Paru-Parong Bukid is a traditional Filipino folk song which originated from "Mariposa Bella", a Filipino song in Spanish originated in the 1890s.
The song "Mariposa Bella" was composed during the time of American invasion of the Philippines. During American occupation of the Philippines in 1898, the Spanish speaking Filipinos commenced including the song itself.
In 1938, "Mariposa Bella" was totally forgotten when "Paru-Parong Bukid" was released as a soundtrack of a film of the same title. The Tagalog rendition was composed by Felipe De Leon.

The secret you did not know yet is the Philippines is the richest nation in the world according to Pres Bush. When the time comes that this is revealed to the whole world then these choirs all over the different countries have something to 'offer' to us at the grandest celebration. Just kidding!
Very nice rendition. One thing i want to korect is that pakendeng kendeng means, moving your hips from side to side.

Hindi naman po yung song itself yung pang world class pero yung composition. Maganda po kasi yung arrangement ng notes. Sobrang dami po nating magagaling na composer ang most of their compositions ay world class.

You can see the smiles in their faces and seem to enjoy singing the song. The applause was tremendous in the middle of their performance. Their pronunciation is perfect.

I'm just curious why they chose that piece of all songs? Proud filipino here.
Maybe because of the lyrics of the song, most of the words has repetition in it so it is easy to memorize
In a choir competition theres a song categories that they have to sing : Contemporary, classic , international song ( the one they sang here) . My analysis here why they chose this piece it’s because it has a history winning in the competitions in the past , it’s authenticity as a piece (novelty song ) specially for Westerners..This is not their usual / kind of song .

Gregoria Generosa they improvised all the pieces of the Philippine songs for the choirs before they could sing or perform to the public in my opinion. By improvising its piece made it more interesting to listen to different notes and variation like "Paru parong bukid". At first thought it's about a butterfly, but it's about a flirtatious maiden. The choir was having fun singing the song. The song is funny though. Kudos to all the Pilipino composers and song writers!
