  • Michael Pearl answers a question from a viewer: In John 6:44 Jesus said "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him." Also, in John 6:65 Jesus said "no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father." What do these passages mean?

Pearl just comes right out and says it, “The heresy of Calvinism.” I can’t even express how refreshing this is. I met my wife at a Calvinist church that I did not know was Calvinist. I never grew up with that stuff but over the years I started to hear this strange teaching and I eventually confirmed that they are Calvinist though they seem to try and keep it on the DL. I’m glad that she was able to see and believe the truth.

Here's my take on Calvinism (not that anyone asked): God exists outside of time, space, and matter. He is the original source, the prime reality. Nothing, absolutely nothing, surprises Him. The entirety of human history has essentially already played out in his mind. Though we seem to be able to choose to come to Him, he already knows who will choose that path. The game is already over, yet ongoing. God's elect we're known, and perhaps selected, before the foundation of the world, but the process is ongoing in the current age. - Calvinism is simply an explanation of a Devine reality (God's reality) that we struggle to understand. Armenians explain the process of salvation as it unfolds within each of us as we live our lives. At the end of the day I don't think I've seen anything heretical within Calvinism as a structure of Christianity. And, honestly, I don't think it's our job as Christians to try and harmonize the differences between monergism and synergism. Our job is to the share the Gospel of Christ as scripturally accurate as possible as often as we can. I'd love to hear other folks' calm thoughts on my comment. God Bless.

I agree, the Doctrine of Election is all through the Bible...
      Rom 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
But we were given to Christ by God the Father
4 times Jesus said "given me" in His prayer.
Joh_17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
Joh_17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast
given me, that they may be one, as we are.
Joh_17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
Joh_17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

Do you honestly believe that Calvinists deny that everyone who repents and trusts Christ will certainly be saved? At least try to represent our view accurately. Do you not understand that the word translated "draw" always refers to an effectual action like drawing a sword, dragging a net full of fish to shore, or drawing water from a well? Additionally, Jesus said he would raise up the one drawn on the last day. The "him" in both clauses refers to the same person. The "him" drawn is the "him" who is raised on the last day. It is also the same referent as "all the Father has given" v. 39 and "everyone who sees the Son and believes in him" v. 40.
Additionally, you need to consider that the verse Jesus cited from Isa. 54 is speaking about an internal and effectual teaching of the Father that will characterize the age of the Messiah. Everyone who is taught internally and effectually will come to him. Not one of them will jump out of the net.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Since the passage above has no indication that it is meant for the dead or people who are near death we have to assume that this passage is meant for those "living" as the information contained in the Bible is of no use to those who are already dead and if you are dead it is too late.
What the passage above is referring to is that if a person does what Jesus had asked then God will reveal himself to that person and Jesus had asked his followers really only one thing to do. Give to the poor and needy. Why? When God cast Satan out of Heaven God also gave Satan dominion over the earth thus with Satan having dominion over the earth, Satan has most people's souls already due to people's thirst for money, materialism, power, and greed.
By giving up one's money and materialistic possessions to the poor and needy God will not only reveal himself to those who give generously but God will also take care of those and give the individual what they need, when they need it. This will also include opening the doors to the unseen spiritual / physical battle that the Bible mentions that is going on all around us that "YOU" yourself will become a part of in which you will put on your spiritual armor of God and assist God's army in this fight against Good and Evil.
BTW ~ These individuals will also get their ticket into Heaven as well....

      @djohnson3093 3 года назад

He doesn't need our help but He commissioned us, as believers to help.
Since the crucifixion we are His vessels of delivering the gospel.
Our mission as Christians is so that OTHERS may come to know Him.
      That is our whole purpose.
"Blessed are the feet of those who bring the good news".
We are not told to live our lives rightly as a personal test so God can see if we're really a believer. He knows.
We are to live rightly and with good conduct so that others will glorify God.
We are His ambassadors. We are to spread the gospel to the lost.
The drawing is done differently after the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. God has given us the Holy Spirit, the gospel, preachers, teachers, writers, and His body for the purpose of drawing men to Himself.
Before the death, burial and resurrection, Jesus hadn't ascended, the Helper hadn't come, the gospel wasn't in effect, the blood hadn't been shed for our transgressions and salvation by grace through faith wasn't attainable.
All that changed after the death and resurrection of Christ. Now we are the messengers, the deliverers of the good news.
True... God doesn't need our help with anything. It was His choice to commission His people. He could have done it the way the calvinists teach and chose who would be saved from before the foundation of the world and called it good.
But to His glory, He gave us the honor of being His method of delivery so that whosoever believeth the message we are to carry may have eternal life through Christ our risen Savior.
That doesn't mean that everyone will believe the message that we deliver. Unfortunately, (as we see today), most probably won't. We can only take the good news to the lost and after hearing, it's completely up to them what they do with it. The choice is theirs to make as to whether they believe or not.
But we continue in love to take the message of truth that brings salvation to those who are lost.
      Blessings friend!

From my understanding the Calvinists have that point of view simply because not everyone who hears believes and most die that way completely veiled and lost. If we can in fact on our own, through our own free will believe then doesn’t that suggest that those that don’t choose not to. Watch some Living Waters videos, 99.99% of the people they interview think they are good people going to heaven, whom completely denounce Christ. Imagine this for a minute, your lying down on your back, you have a thumb through each belt loop, you push your belt loops away from your waist, toward the sky and you pick yourself up. This is what it would be like if you could some how believe all by yourself. I really like Michael Pearl and feel like my life has been blessed by his ministry, on this one though he’s a bit off. If you’ve already watched the video go back and watch the first 1:30 minutes then pause and go to 5:10.
If you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ praise God for that, how about you give credit where credit is do and stop boasting unto yourself.

      Hey friend
"In Him". Not "to be in Him"
This passage is talking about the blessings that were predestined for those who are "in Him".
Many like to claim that this verse and the few after is saying that some are predestined for salvation from before the foundation of the world. But if we look at it, there's no mention of salvation at all. It only speaks of the blessings that were made available to those who are in Him. If you read down to verse 13, Paul sums it all up by telling us when these blessings (to be holy and without blame, adoption, inheritance, etc), become available.
Verse 13... "in Him you also trusted, AFTER you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; IN WHOM also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise..."
Verse 3 says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, WHO HAS BLESSED US WITH EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING in the heavenly places IN CHRIST..."
Then in verse 4, Paul proceeds to name the spiritual blessings.
Please keep in mind that when scripture talks about salvation, it will say salvation, saved, everlasting life or eternal life.
Paul uses the words salvation and saved throughout his epistles on a regular basis. He wouldn't suddenly replace the word salvation with other words that have totally different meanings.
I say this because I hear many make claims like, "adoption means salvation!" Or, "to be holy and without blame is the same as salvation!"
These don't mean salvation. They are the result of salvation.
The inheritance, adoption etc are not available to those who are not saved. Those who have not believed the gospel of their salvation are not made holy and without blame before Him in love.
I hope this makes sense. I'm not the best at typing my thoughts but I will do my best if you have any questions.
      Blessings Joshua!

Except that you’re disregarding vs. 37 again. He doesn’t draw all, because it says that All that the father giveth me shall come to me. In case you try to say draw is not the same thing as giveth, I’ll direct you to vs 65 where he reiterates, “that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my father.”
    There are your two qualifiers:
1.) All that the father giveth shall come
2.) No man can come unless given unto him of my father
It is the Father who gives you over to Jesus!

Mr. Pearl: "Those who are willing to be caught in Gods net"?? What fish was ever willing to be caught by a human net? What a silly analogy which seeks to exalt mans will to a place that Scripture never puts it. Jesus: " All that the Father gives to me will come. And I will raise them up at the last day." So the Father's drawing all so therefore all will be raised at the last day? Except the Bible says that most will not be saved but cast into everlasting punishment. The application he asserts onto this text creates a clear contradiction with Scripture elsewhere. Hence it cannot be true because the Bible does not contradict itself.

    • @sheri4673
      @sheri4673 3 года назад +1

It has nothing to do with how a fish responds to getting trapped in a man's fishing net. Jesus Himself trained the Apostles to be "fishers of men." Those were CHRIST'S own Words. The Net is God's Word, some will respond and stay within that Net to Salvation, and others will reject it and turn to the world. Seems like a very good analogy.

I do not have an opinion regarding predestination. It is predestination, that is what I know and I know it because the sovereignty of God ordained that I know it. Lest I boast. Ephesians 2:9.
For no other reason than simply His good pleasure, God chose some for election to Sonship, And others to destruction. He needs no other reason than the sovereignty of His good pleasure. Revelations 4:11.
Everything God does is perfect, with no care whatsoever about your definition of good and evil. Psalms 18:30. God is incapable of evil because everything God does is good. If it is God‘s sovereign will to smash me into the dust of nothingness, then that is good, because, all things work for the betterment of God’s people, all things. Not some things, not half of the things, not even an overwhelming majority of things. All things work to the betterment of God’s people, Every bit of it. Romans 8:28. If I’d be found wicked, that too works to the betterment of God’s people. If I’d be found wrapped in the righteousness of the blood of Christ, that too works to the betterment of God’s people. If I could separate myself from the love of God, then, Paul the apostle would be found as a liar. There is no power found anywhere within the created order that can separate me from the love of God, that would include my choices. Romans 8:31-39.
God is in control of all things, and if you deny this, you deny the sovereignty of God. If you find this hard to comprehend, good, you have found God to be sufficiently ineffable. 2 Corinthians 9:15.
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.” Matthew 10:29
No matter what, God did not give His people a set of principles and then tell them He would deliver them from their enemies and evil once they follow those principles. God delivered His people, by grace, while still in their wickedness, through the Red Sea, and from their enemies, established them, and then gave them principles. God is in control of all things.
He parts the waters and calms the storms. It is HE who has said, “let us go to the other side”. Mark 4:35
It was never based on their choices. The Hebrew people did not choose the exodus and they did not choose the parting of the Red Sea. The disciples did not choose the savior, and the calming of the storm was not based on their choice of attitude.
Yes, a resounding yes, He also controls the storms. Be in awe of God, The Sovereign. Luke 8:22-25; Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:36-41: John 6:16-21.

I have a question. What would you advise a family that attended a Calvinist church for 17 years (pre children-teens.) then the couple realizes, according to scripture, that Calvinism is wrong, unbiblical. There is so much history and rich friendships with the people, BUT the doctrine is completely wrong in their eyes now. It hinders them in many ways. Emotionally difficult, but also no idea where to go instead!

I would like to suggest a presentation of a proper exegesis of John 6 by Dr James White. I think it is most edifying. Also, in John 6:44 I think it’s very important not to insert our tradition into the text. We do not help God draw people. The text says in verse 44 that those who are drawn are raised up on the last day. This is something God does. We simply preach the gospel and leave the results to God. Verse 44 refers to the effectual drawing that only God does. How do I know that? Because the drawing has a effect, those who are drawn by the Father are given to the Son and the end is that the person drawn is raised at the last day.

I noticed you quoted 2 Peter 3:9 at about 5:54. I going to remind you of your strongly voiced reminder: CONTEXT, CONTEXT! In context, do tell...who is Peter’s audience to which the word ‘any’ and ‘all’ are referring? If you’ll read the whole book, it is believers. If you keep on your path you may find yourself as an open theist and then a universalist and who knows what else. Just because Calvin was correct on some issues does not mean you must label yourself a Calvinist. He was fallen like the rest of us created humans, and you’re not beyond errors yourself.

this is essentially that hearing the gospel leads to belief, the hearer therefore repents to God and God puts into the heart faith, ability to believe and trust Christ. It is a simultaneous event. God sees the heart of the hearer and the true desire for salvation is acted upon immediately. Faith is that which is wrought in the soul by the Holy Spirit. Revelation 22:17....who so ever will may come.

Mr. Pearl, I don't think you realize it, but your interpretation of God's Word on this topic makes God out to be UNABLE to save all men. You quote:
"[It is not the will of the Father] 'that any should perish but that all should come to repentance' " 2 Pt. reads:
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
    Context!
The "all" here is, by the context, seen to be constrained by the "us-ward" in the KJV, or "toward us" in the NKJV.
