The human ambassador was worried that they wouldn't accept the sword for it being so plain. The Voraki Ambassador gave him a spear her great-great grandfather made in a survival situation made of bone and a stick. Probably took less than 3 hours to make. The iron of Peace Seeker was mined by the blacksmith's father, and refined, and forged by his ancestor (though saying it took a day and had any sort of decent balance is unlikely. Modern blacksmiths can take days to forge a sword of true worth, and they have things like power hammers to make it easier. That sword took at least three days to make.) The ambassador had that spear in her family for 5 generations, and it was considered worthy of a gift of alliance. Peace-Seeker had been in Michael's family for somewhere between 40 and 60 generations, with each generation adding to the story of the sword, keeping records of what it had done, where it went and who it had killed. They kept a record of freaking NAMES, not just numbers, of people it had killed. A fourth generation weapon is considered a relic, worthy of being respected by those who see it. A 40th generation weapon, with the provinence of being made by an ancestor, and created down to the metal being used through the sweat and toil of the ancestor would be considered worthy of a place of honor on an emperor's mantle.
It would be like the emperor of japan the longest unending royal bloodline on the planet gifting one of the royal swords that area greater than 1000 years old which there are a few. That would be a gift. And many japanese had family swords that had been made 10 generations before that were made by their great forefather as the family sword. And even in the US there are fsmily guns where the great forefather made a Pennsylvania long gun back in the 1770s. Thats more than 10 generations. I myself have a family sword that is 9 to 10 generations that is a bavarian artillery officers sword. From the 1650s in very good shape with the metal scabbard. Kept by my uncle. It has something written on it in low german. I will have to ask him. Its Its something like let my strike or aim be true.
It is kind of bizarre how the ambassador didn't realize the worth of such sword. On on one side, I get it, it was just a heirloom for him. but is silly how someone chose HIM to present this gift without realizing it. If it was known how that species values a weapon with a story, it should have been VERY clear how they would value this sword... I imagine that if the ambassador consulted about this sword with the anthropologist who gave him the directive, they would not worry so much. :D
The fact that we’re all out here on the verge of wailing like babies at this just speaks volumes about how much generational heirlooms and history actually mean to us, whether we know it or not.
"here is my grandmother's spoon collection, handle it with care." "ok, and in exchange here are the stone tablets that first held the 10 commandments, and a written record of everything they have ever gone through, handle them with care."
"One drop of water in an eternal ocean, can create tidal waves the size of gods." We never live to see what out good deeds bring, but it will always mean something in some way.
My four year old just asked me “what’s wrong, Daddy? Why are you crying?” So I got cuddles from my daughter because I watched this narration. The gift that keeps on giving.
Well said friend, well said. (Hello again by the way, it's been many a year!) Sadly, many people forget that their blood, genetics, carry the history of their line too. Any tool can carry history, from a sword or wrench, to a blanket or genetics. Your genetics are a tool used to keep you in working order, yet they carry the history of all that came before. People forget this. I wish they wouldn't. It amazes me how few people desire to have kids anymore. How ever fewer desire to pass on their family history. Mine will likely be lost this generation due to reasons out of my control. Please. Don't let it happen to your story too. Save your ancestors from being forgotten, before it's too late.
@@chetw3139 My great-grandmother told each of her three children a completely different, incompatible “family history”. We all wonder which, if any of them, is true.
I LOVE this story. The pure example of object that holds stories, the sword itself being a main character here... This is Proper Pro tier short story, and narration as perfect as always.
Terrible day for rain But a beautiful day to hear a story of lineage A tale of seeking peace even into the future Started with simply a hope for a better life
After hearing this, I went and picked up my Mother's Bible. It was mass produced in a printery just over 50 years ago, but it matters as all true family heirlooms do. Parting with a sword that has seen your family through a thousand years and a hundred battles is no small matter. The Ambassador was right. That is a gift for an Emperor. At least.
It's incredible the alien had a far greater understanding of the importance and honour of the sword than the human who inherited it from over a thousand years of his ancestors.
I love stories like these! Many stories under HFY speak of war and physical might, but the ones that strike a chord with me most are those about making our alien neighbours truly happy to know us!
Not gonna lie, crying while writing this. Loved every word of this. I'm a real sucker for the stories behind heirlooms. How incredible to think that someday, a thousand year old blade, kept well throughout a families history, might awe and inspire our new galactic neighbours.

Okay my friend sent me this video and another he had me listen to first, and for starters I'm just gunna say how dare you make me tear up with happy-peace-tears at the end of an already long day and emotionally exhausting day. Fabulously done, and also the ambient music you put on is atmospheric as hell. Excellent choice. You have definitely earned my interest, and holy crap you kick ass.
This is one of the few stories that made me almost shed tears, which is very hard to do since alot of media (outside of a very good anime called Made In Abyss) failed in doing that. It was unexpected it wasn't foreshadowed to have an emotional twist at the end but it worked.
Matthew's desire for a life pf peace and prosperity for his son was so powerful it kept carrying over to the next generation for over 1000 years. That Ambassador that received the sword or maybe her eldest will likely be married into the Imperial family to bring the sword into the fold, since it seems like the sword's history predates the Emire's own founding, and this would be a great way to make sure the Imperial family will keep to the promise of eternal peace
The title reminds me of a one-shot Justice League villain named The Peacemaker (I think). Long story short he was an alien general who used his army to flare up war zones then quash the fighting and claim the territory. It didn't take long for The League to piece this together, and it was Wonder Woman who confronted The Peacemaker during a speech, alongside Superman, Lantern, and Batman. The reason he was a one-shot is what he said to her after she made her accusations; "I'm sorry, but are you a whore?"
Writer did not understand the phrase "in anger" as applied to a weapon. It means, essentially, used in combat. Against enemies. Used during target practice or a wargame as, for example, a tournament would not be in anger, even if the wielder was frustrated as hell for whatever reason. Used during any sort of actual battle would be "in anger" regardless, similarly, of the wielder's emotions. If he needed the sword (normally one went into battle with a spear like weapon or a missile thrower like a bow, the sword was just a sidearm. It was meant to give one a chance to get out of the feces when everything went haywire) and if the wielder subsequently got out of the battle alive, he was probably cold as ice, no feeling at all. That ending slapped. While many things sadly have no meaning to us, I offten wonder what all the stuff arround us might have meant to someone a long time ago. The weight of dreams. Something worth crying for. Some would say the object has a soul, something easily dismissed nowadays.
Unfortunately for the story less than a generation. Assuming fairly heavy use. And as far as I know even the 130 plus kills would be pushing a sword to the limit
There are ways to sharpen a sword without removing material. My grandfather taught me how to sharpen knives with a glass rod, and it's more like polishing the edge back into shape. It doesn't get rid of knicks, but it does sharpen it. Maybe that's a way it could work? And rust isn't really a problem if you make sure it's well oiled, clean and dry.
its not how swords work think you got a sword of your grandfather and its handel is used up what do you do? replace it with a nev one. - is it still the sword of your grandfather? sure it is then after much use your kid gets it and the blade is chipped what wil he do ? reforge it or change for a nev one. Is it still th sword that his grandgrandfathr used? sure it is. ;P And so we go thru generations to come with an ancient sword from the past ;P
Swords are essentially imperishable given proper care and upkeep. If nothing especially disastrous happened to a sword, it could be expected to last very many human lifespans when attended to properly. Correct attention varies, but it essentially boils down to keeping a sword oiled to prevent atmospheric moisture from rusting the blade. A sword that has been used to take only a 150 lives is unlikely to have taken much damage, and wouldn't need much more than regular cleaning with an oily rag. Even if a blade does need to be sharpened you have a choice, honing and sharpening: Honing returns a dulled blade to sharpness, but won’t fix major nicks and chips. If you haven’t gotten any chips, you can hone your sword more or less indefinitely to restore the edge. Honing keeps a blade sharp by pushing the edge back to the center without removing any material. Sharpening removes a part of the blade to bring back an undamaged edge. If you’ve gotten a bad chip, sharpening is how you get rid of it.
Given how little use it had, it could last for thousands of years. If you want a real life example look up Charlemagne's sword La Joyeuse from the 800s. The Nebra sky disk swords are a few thousand years old, but remain a topic of debate for historians.
a simple miner wishing for his son to have a better life ... and with the sword fought for many to have a better life ... the to be offered as a promise for better between people... damn the onion chopping ninjas again
This story warmed my heart! It shows, how a sword can be so much more, than just the sum of its parts! They are not just murdering tools, but symbols for protection and the will to rise against all odds!
that was so astoundingly beautiful that it legitimately made me cry, wow. I truly believe that this story has touched the heart(s) of at least myself and however many others of the currently 6,357 people who have watched this. For the blade that has stood guard throughout the generations, thousands of years through the rain, sleet, snow, immeasurable layers of rust and humble beginnings. The Voraki makes this promise to you. You will finally know rest. Throughout the eons to come we make this promise, we make the promise that as empires rise and fall, generations blink out of existence. You will never be called upon again by your family in their defense from us, for you have earned your rest.
yo animators out there if you see this, plz plz plz make animation over this narration im kinda shocked by how perfect this story is and id like to see it animated,no other hfy story deserves it as much as this one.
This sword... It doesn't deserve to merely rest on a mantle. It deserves to be venerated, blessed, and cherished. It deserves to be placed upon the shoulder of the Empress herself as She is coronated. It deserves to rest in a place where it overlooks the peaceful lives of the people. For their love and happiness IS its rest.
Honestly one of the best and most creative stories ive heard from HFY. While most are just human circle-jerking, this one was awesome and had actual meaning. A story of generations of a family honoring a simple item.
I guess you could say I'm a sentimental type when it comes weapons and ancient heirlooms cause I actually had to keep myself from tearing up during the last era of the story.
"This is not a gift to you. It's a gift from my species to yours. It is given in the hopes that it will continue and expand it's destiniy to create peace and a better life. You and your family just get the responsibility to take care of it." It's a very rare occasion, that I start a story over again the very moment I finished crying about it. This one is the very epitome of one of humans most basic desires, to make a difference beyond ones own lifespan and to help ones family for generations to come.

It is a humble blade, unlike King Arthur's famed blade, Excalibur, it is only known to a few. It is a simple blade, unlike the famed blades of Muramasa, known for their wicked brilliance and power, it is a blade made by an apprentice blacksmith, seeking to prove his skill to his master. It is, however, a blade steeped in history, a blade used for generations to protect, to liberate, to inspire. It has seen countless battles, it has taken the lives of bandits, slavers, and tyrants. To the many, it is only a weapon wielded by protectors and liberators, nothing more. To a few, however, it is known as the Peace-Seeker.

@@chunkysweirdtoaster3081 You, my friend, just invented a new Jojo's Stand.
I'll likely always say this is my best work, and you brought it to life amazingly! Thanks so much for doing it mate, absolutely stellar performance! :D
i have listened to so many hfy story's the best one's so far were "humans don't make good pets","unhealthy curiosity","a job for a deathworlder"........these are the one's i tought i could re read eventualy, there was one that i re watched narration of twise,it was called "a captured human"
it was an emotional story abotu aliens in our time capturing a single girl from her home and she was only 12,she in panic killed a few aliens before them killing her with her screaming unbelievably loud.
one of the people who commited the crime managed to flee sinse we already damaged their ship and recorded the event, eventualy it was transmitted across the galaxy after we reverse engenered their technology, basicly it was teary tragedy story i re watched twise
im now on to re watching this video for the 4th time now......damn your level of story telling is impossable to match.
@@theicyphoenixrecords5980 Thank you for your kind words! Captured Human is one of my favourites as well, but I felt I coulda done a few things a bit better. Doubt I'll ever top Peace Maker though, but I'll certainly try too! Now if only I could get rid of this pesky writers block :P
@@TashdacatGaming well i kinda get that,i can write good story's but there isn't much on hfy that hasn't already been used,im trying to think best thing that could be original but i didn't thunk up anything that i didn't remember somone else use before...btw hire animators to animate over this narration here it's THAT good.
Thank you for creating such a moving story. Each piece interlocks like an epic, making a strong house for a heart warming story around the hearth. Like the sword it details, it needn't be flowery or complex. The sense of grandeur built upon a wish. And idea that we can be better. I know not of a more relatable desire. The roof of this verbal bliss is the completion of that hope. Finality in proof that it can happen.
Thank you. So very much. May your day be bright and cheerful for bringing a warmth to our hearts once more. :)
@@jeffwillsea6757 Thank you so much for your kinds words! I wrote and rewrote this story a bunch of times trying to make the pieces interlock and feel like a proper tale. Multiple pieces for scrapped because I just couldn't make them fit right, and I'm so glad the final product is loved by so many! :D
damn i cry this was beautiful simply beautiful i would give ten thumbs up if i could.
That ending slapped. While many things sadly have no meaning to us, I offten wonder what all the stuff arround us might have meant to someone a long time ago. The weight of dreams. Something worth crying for. Some would say the object has a soul, something easily dismissed nowadays.
Looks like it's raining out. That story got to me. 10 out of 10.
It actually is raining around here.
What a terrible day for rain.
Between the rain and the onion cutting ninjas
@@patrickmoore5317 yeah 😭
But really. This is the first time a story did such thing to me.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
i JUST ate en entire onion sandwich....and this story got me into the feels indeed it did!
Why oh why did a story romanticize the spirit of a weapon and the people it touched, touch me to the point of tears?
In the end the blade was used for its namesake without having to take a single life. A perfect ending.
(I almost cried)
It had slain almost a 150 people though?
@@TheZebinator yea but in its final instance of peace it didnt have to. i didnt say over all.
@@aurisb3800 ah okay I see what you mean now, yeah that's true
same lol
A legit Heirloom, 1,000 years old sword
asuming it would not be damaged by rust, how long unitl the sword would simply wither away form being sharpened so many times?
Even if a blade does need to be sharpened you have a choice, honing and sharpening:
Honing returns a dulled blade to sharpness, but won’t fix major nicks and chips.
The Nebra sky disk swords are a few thousand years old, but remain a topic of debate for historians.
the closest I have ever come to crying from one of these stories
i actualy did cry in the end
@@theicyphoenixrecords5980 understandable it is a heavy read
a simple miner wishing for his son to have a better life ... and with the sword fought for many to have a better life ... the to be offered as a promise for better between people...
damn the onion chopping ninjas again
This story warmed my heart! It shows, how a sword can be so much more, than just the sum of its parts! They are not just murdering tools, but symbols for protection and the will to rise against all odds!
that was so astoundingly beautiful that it legitimately made me cry, wow. I truly believe that this story has touched the heart(s) of at least myself and however many others of the currently 6,357 people who have watched this. I do not have adequate words to describe how that made me feel, and nay do I believe that such words exist in any language, human or not, known or not, on this day I know that after such a story I will never be the same again and in light of this I thank you, NetNarrator, for presenting such a story to me. May you encounter and appreciate a thousand, nay, a million blessings and such too for your significant other, your children (if you do or ever will have any), and u/Tasdacat and their SO and children.
This is the best one I've heard yet
I can't believe you're making me fight the onion ninjas at work! Dam you and your supurb narration!
yo animators out there if you see this, plz plz plz make animation over this narration
im kinda shocked by how perfect this story is and id like to see it animated,no other hfy story deserves it as much as this one.
i would love to see an animation like that too
This is one of the truly special ones.
I do not have the words to express the depth of emotion this affects me with.
This is, simply amazing, and touching
shit that was a tearjerker, epic one man
5 times watched, 5 times cried. I go back to this story every now and then, and every time it holds as one of the best stories I have listened to.
OMG... WOW!!!! Not just the "empress" wept, so did I hearing this story. SO AMAZING!!!
Are you her? XD
so poetic
resisting the urge to start chest beating and crying was hard by the end of this.
Wow, just wow.
Honestly one of the best and most creative stories ive heard from HFY. While most are just human circle-jerking, this one was awesome and had actual meaning. A story of generations of a family honoring a simple item.
This has brought tears to my eyes.
Why is it raining indoors...? why is this so beautiful...?
I guess you could say I'm a sentimental type when it comes weapons and ancient heirlooms cause I actually had to keep myself from tearing up during the last era of the story.
"This is not a gift to you. It's a gift from my species to yours. It is given in the hopes that it will continue and expand it's destiniy to create peace and a better life. You and your family just get the responsibility to take care of it."
It's a very rare occasion, that I start a story over again the very moment I finished crying about it.
This one is the very epitome of one of humans most basic desires, to make a difference beyond ones own lifespan and to help ones family for generations to come.
