The costumes, the acting, Snow White’s character development and the entirety of the movie really, doesn’t get the credit it truly deserves all because it’s not a Disney movie or it’s not like Frozen. If it had Disney’s name on it, it would be gaining way far more attention, merch and love as Encanto, Mulan, The Lion King, Moana and every other animated film that has come before and after Mirror Mirror. The ballroom scene and I Believe in Love song gets me every single time. What a true masterpiece of a princess film!❤
@@CostumeLiterate, honestly, this retold version of Snow White will always be my favorite. I mean, I enjoy the 1937 animated version, but Mirror Mirror had an authentic and brilliant design and development with the characters. Heck, Snow White and the Huntsman nor Disney’s live-action remake will never hold a candle nor a place in my heart to this gorgeous masterpiece of a movie.
Nobody’s pointed this out, but it’s a small but clever detail in the ball scene in both Snow White and Clementianna’s dresses. Snow White is wearing a white swan dress with huge wings while Clementianna is wearing a red peacock dress with the tail feathers. In Greek mythology, the swan is the bird of Apollo, god of light, music, medicine and archery. Two swans were used to carry his chariot wherever he wished in the myths. Meanwhile, the peacock is the represented bird of Hera, queen of the gods, and when Leto, mother of Artemis and Apollo, became pregnant, she wouldn’t stop at nothing at hunting down Leto and killing her, but failed to do so when she found out the twins were alive. My theory on the dresses is that they’re both a metaphor of some sort, like maybe Snow is Apollo trying to fly away from her being held too long in the castle while Clementianna is somewhat Hera, jealous of by both Snow’s beauty and inheritance of the throne.
@@CostumeLiterate, even I didn’t know that small detail until around 11 years later. I was obsessed with the cinematography and costumes when I a child. No other live-action Disney never has or ever will capture my attention and place in my heart the same way Mirror Mirror did when I was young.
@@Beanie-Inkling2749, this theory makes sense since the beast has more of a snake-like structure at its bottom-half. In one of the myths, Apollo wanted to avenge the hounding of his mother, Leto by killing the large snake known as Python. Where the snake lived at the time was the same place before the Oracle of Delphi was built there, Apollo intimated the snake by asking if it hounded Leto while she was pregnant with him and his sister, Artemis. The snake not only didn’t reply, but battled him to the death until Apollo shot him with his fiery arrows in the Python’s eye. What Apollo did with its remains, he turned it into the place that’s now known as the Oracle of Delphi. I can say the battle between the beast and Snow White is a reference back to the myth of Apollo. The beast being the Python, Snow White is Apollo, Prince Alcott is somewhat like Artemis, the dwarves being equivalent like the Muses and Clementianna is much like Hera, noting her jealousy on Snow White and doing whatever she can to get what she wants.
Okay, I must watch this film. I've never been a "omg I want that outfit" person with movies like this (or most movies tbh), but I am INSPIRED!! I love ridiculous costumes and this movie is full of them Also, is this like, the only movie that Sean Bean's character doesn't die in XD
I love your analysis. I’ve seen Mirror Mirror twice. Yet, I find it a surprisingly underrated piece of pure cinema. I initially thought it would be some kind of creative joke that Hollywood has developed quite a habit for in recent years. Guess I was wrong!
WoW!! that was great!! I love costumes but I would not have seen the meaning of the colors in the wardrobe like that. You nailed it!!! I saw it once you explained it!
Thankyou for this video! It's so inspiring! It's easy to get overwhelmed and frustrated when garments don't turn out, watching this brightened my day so much! It restored my faith! reminded what it's all about
I loved this analysis! I found the acting and script horrendous haha even though I'm a fan of each of those individual actors. But I watched mostly for the costumes anyway--so sumptuous!
Snow White yellow coat symbolises strength hopeful to see the new world and the white symbolise her purity and the black and blue symbolise her her bravery and warriorship the wedding dress blue is a symbol of a right passage and her new life a new bravery and a new hope

I think of Mirror Mirror as more on Encanto and Moana’s level of pure surprise excellence
@, for me, it’s got the same level of comedy and heart as Emperor’s New Groove and Princess and the Frog.❤️
@@SwanWarriorPrince27 I’m a bigger fan of Emperor’s New Groove then Princess And The Frog
@, Princess and the Frog was and is one of my childhood favorites growing up.
Deserves more attention than it should be getting!🐸👸🏽❤️
@@SwanWarriorPrince27 So should Brother Bear
i LOOVEEE the blue+orange gown, that has been stuck in my mind ever since the yr it was released
I love this! Silly movies need costume love too! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Yes! In my opinion, most movies have an analysis like this just waiting to be written for them:)

I adore the costumes in this particularly snows first dress. Love this film particularly lily collins's performance as Snow x loved the video
Lily collins is just so beautiful
Someone out of a beautiful painting

Almost all movies of this director have this aesthetic
