PLEASE just watch in the order we grew up with first. Don't get fancy. 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, Rogue One. After, then go back & watch in chronological order. I'm convinced that it's best to watch in Release order if you're new to SW (even if it doesn't make sense). Most importantly - ENJOY & hv FUN w/SW!

@@se6369 Except the prequels and sequels have actually somewhat RUINED the fav childhood films for millions of people, like me (i honestly wish i could go back in time and never watch those 6 films).
Plus there's several plot points, in the sequels and (especially) prequels that stupidly don't jive up with what the plot was in the OG trilogy.
She should watch it in the order that made it so popular, to get the authentic Star Wars experience....I honestly would've HATED SW if i'd started watching in 1997 with episode 1, and i would've never seen what i think is the greatest trilogy in cinema history (you only catch lightening in a bottle ONCE...and those 3 films caught it).

Those who watch in chronological order don't get that experience of having it all come together in the way it was meant to. I've been at this since 1977. Those who didn't get that "ah-hah" moment never will. It seems obvious to watch in chronological order & those that did will never have that "Ah-Hah" experience. We see it in RUclips reactions all the time & it's obvious, regardless of what George Lucas says.

5:16 Princess Leia’s hairstyle is actually a real hair do worn by Mexican women during their revolution.
Many of the hairstyles, clothes and props from this series actually come real cultures around our world.
    * The Jedi dress like Buddhist monks.
    * The Imperial officers wear uniforms that seem to be inspired by the Nazi Wehrmacht and the Imperial Japanese Army.
    * Darth Vaders helmet is inspired from Samurai helmets from feudal Japan.
    * The Imperial shock troops are called Stormtroopers after the Nazi stormtroopers.
    * The staff that one of the Sand people use against Luke is from an African tribe.
So when people all over the developed world watch a Star Wars movie they are bound to see something that they recognize in their heritage or someone else’s.
Also to help with who is the bad guys, remember this movie came out a year after America celebrated the 200th anniversary of its independence from England. So all of the Imperial officers speak in stuffy British accents and sneer. The rebels speak in a mix of American and British accents.

"The Force will be with you, always."
Fun Fact: The first movie to make over $300 million domestic box office. It was also the first movie to cross $500 million worldwide in its initial release.
Action Star Fact: Stunt doubles were not used for the scene where Luke and Leia swing to safety in the Death Star. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher performed the stunt, shooting it in just one take.
CGI Over Practical Fact: All the CGI was added in the late 90s and NOT part of the original release. I don't mind the changes, except for originally Han Solo (Harrison Ford) shot Greedo (Paul Blake) before the bounty hunter could do anything.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: The weapons the stormtroopers used were essentially the Sterling L2A3 9mm SMG (sub-machine gun), a military weapon developed in the late 1940s in the U.K. and adopted by the British and Canadian Armies in the 1950s. The curved left entry side mounted magazine was removed, and that was as much as it was modified for the movie. The longer sandtrooper weapon was the MG-34 machine gun from Germany.
Location Location Fact: The Tatooine scenes were filmed in Tunisia. There is a town in Tunisia's rural south named Tataouine (Berber for "eyes") and George Lucas liked the name so much, he adopted it for Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) home world. Some of the interiors and the courtyard of Luke's house were filmed in a hotel in Matmata, Tunisia. One can visit this two-star hotel and see some pictures and the painted ceiling of what was used for the Lars' dining room. When Luke goes out of the farm, he appears in a flat deserted area, while the reality, when you get out of the hotel, there are a lot of other houses, small stone hills, and a lot of prickly pear cacti (a variety very common in Tunisia). The skeleton that C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) passes belongs to a Tatooine creature called a Greater Krayt Dragon. This artificial skeleton was left in the Tunisian desert after filming and still lies there. During filming of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (2002), the site was visited by the crew once more and the skeleton was still there.

Also, Han Solo’s blaster was made from a Mauser C96. Also known as “the broom handle gun.” 😂 Made in Germany during the early 20th century and served in both world wars. And Obi-wan’s lightsaber grip in this film was made from a Mk 2 grenade.

One thing that will help you understand the Star Wars series is its old story told throughout all human cultures.
You have a young hero who goes on a quest to save a princess. Obi Wan is an old knight/wizard. Leia is of course a princess. Dorthy Vader is an evil knight. The Death Star is the dark fortress from which the princess must be saved.

A friend of mine's dad who worked for the county roads department and was just a big ol' dumb redneck suddenly wanted to talk to me about Darth Vader and C3-PO. He had a strange fascination with the characters that were behind masks and wasnt certain they were real people. I had difficulty convincing him that there were actors inside those costumes.

Two years later, when _Star Trek: The Motion Picture_ first came to theaters, they had _adopted_ this effect.

    1. IRL Sir Alec Guinness didn't want to play Obi Wan, He thought the entire premise was silly, but his wife talked him into taking it. The rest is history.
    2. This episode of the saga was released first because Lucas felt it was the easiest one to make and provide an outstanding product with the technology they had at the time.
    3. This movie came out way before CGI was available. The scene with Jabba the Hutt, the large critters outside the cantina and the ones being ridden by the stormtroopers are CGI and was put in later with the 25 years anniversary edition.
    4. The BEST way to watch these are in the order they were released. Keep in mind that we had to wait years between episodes. there wasn't any internet or memes like. "No, I am your father" as spoilers.
    5. The scene in the detention center where Han Solo ends up saying "how are you" is a goof on Harrison Ford's part. He forgot his lines. 🤣
    6. In an appearance on Johnny Carson when this came Carrie Fisher said that Chewie is a 300-year-old Wookie.
    7. Obi Wan didn't die. He went into the force.
    8. The smirk and shrug Chewy gives Luke after he scares the little black droid is 🤣
    9. Welcome aboard. You're in for a hell of a ride.

In the 30's, 40's and 50's every movie theater showed serials. These were continuing stories told in 15 to 2o minute segments spread over many weeks. They kept the audience coming back to see the rest of the story. That is what these movies are supposed to be like.

The Force is mysterious, and it's supposed to be. The more it's explained the less interesting it becomes. Basically, all the life in the galaxy gives off an energy which shines everywhere, unseen but felt by certain people. They can not only use it to perform magic tricks (mind control, choking, survive death) but can feel that it's somehow alive and aware.
Not everyone can use the Force, you're born with it or you aren't. If you are, you can train to use it, if you're not then you'll never be able to.

The problem wasn't a lack of choreography.
The problem was a lack of technology.
In order to make those lightsabers back when Hollywood didn't have computers, they had to be hand drawn.
    Yep.
They filmed these two actors swinging white sticks at each other.
Then some artist looked at every frame, thousands of frames in total, and drew a little blue line and a little red line on each frame.
    By hand.
The problem was, if they swing their white sticks too fast, the camera will catch blurry motion.
Instead of a little white line on the frame, it will be a much wider blurry line.
No artist could remove that blur.
So the actors were told to move their sticks slowly so the artist could draw the red and blue lightsabers without any white blur around them.

tynia, they explain the force more in the next movie, you can watch the Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978 before you go to the next movie, because it takes place in between this movie and the next. the force is like a field of mystical energy that people tap into , i think, some custom action figure maker made an action figure of the force, and they just had an empty bubble on a backing board with a picture of outer space behind it., in the late 1970s and early 1980s, figures of star wars characters were the hottest toys, they were on backing boards with photos from the movie, so in the toy store, it would be a wall of little photos from the movie, which looked cool and each photo was next to it's action figure , a little 3.75 inch tall version of that character.

Welcome to the world of Star Wars.
I will give some information for a better understanding of the universe.
The Empire is a huge state that includes many planets and extends to most of the known galaxy, not counting some of the systems at the far edge. Initially, the empire was a constitutional monarchy, whose political affairs were governed not only by the emperor, but also by the senate, which includes a representative from each planet belonging to the empire, but after the creation of the Death Star, the senate was dissolved and power finally passed into the hands of the Emperor. Initially, the Empire was a galactic republic, but as a result of a series of events, the Lord of the Sith came to power, who proclaimed himself emperor (you will learn more about this in the prequels)
Now about the structure of the Force, in this period of time, the two most powerful and well-known orders of forseusers are the Sith and the Jedi, they came from one ancient order of force users who served both its aspects - the Dark and the Light side. The dark and light side of the force are not the good and evil side, they represent two different currents of force and were named by members of the very first order in honor of the two moons that were satellites of the planet where this order was based, one was made of white stone, the other of black. This ancient order practiced a balance between the sides, the light one is more calm and creative, the dark one is more emotional and destructive. But over time, this order banned the study of the dark side of the force and focused on the light side, becoming the Jedi Order from the time. Once there was a split within the order and some members of the supreme Council were exiled to unknown regions of the galaxy because of the desire to study the dark side of the force. These fallen Jedi found the planet Korriban (or Morraband), where a humanoid undeveloped red-skinned race lived, which had a huge connection with the dark side. The fallen Jedi quickly subdued this race, which called itself the Sith, after which they named themselves the Sith Lords, creating a new order of force users, which was focused only on the dark side. With the passage of time, several major wars occurred between the newly created Sith Empire and the Old Republic, which included the Jedi as guardians of peace and justice. As a result, the Sith were almost destroyed several times, losing wars due to constant betrayals and internecine power struggles. But then a Sith lord was born, named Darth Bane, he created the rule of two, the rule that there can only be two Sith master and apprentice, a master to embody power, apprentice to reach for this power. When an apprentice becomes more powerful than a master, he kills him and takes his place, taking a new apprentice, the Sith were forced to go underground, but began to develop thanks to this. Darth Bane, after creating this rule, killed all the remaining Sith, becoming a master and taking a girl as an apprentice, who eventually killed him and, taking his place, continued the path of the Rule of Two.
Sith and Jedi have opposite ideologies and philosophies, and most importantly - an attitude to the Force, Jedi serve the force, cutting themselves off from everything mundane, they are forbidden to take wives or husbands, have children, have property, nothing should cause affection and emotions and distract from serving the Force. Emotions lead to the dark side of the force, so the Sith raise their emotions to the absolute, they feed on them, most often hatred and rage, as one of the most powerful emotions, but also any other, if the Jedi serve the force like monks, then the Sith use the force to get what they want. Even the powers of the dark side and the light side are different, the light side is more creative and protective (force push, mind deception), when the dark side is more destructive and aggressive (force choke, force lightning)
Now to the more relevant:) At the moment, thanks to political intrigues, the Sith lord Darth Sidious gained power over the galaxy, after which, with the help of his apprentice Darth Vader, he almost destroyed the Jedi Order, the Jedi are forced to hide without having contact with each other in the hope of someday being able to fight back.
Oh yes, well, the names of the Sith Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, etc. are not names given at birth, they receive them when they join the order, the prefix Darth literally means Lord in the language of the Sith.
    The code of the sith
Peace is a lie. There is only Passion.
    Through Passion, I gain Strength.
    Through Strength, I gain Power.
    Through Power, I gain Victory.
Through Victory my chains are Broken.
    The Force shall free me
    The code of the Jedi
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

30:00 "Luke is too young for the princess. She looks a tad bit older."
Well, I happen to know that Luke is actually a tad bit older in this story.
As for the actors, Mark Hammill is 5 years older than Carrie Fisher.
She was 20 when they filmed this, pretty much exactly the age the Princess should be, but he was 25 during filming which is older than Luke is supposed to be.

Its far better than the actual movie fight but you might need to watch episode 1-3 to have some context to understand some lines at the end of it. It's called Starwars sc 38 reimagined.

When I seen Star Wars in the theatre way back in 77 & the scrolling tex burst on the screen with episode IV, I said "what happened to episodes I, II & III,?" only took 20 years to find out.. there are many theories of why the creator George Lucas made the Star Wars saga in the order he did.
One is he didn't think many people would go to the theatre to see a movie about a little kid (Anican Skywalker) another is he wanted to wait for the CGI to get better for the carictor JaJa Binks. In episode 1. Another is that Mr Lucas had 6 scripts written, sat on the floor tossed all 6 up with eyes closed, reached out & touched one & that was the one he did first episode IV .. Only George Lucas could say which is true.
No you have started the jerny enjoy. Don't forget Solo a star wars story & episodes VII, VII & IX.. I'm 65 & recon they are all GREAT 😊

Imagine when this first came out. It was unlike ANYTHING that had ever been done before. It blew the world away. Don't get me wrong. 2001: A Space Odyssey was better in many ways and much earlier. But it was more cerebral and less exciting. This grabs you and keeps you going with adrenaline the whole time and revolutionized special effects...except for 2001.
Shipping in this franchise has its dangers. No further comment.
This movie was heavily derived from an Akira Kurosawa samurai movie called "Hidden Fortress." Many of the same characters and SIMILAR plot in many ways. But of course a samurai movie and a space movie will diverge.
This movie makes a LOT more sense after watching Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. But take them in release order.

It's not computer-generated graphics, it's models ... except George Lucas fiddled with the films and added some CGI much later. Most of the changes were unnecessary and did not make things better. He also fiddled with some of the scenes, again unnecessarily.
The light-sabre fight between Kenobi and Vader was based on Aikido, which is why it looks slow. They changed it up.

Almost 200 comments so somebody probably already explained what the Force is, but here goes - no spoilers.
When George Lucas was interviewed about this movie, he called Jedi (Old Ben Kenobi, for example, and also Darth Vader) "magical space wizards".
Right out of the mouth of the guy who invented this wonderful galaxy, far far away.
    Wizards use magic, right?
Jedi (magical space wizards) use the Force.
So that means the Force is magic.
    Quite literally.
Sure, Old Ben said stuff about an energy field that surrounds all living things and binds us together.
That doesn't explain using magical brain waves to make those Storm Troopers let them go.
That kind of stuff is magic, no matter what word is used: Magic, Wizardry, Sorcery, Juju, The Force, take your pick.
    What can the Force do?
To be honest, whatever the writer thinks of, that's what the Force can do.
In this movie, it doesn't do much. A mind trick, Ben and Vader "sense" each other, Luke shoots a target. Not much.
Some might say it was The Force that magically brought R2-D2 directly to Luke, or that then brought Luke directly to Leia, etc.
That's a better explanation than everybody just gets lucky over and over and over.
As the years went buy, more and more movies, comics, novels, and cartoons were created by more and more authors and the powers that Jedi can use with the Force just keep getting more and more awesome.
    Not for any good reason.
But just because the writers wanted THEIR magical space wizard to be more awesome than the other magical space wizards that came before.
    Don't get me wrong.
I love Star Wars and The Force.
But I'll call it what it is: unlimited and undefined Space Magic that the writers can use any way they want to let us see cool stuff and to move the plot along.
If you want more details of what the people in that galaxy know about the Force (I mean, they don't know they are in a movie, right), you'll just have to watch more Star Wars movies.
    I hope you do!

There's this old joke that the Force is like duct tape. It has a _light_ side and a _dark_ side and binds the _Universe_ together.
But the Jedi faith is based on a religion with which we tend not to be very familiar, in the US, called Taoism (pronounced 'Daoism'). Like _anything_ pertaining to religion, the vast majority of it is defined in _incredibly_ vague terms.
The Force is like the Tao, except the Tao's existence is a matter of ongoing _discussion,_ while in the _Star Wars_ canon, the existence of the Force is concretely _demonstrable._ Whether or not one has the Force depends on the precise circumstances of one's conception, but it's not enough to _have_ it. One must also be trained to _use_ it. It has included things like telekinesis, subconscious telepathy, the ability to see a few seconds into the future and the ability to confirm statements with one's _feelings._
Obi-Wan, Darth Vader and Luke each _have_ the Force, but Obi-Wan and Darth are both trained to _use_ it, and so can _detect_ each other, while Darth is _unable_ to detect Luke.

She is also the senator for her planet, representing Alderaan in the imperial Senate as her father did before her. So they officially work for the evil empire, but are secretly helping the rebels by giving them money, weapons and information.
That’s why she tried to pull rank on Vader when he busted her taking the Death Star plans at the beginning, but he wasn’t buying it.

Keep in mind that while most of the original effects are still in the film, some of the visual effects have been updated with newer technology over the years. The original movie was not expected to be a success so the budget was not very big. Once it became a hit, George Lucas was able to get more money for the subsequent films. Some of the original visual effects were looking kind of dodgy, so he wanted to go back and fix them for the 20th anniversary re-release. The next one has had very few changes made to it.

    • @SchulzEricT
      @SchulzEricT 11 месяцев назад +2

Ironically, the "fixes" made them more dated than the original effects. Most were bad visually, some were bad from a story-telling perspective, some were bad from a character development perspective.
No idea why he didn't leave well enough alone. (There's little stuff that, like... whatever. Like the Mos Eisley establishing shots, ditto the background - windows - on Cloud City, but overall it was good as is. Han calling Jabba "a wonderful human being" is... it's dumb.)

    • @oneironaut420

@@SchulzEricT I dunno, some of those old effects were not much better. That blob under the landspeeder to hide the wheels come to mind. And some things go unnoticed like the explosion rings and the fighter shots during the Death Star battle, which you never really hear people complain about.

The added effects/scenes for the death star battle in the first movie were a big improvement I think. I also really like the new death star explosion effects. Worst stuff was Han Solo/ Greedo edited scene and that horrible musical added to Return of the Jedi at Jabbas palace. I didn't like the changed music/ scene at end of ROTJ either but it wasn't horrible. I kinda like the added Jabba scene in the first movie but visually Jabba doesn't look very good. Even the updated version of Jabba in that scene doesn't look quit right. Looks better than the first try but still looks off. That's one of my biggest issues with the whole thing. Lucas just keeps adding or changing stuff as tome goes by. How many times us he gonna update it? It just gets worse every time he messes with it I think. Or at the very least he should release the originalnal versions so people can choose what version they want.

The franchise is not that complicated. There are three trilogies. Each trilogy climaxes with its third film. Start with the original trilogy which fits into the middle of the three trilogies. Rogue One fits between prequel and original trilogy.
The franchise has some exciting significance to our culture. It takes human history (democracies becoming dictatorships) and putting it into an homage to the 1930s and 40s sci-fi movie serials. The opening text crawl and scene transitions mimic Flash Gordon.
In this franchise, you can see resemblances to Dune, The Hidden Fortress and the Foundation book series.
