there own band.
Hello, just a quick one! It is late at night and I am on a soul search to discover more about myself and my Scottish history/ancestry. Where do I start and where can I find out about my clan (Shaw). Love for some help. many thanks.
Dont forget to let me know what lovely topics you're having issues with for me to give you... some... very... sarcastic... facetious... Scottish advice... xD
WeeScottishLass can u do some more stupid Scottish laws please xxx
I'm an Aussie who's moving to Glasgow in about a months time - any advice is welcome, facetious or not :D
How do I deal with life now that they've stopped selling Irn-Bru in my area?
Id love to see one on disability services and resources.

No chameleons were actually harmed in the making of this comment!
I've been told only people with Royal ancestry are permitted to wear Black Watch.
@@isopath1 They are. The Munro Clan are permitted to wear the Black Watch tartan.
Same black watch the best coming from a scot
My mother was a Wallace. Their bold black red and yellow tartan is often what is used when a red tartan is used.

McLean Hunting tartan. The oldest of them all. I wear a Royal Stewart simply because I haven’t found a modern McLean in NewZealand yet
My wife is a Watt, which is a sept of Buchanan, which is a very colorful tartan. In my background, I have Anderson, Scott and Ely, the last one of which doesn't have a tartan, but was from Scotland.

Susan Millard u fucking traitor to the Scottish crown your just like the McGregors
My favourite tartans include: Royal Stewart (my uni here in Canada used it a lot), Black Watch, Nova Scotia (Canada), and the Cape Breton tartan.
I love the black watch tartan it's soo handsom
Ahh, I am a member of Clan Home and wear that tartan as my kilt every day.
I’m actually about to install 2 yards of it that I just had milled onto the headliner of my Chevy truck, to personalize my truck a bit.
Research shows that some of my relatives from the 1700s and 1800s have a link to the Robertson clan, so I wear a Robertson kilt. My dad's first cousin was Jean McCarty Hume, so there's a tangential link to the Humes. Other tartans I like, strictly because of the patterns, are Buchanan, McCallum, MacLeod of Lewis, and Macbeth. . .
It's nice to find out the Stewart tartan is so popular. My mother's maiden name was Stewart.
I am from the Hume clan. My grandmothers maiden name is Holmes. We did the research and found we are the Humes/Homes clan.
My great grand mum's last name was Stewart from the Eastern Shore of Maryland USA. Thank you so much for posting Wee Scottish Lass! Love ya!
Courage grows strong with a wound.
Congrats on the tartan registry. I do replace my Campbell of Argyll Scarf with the Royal Stuart every December.
Most of the U.S. states, at least 34, have adopted an official tartan. All are registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority.
I would be less than honest if I didn't say
that my favorite tartan is United States Coast Guard. I've played side-drum for
fifteen years for the Coast Guard Pipe Band. Yes, we play the same music
as your intro. Secondly, the official state tartan of New Hampshire
which includes purple for the lilacs, white for the snow on the mountains,
green for the pine trees, and blue for the lakes. Finally, I like the Ulster tartan
which was the home of my forefathers. It's an ancient tartan so while the
description calls for red the ancient hue for red is a rusty orange
Of blood from the Bruce clan on my fathers side ,Irish runs on my mothers as she was a Duffy i wore my traditonal Bruce tartan for my wedding and a few services for the fire department i also own a pride of Ireland kilt that was a gift from a cousin while she studied in Dublin
My favorite is Ancient Blue Stewart, followed by the McGregor Hunting. I can claim both,.but prefer Stewart.
Traditionally highland tartan isn’t very interesting simply because highlanders prefer killing than sewing. Cool video!
The Gunn tartan will forever be my favourite 💖
Ho no I'm Keith clan
I have a Gunn modern tartan kilt. Its a lovely tartan and well admired. Ian
@@excaliber1136 The Keith’s, our clans enemies ( Gunn) 😂
Gunn is my family tartan but Ancient Gunn is the one for me (although I've got a Modern Gunn scarf). The argument with the Keiths was centuries ago, one of my best pals was a Keith.
Clan Gunn here, I’m more fond of the ancient tartan as well.
Although i love my black and white, even as a MacFarlane the Anderson ancient will always be my favourite.
Nice vid hen all the best.
My top 5, lowest to highest and why:
5 - Isle of Skye (The colours!)
4 - Bell of Borders (my paternal grandmother was a Bell)
3 - Australian National (I'm Australian living in the USA)
2 - MacBeth (Clan finder websites list my last name as a Sept)
1 - Giant's Causeway tartan. It was my Dad's dream place in Ireland to see but he never made it before he passed 😞
I'm in love with Scotland and all his tartans as well !!! Been there in august 2019. The best journey of my life ! Love you all there. Alba gu brath. Greetings from Croatia
Clan Kerr Hunting tartan is one of my favorites. They also have a fuscia tartan with some appeal, although being a Kerr, their standard tartan rocks!
The Wilson Tartan is mine, my ancestors came to the US in the 1700’s VIA Ulster Ireland, would love to visit the highlands one day.
The twice that I've worn a kilt it has been the Seaforth Highlander/MacKenzie Modern; my Grandfather and Uncle's regimental tartan.
My father in law is clan Gordon, my mother in law is clan Craig, and my family is from the lowlands and our last name was Hogg. That's my top 3
Here is a list of all five schools and their names and tartans:
Central HS Kilties (Royal Stuart) - 1926 - current
Parkview HS Lassies (Gordon tartan) - 1956 - 1994, 2012 - current
Hillcrest HS Highlanders (Dress Stuart) - 1958 - 2011
Glendale HS Glengarry Scots (Lindsay) - 1963 - 2003
Kickapoo HS Bonnie Buchanans (Buchanan) 1972 - 1988
My five favorite tartans could be:
-Buchanan (all those rainbow colors!)
-Cameron of Erracht (note my RUclips channel name)
-Leslie (the military version, the tartan of the King's Own Scottish Borderers)
-MacLeod Dress (great for a lady's mini-kilt :D)
-Maple Leaf (I'm Canadian; this tartan combines the colors of the maple leaf at different seasons)
Other examples of good tartans are: MacGregor, MacGregor Red and Black ("Rob Roy" check; I like to call it the Lumberjack tartan), Red Erskine (my pipe band's tartan), Haig/Buccleugh.
MacFarlane is my favourite tartan. Red, hunting, or black & white, I find the design stunning.
My families clan tartan will always be my favourite
Yes, that’s the tartan I mean, grey with the thin red stripe - the one only the royal family can wear. I didn’t realize the staff wore tweed.
Buchanan Tartan my great great grandfather came to America from Scotland, he was a Harper.
ancient Macpherson tartan is cool, Macpherson hunting tartan is common.
I got my first kilt this summer in Edinburgh... Can't wait to get it delivered... very nice choices there!
That Scottish Black National Tartan looks stunning!
Have a look at the MacLean of Duart Modern tartan I se it as comparable to Royal Stewart. My second fave is MacLean Hunting. Another is Smith Modern from my Mom's side of the Family. I know we say Mom, you say Mum, it's all good either way.
Clearly mine is the traditional Burnett of Ley's Tartan. Hope to visit Crathe's Castle in the near future.
Clan Maclellan is an awesome Tartan
first saw tartans in the 70s with the bay city rollers lol
Cool. There were part of the revival of Scottish culture in the 70's and they are one of the big Reason the punk band the Ramones started. The original members hear them play on Saturday Night light live and decided to form there own band.
Nice tartans but my favorite will always be my Innes family tartan.
Mine is County Louth, Ireland.
Red, green, blue and yellow with purple where the red and blue meet.
Hello,
just a quick one! It is late at night and I am on a soul search to discover more about myself and my Scottish history/ancestry.
Where do I start and where can I find out about my clan (Shaw). Love for some help.
many thanks.
I'm partial to the Kerr tartan for obvious reasons. lol
