Notes from a N00b: I don't own this platform because I don't have confidence that I can handle it. This video makes me believe that perhaps I can handle it. Thank you for this work, from a complete DCS N00b.
There’s no module that you should be afraid of, none of them will literally kill you if you press the wrong button ;) They can all be learned but the complex ones just take longer. An F5 is a great starting plane
Good video, you just missed one thing. The trim needs to be set correctly for your loadout before take off or when you rotate and start to climb it can give you a nasty surprise.
@@grimreapers Yeah mate. I didnt mean this in like a bad way. More jokingly if you know what I mean. Genuinely sorry if it seemed that way, I know that you cant tell tones and stuff over the internet so, my bad!
@@grimreapers I"m finding it helpful. I see why I was struggling in the cold start training to get the engines to actually start. It is valuable, please leave it as is. Thank you!
I bought this module not realizing what i was getting myself into. I love watching the Grim Reapers and this is going to be very helpful in putting that $30 to use.
I dunno which version of F5 comes to my airport, but when we airstart them we only start no.2 engine, then the pilot can use the bleed air to start the no.1. I kept thinking I was missing something but in the DCS module you have to use the airstart on both engines. The T-38 is the one we have to go in and manually switch over the valve to direct air into the other engine. Either way, pretty fun little jet. Its nice to fly one in the sim for a change, since I'm always seeing them in person as ground crew. Maybe someday I can fly the real thing!
"damaged my dampeners... it was very hard to fly after that", hmm... that doesn't sound like a thing lol. Thanks to the Sherman guy for decent knowledge. ".. roger Roger roger. Roger." xD .................. roger.
I was thinking an interesting video would be an ACM (air combat maneuvering) video with some of the best pilots of each plane showing strengths and weaknesses and best maneuvers for them. Like the F-5 is a great agile dogfighter, while something like the Mig-21 is better for flying in and away with it's speed for the most part. Also, first lesson being one of Cap's biggest peeves: Drop the bags and change fuel flow. :D
Engine anti-ice does not heat the engine, it heats the intake of the nacelles. Generally high pressure bleed air is used to heat engine nacelles and in every jet I have ever flown it has a limitation when the temperature is above 10C. When bleed air is used it will rob performance from your engines, so expect a decrease in performance. If they’re electric, then no worry about the decrease, but you’ll still likely have a limitation. Pitot heat is generally a runway lineup item, unless the activation of the pitot heat is activated by the squat switch. I don’t know about fighters, since they will spend quite a bit of time at low altitude, pitot heat may not always be required to be on, but generally they are not turned on until takeoff on every jet I’ve flown. Here’s the general rule to follow, if it’s 10C or below and visible moisture, pitot and engine heats need to be on. But don’t have those engine heats on unless you need them, or you’ll lose power.
Amazing video. I only discovered you guys recently but you rekindled my love for DCS world and flight simulators. If I ever grab one of the new modules I'll absolutely be referring to these to help me learn the basics. I'm sure you guys are just as excited for the F-18 as I am.
I installed DCS cause of you guys all i need is a joystick and how are you in that sort of mode where you are clicking around in the cockpit? I'm a newbie with only 4 hours xD

@Grim Reapers. Thanks for this video; very helpful. I just picked up the F5 in the sale and I had noticed on the right panel it does have IFF, but do I presume its unimplemented at this time? I had half expected you to cover it in this video otherwise. Or do you have another video to cover it? Cheers guys.
Nice. I need to have a good long look through your education bit. I'm persisting with the Mig-29 at the moment. Would it be possible to give that some love? I don't know how useful it would be to do one at this minute but there was an option to set the HDD and the HUD to show different images so you could have the HDD on navigation for instance which I liked. Since 2.5 this seems to have disappeared from the Mig-29 but was still available in the Su-27. It now appears to have moved in both since an update on Friday. I need to have another hunt. Any ideas as I've seen you (Cap) fly it from time to time. I understand if now's not a good time but it's frustrating me a bit at the moment and it might be simply a woods and trees thing as well. Anyway keep up the good work your channel is helping me out a lot; and keeping me entertained. :-D
The mig-29 currently does not have a finished flight model, hence why I haven't done any educational type vids on it. As soon s the model is sorted I will do something. Thanks
OK thanks for the reply. Yeah I've been on the DCS forum looking too and I've seen some posts about the flight model. That and things changing since I've upgraded to 2.5 has me frustrated because the usability of the Mig-29 is going backwards. I'm already in agreement with you that now does not seem the best time for anything Mig-29 related but here's hoping that will change soon. I have FC3 so I can move over to other aircraft but as said in Red Dwarf, 'I'd go wi Betty but I'd be thinking o Wilma.' :-P I have the Ka-50 as well, if you have a member who could do some tutorials on that it'd be cool too. I know I'm asking a lot and being a bit of a pest, but that's because I find your stuff the best. ;-) I'm using your mission builders so I can practise using my weapons against bots. Some stuff is of varying quality but yours is consistently good. Edit: Realised I'd got into poetry too. :-P

Hope you picked up that F5 Bud! It's a dream to fly, once trimmed, lol.

Ah yes, good call.
I love how the guy doing the instructing in these videos always sounds absolutely tired of all this shit.
Well, I have done over 300 tutorial vids... it NEVER ends..
He's just being authentic ;)
i enjoy the fact that only grim reapers could make a 6 minute video into 20 minutes.
I was tempted to re-do this to a modern standard, but if you watch it, it's actually quite a cool vid and I think it should stay.

Grim Reapers I was able to lock a target today for the first time. Didn't end well but it's progress. Look forward to more!
The guy teaching may sound bored but for someone just starting out every fact is gold . My hat goes off to the people who learned it first .

Cross-bleed start, another option for starting #2. Way too cool!

Roger I'll get to work on it.
You should do a training video where you have someone on the ground in Combined arms using laser targeting and someone in an F-5E using GBUs.
We did but the vid data got messed up so no vid. I'll get another one done.
the developers of this sim are HECCTTTICCC

Nothing that sophisticated for the F-5. It was just a heater for the pressure probe just forward of the engine compressor face.

Correct. Not imp.
thanks
So why cant you use the left engine to start the right ? You can do that on other jets .
how do you do this WITHOUT track IR cause I can't look around
press LAlt+c and then use mouse
DCS cameras compendium for you right here! forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114260
Is the F-5E etc. the most successful design currently available on DCS for a noob? Pete.
Get FC3 first. Then F-5
Could you guys use the Wardog skin from Ace Combat 5 on the F-5?
Is it available to download anywhere?
Grim Reapers I can't play this, so I don't know. Sorry
Can we get harrier basics next?
Next will most likely be Hornet as it is about to be released.
Even better cap! :D

The flat tire simulator.
LOL yes

I cant even contact them with open canopy ffs.
F8
@@grimreapers This does not seem to work - my f8 was target view and nothing I do seems to give me the ability to talk to a ground crew :(
hi again
Hi Dave
Do you have a video like this for F-15?
I haven't, the F-15C is a "starter" plane in DCS so is very easy to use and simplified. I'll wait until the full simulation F-15E comes out.
@@grimreapers soon now ;)
