  • Here I am showing how to use Kosoto Gari to break up your opponent, creating space for a nice Harai Goshi. When doing this technique, be sure to stop Uke's momentum going backwards, and bring him towards you to finish the harai goshi. This is especially good when against a side-on judoka. Like this! I see that left hand grip, keeping it pulled when tori attacks kosoto will help keep uke's right foot forward a bit as he dodges initial attack by pulling his left foot back. this can help entry for the harai, as well tori needs to close the gap, stay close, and get his grip around uke's waste cinched down.

    Sensei Sampson ...
    Can underhook version of harai goshi ... gi or no gi ... works against a very taller opponent?
    Thanks

    • @SampsonJudo
      @SampsonJudo  6 лет назад

      Hi Mirko, Yes it could work. If they are much taller you will probably find yourself holding closer to their belt rather than underhooking their shoulder, as aiming for under the shoulder on a much taller opponent may overextend you and leave you unbalanced.

      Sampson Judo
      I listen that from this position (underhook gi or no gi) a taller opponent is more vulnerable to o goshi but for me it requires more strenght if the taller opponent is heavier too ... i see harai goshi ... from uki goshi grip ... that works in this way ...againts much taller and heavier ... without a lot of strenght ...gi or no gi ...
      Tell me if i wrong
      Thank you very much sensei ...
