I love this colorful painting. Your Wrens are going nuts outside. Do you put bird food out? You are relaxing, your paintings are beautiful. I didn't catch what you said near the end, about" how the painting would be good as a" -------cover? What cover? A Journal? Yep, it's perfect for that! Had a great time watching and listening and giggling at some things you say--"Oh, it doesn't matter," "Nope, Can't do that" and the lambs were either hungry or wanting your attention. Little baby faces--aaawww. Quite a circus out there--hahaha. So cute.
Hi Jane, sorry for the long wait for a reply, just getting through the comments now! Yes, we feed the birds all year to keep them happy and chirpy! Hi Dianne. I’ve been painting with you for several years now and really enjoyed it it. I’ve recently been diagnosed with cancer and am undergoing chemotherapy. Your videos are a welcome diversion. Thank you for posting your art
Omg best quote of the video, talking about Old Holland paints: “cheap and intense…like me!” 😂🤣😂 Love your wry sense of humor, and this looks like a fun and relaxing project. Thanks Diane!
I’m so glad the RUclips algorithm recommended your video. I sit here and watch you paint and I am in awe because I have crippling perfection syndrome lol. When I paint I have this need to want it to be perfect but this is a great exercise to do to rid myself of that burden so, I thank you. I am off to go paint, keep an open mind and just let go ♥️

This was fascinating to watch the development of this painting. I have been stuck in only doing realism for so long, then tried to lean towards whimsy. But THIS takes my thoughts to a whole new level! You are truly amazing! I can’t wait to see what evolves from my pallet next. Definitely going to try this. You are a great artist and a great teacher. I am so happy to find something new every day. I may even start a daily whimsical challenge for myself. One year of Whimsy! I am currently doing a personal daily Zen Doodle one year challenge, started last August. I’m 75, and never get bored! So much paint and so little time…. If I run out, I’ll get more!😊
Hi Linda, thanks so much for your lovely message. I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos and finding them entertaining! Thank you Diane once again for sharing your gift with us! I agree with another commenter here, I love to hear the sheep and birds in the background. It makes for a very calming video!
I love Your vidoes .... I have Learned so much..every thing does have to be so Perfect ... I struggle with that ... but when i let that go i enjoy painting so much .... Thank you Diane you are the best .... 💯
Treated myself to the " 365 days" books you mentioned..... getting lost in them will be more fun than reading the newspaper, that's for sure! Thanks for the tip, and of course for the lovely lesson
Hi Diane...another lovely "wallpaper design". The white gel pen adds so much. I like when you add pazzaz with your dip pen and ink, too. A glue book IS basically a scrapbook, just a newer name that caught on. Like "junk journal". I made journals for three straight years. I call them "theme" journals, i.e., botanical or vintage, etc. There are so many digitals on etsy, with a theme I like; that gets the juices flowing. I don't use junk mail. I was spending all my time gessoing everything. I'm so happy you have started making journals, they are so rewarding. You make something beautiful, then you get to go back in it and play some more! Yours are very nice. Hope you share more. Cas
At first glance of the end product, I loved it! Then I watched it and so enjoyed it - the instruction, the commentary and life in the background! And I found that I rather like it even before the embellishment. I'm definitely going to loosen up and fill a (smallish) page today with "blobs of color," embellishing or not to be determined!❤
Yes Tracy it was very much a difficult decision as to whether or not to carry on with inkwork. I liked it unembellished too. But sometimes I like to push things to the limit! I can always do another one without the ink! Thanks so much for your comments and very glad that you enjoyed the video!
I love this. It's so cheerful and free. I ordered the book! Thank you for telling us about it, Diane. It should be excellent for giving much-needed prompts.
Diane. It’s 3am and I caught this beautiful flower painting video. I wanted to do something along with you-but -…I took what was at hand and went to work. Highlighters, markers, colored pens. I enjoyed my “paint “ along with you! Thanks
Hi Diane and Tamsin, I love this tutorial and the sweet background music is delightful! I just followed along painting with you Diane and I can't believe how successful I was. I've learned so much from you and it's really given me a great deal of confidence. I painted this little card for a family member who loves cats. I found a cat journal for her from a vintage store, so I'm going to tuck this card inside, along with a hand-painted bookmark (something else I've learned from you) which I know she'll appreciate. I love painting these cute little guys. Thank you!
Hi Carolyn, thanks so much for your message. So glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you found in relaxing. What a lovely idea about the journal, I'm sure your family will love it! Take care and keep well!
So happy you popped up on my RUclips feed. These days I do art journals, but I’ve never been good with watercolor or nature. Thank you for this inspiring video. I have now subscribed.
Diane, I bought one of those 365 days art books to me from me for Christmas. Based on you recommending it. It looks like a great fun way to just spend a few moments a day doing what I love. My arthritic hands make it difficult to much. So very much looking forward to playing. I am a self-proclaimed art store junkie so seeing you experiment with different 'tools of the trade' are a joy. Please keep sharing!
Another wonderful surprise in the end, these beautiful flowers!!! Things like this really help with my painting skills and I thank you so much for being the amazing teacher that you are. I’ve painted right along with you (of course pausing involved) and mine turned out pretty good 😊 I wondered the same thing you did about the glue books. The only difference I can tell is a junk journal really doesn’t involve painting (which I do though in mine) a art journal, well that’s where our artwork is involved maybe no embellishments) now a glue book as far as I can tell it’s strictly just glueing pictures, embellishing and what….no painting, not much art at all but there are some glue books I’ve seen On here that are beautiful!!! So many books in this crafting world nowadays. When I was young paper dolls was about it for me. I also remember junk and art journals were another form of what I’d call scrap booking up scaled….anyway, just my take on it all. Again thanks for the wonderful video it was so much fun 😊💜🎨
Hi Tamy thanks so much for your interesting comments. I couldn't agree more! I had those paper dolls with their dresses too, loved them! Books were so precious to me when I was a child, we literally only possessed three books in our house (apart from my own books which came from my monthly book club) - they were "How to Make Friends and Iinfluence People", "Peyton Place" and the bible! So the library was my best friend after I'd read those! Later I had scrapbooks but I used it to put photos of my kids in - no digital records in those days!
Yes, it's a problem. Nice to have sunshine, but it's the sheep. We have been having to feed them hay since April. Unheard of. And the farmers here with cows are feeding hay - unheard of in the summer. Look at the prices rise!!!!!!
A junk journal to me... the pages are make up of things you receive in the mail... advertisements .. envelopes, things that would normally get thrown away.. You bind those together and thats what you create on.. A glue books consists almost solely of collage... Some people just really enjoy cutting out images and gluing them down.. they might add some embellishments but really its just cut out/glue and stick.. Now that i think about it.. i think mine is a hybrid of them all.. lol I use a book that was destined to be thrown away.. tear out a few pages to make room for what i add... glue some pages together to make them sturdier.. I make pockets and windows and whatever comes to mind.. I use stencils, stamps , ink, paint for the backgrounds, then cutout magazine images for the main features.. Then i embellish it within an inch of its life.. because i can..lol glitter, magazine images are wonderful to paint over.. (for example a red dress becomes blue with a pattern.. (acrylic paint) etc.. I use Glossy Accents to make some things super shiney and stand out while keeping some things matte.. My Bee Book i've been putting 'be' words.. Be Kind... Be Creative.. etc.. Great fun.. Sorry too many comments and too long.. Enjoy your book no matter what its called.. Hugs! deb
Such a fun and colorful painting. I love learning to use different mediums together, really brings the painting together. Always learning something new from my guru! Hope you are staying cool. Blessings, Denise xoxoxo
@@DianeAntoneStudio Thank you, you always lift my mood, your whole attitude to life and painting is wonderful ☺️ I have been painting today no little thanks to you xx
Ohhh lovely 💜 they do look easy to paint, my sister gave me some new brushes yesterday and this one will be my morning project tomorrow, so I can test out my new brushes. Thank you Diane 🌸💜
Thank you so much for all your wonderful ideas. I don’t consider myself very creative, so it’s nice to have suggestions. Also, thanks for helping me to loosen up about painting. Experimenting with paints has always felt scary to me - what if I wasted paint or paper? What if it was awful? Funny thing is, I almost like the ‘awful’ paintings more because I feel much more free to experiment and play. Most of the time I end up liking those paintings the most! 😊
Hi! And peaceful day to you 🐦 just dropped in to see if I could get some flowers to help me for what I'm working on at the moment! And like magic here you are just popped up right off with exactly what a needed. You are priceless 🌸
Oh yes, I remember the Stampede! Often the best weather of the summer isn't it! All those poor sweating horses! Yeehaw! (I remember the Stampede breakfasts so well - I had no idea you could eat bacon and sausages with maple syrup until my first Stampede breakfast at Office Depot!!!!!)
Glue book? Sounds like re inventing the wheel to me. Enjoyed watching and listening to this, your calm demeanour gave me some relaxation and headspace in what is currently quite a heavy emotional time. Thank you🙂
After I squeeze the life out of that tube, I take a pair of shears and cut off the very bottom of the tube and you can open it upside down and get yet a bit more paint out of the tube❤️🔥👍🏻🙏🏻
Oh yes, I did consider that but it was too much effort that time for a little bit of paint. But I might fish the tube out of the garbage tomorrow and see if I can extract anything!
I just finished the video all the way through and it occurred to me that i would love to see side by side comparisons of it done in white pen compared to black pen. But thats alot of work .. lol I also thought how important it is to leave some flowers with out the details of the pen.. for example .. how the yellow flowers were done in the upper right hand corner.. that particular bunch of flowers really appeals to my eye.. Do you notice that too ? thats its best not to quite do them all? Hugs! deb
So many possibilities in that kind of painting, it's just a fun piece. I have started to make a copy of the original and do the embellishments on there and see what it looks like before launching into the original!
I am new to your channel, and new to watercolors. I love your videos and your style! Thank you so much for doing this. For a beginner like me, could you suggest perhaps 6-8 tube colors to invest in, to begin with? Sad to admit I've started with just a tray of average paints.
Hi Debra, I would suggest you start with one of these. First, a Winsor and Newton Cotman quality paints. $37 for a dozen colors including all the ones you must have plus a couple of extras. I suggest tubes here, but pans are available too in the same brand. Really good value. amzn.to/3DqsWKk Alternatively I could recommend this set by Grumbacher amzn.to/3DsEHQg which is also very good for your needs. Either of these sets will enable you to paint anything you want. Hope this helps! (PS don't forget a couple of GOOD brushes and some 140lb cold press watercolor paper, maybe by Strathmore or Bee.)
Dear Diane, thank you for this video I enjoyed it. And yes .... what is the difference between a glue book - bullet journal - art journal or an altered book? They say no rules. So I do everything in 1 book, paint drawing paste writing etc etc 😂😂 I call it "my personal everything book. Love from the Netherlands 🖌️🎨✏️✂️
Hi Baukje, I agree totally with you! I think I will be doing a little bit of this, a little bit of that, in my journal! I haven't started writing in it yet but I'm leaving spaces for that in the future! How do you say "personal everything book" in Dutch?
Thanks so much I'm going to order the book! I just received my order for the poetique pens, I got the 48 set and I love them, haven't actually used them yet, just a bit of swatching .
I love your paintings. I’m new to watercolor and have been practicing for 9 months. You mentioned something about draw well Japanese brushes. What’s the exact name and how do I find them?
Hi Betty and welcome to the world of watercolor! Here’s the info you need: Drawell brushes. I get the brushes which are made by this manufacturer, "Drawell" brushes in Japan. They are very inexpensive, and if you order several the postage isn't too bad, they still work out at a good price. The ones I use are Golden Nylon Series 11-2, and I use mostly sizes 7or 9 and 10 and 13. I also use the Maestro ones, Series 778, and I have sizes 3, 5 and 7 for more detailed work as they have a good point, and larger ones for more general work. I do recommend them. Here's the website. www.drawell.co.jp/english/product.html The owner is a very friendly and polite Japanese gentleman. If you email him he will send you a pricelist in dollars.

I'm going to try this tomorrow. So lovely!
Love all your art and especially how simple and relaxed you paint.
Ohhh lovely 💜 they do look easy to paint, my sister gave me some new brushes yesterday and this one will be my morning project tomorrow, so I can test out my new brushes.
Thank you Diane 🌸💜
Oh, have loads of fun Maria! This is truly the easiest flower painting I ever did!!
So beautiful 😍
Thank you! 😊
This was a lot of fun to paint😊😊😊
Thanks so much!
Another fun video Diane. I loved watching how this painting progressed. Thanks again.😊
Glad you enjoyed it Kim, it was fun to do!
You are so welcome! It's funny like that, isn't it!
Excellent
Love this ❤you are truly gifted😊
Thank you so much!
Very pretty!
I’ve got paint coming on Saturday. Deal on Amazon! Yippee 👏
Nice!!
Very pretty Diane,I'll give this a go tomorrow morning. Thanks for sharing❤

It really is!
Beautiful!
I really liked this, thank you!
love it. May try it sometimes.
Please do!
What a great way to spend a hot, sticky afternoon (we have a heatwave in the UK too) it looks really pretty 😍
I live in Arizona so every summer day is HOT!!!! XOXOJANE
But Very very dry.
So hot in the USA also...autumn is a beautiful time of year but I hate to see the kids go back to school.
This is great..love the all over design…hot in Calgary this week..usually is when the Stampede is on
Oh yes, I remember the Stampede! Often the best weather of the summer isn't it! All those poor sweating horses! Yeehaw! (I remember the Stampede breakfasts so well - I had no idea you could eat bacon and sausages with maple syrup until my first Stampede breakfast at Office Depot!!!!!)
Great! X
Wow....
I just subscribed to your channel, as I just found you. I think I can learn from you. Thank you
Thanks Debbie, and welcome to the channel!!
Am new to your channel. Absolutely loved watching this and totally achievable as a beginner. Thank u 💕
A warm welcome to the channel and wishing you a wonderful painting journey!
You never let me down! A question, though. Are you on SkillShare? I can’t find you there but I would definitely “Follow” you.
I am laughing out loud here by myself…..aside from puzzled cats….
I, too, are cheap and intense! 😁❤️. Love the lesson too!❤️

So fun.

Glue book? Sounds like re inventing the wheel to me.
Enjoyed watching and listening to this, your calm demeanour gave me some relaxation and headspace in what is currently quite a heavy emotional time.
Thank you🙂
So glad you enjoyed the video Julia and wishing you all the best for improvement in your difficult time xx
So beautiful love your videos 😊💗exquisite
Thanks Kearie, so glad you are enjoying them!
@@DianeAntoneStudio Thank you! The Winsor and Newton Cotman are in my Amazon cart now :)
@@DianeAntoneStudio persoonlijk alles boek ☺️💕
Hi Diane, I was wondering about the paper in the book, is it good for watercolor and water mediums? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent!
Actually it’s not bad. Fine for everything and even watercolor if you use it lightly and with little water.
Here’s the info you need:
Drawell brushes.
@@DianeAntoneStudio Thank you so much!!
You make me laugh. I don't mean that in a bad way.
"Cheap and intense".
I belly laughed. Couldn't help myself.
Thanks Cathy!
