@@johnnyfactor2799 Ben has another channel where he helps skateboarders learn basic tricks. Be a prick somewhere else. I’m sure it’s people like you he doesn’t want around.
You taught me how to drywall, and I just happened to stumble across this channel today! Blew me away! I haven't skated in years, but I'm ready to get back out there. Thanks for all the great content - I'm looking forward to your next videos!
Really fun video. Love these history lessons. Cheers. Rodney Mullen got those front crook on lock. Well Rodney vs Daewon 2. He does one on two picnic tables that gradually tweaks out to the point where he’s like sideways by the end
I quit doing fs crooks for over 12 years and settled for fs noseslide. Over a year ago I recovered fs crooks. Man I was missing out on one of the best feelings in skating. Definitely on the top five favorite tricks.
Hi Ben:) I want to say a great congeats for the amazinz montage, an ode to crooks. Music, vid quality, colors, team were so great!!! Thanks also for the crooks history. I think most of us at that time did not know it was a crooks, just a weird nose grind... As for your fav s fsheel flip, I think of Koston, maybe in menigmati. You were great with Markovich treflip👏
Thanks Ben for the surprisingly entertaining content. I also enjoy your drywall/carpentry channel - so much knowledge from so many fronts. Very inspiring as well, who knew all of these physics that come into play when we step on a board. Great father figure to follow as well. 👏👏👏
Loving the skate history lessons! Would love this to be a regular series, or share your favorite parts or underrated parts that skaters should check out.
Somewhere here on the youtube-iverse exists a video with me doing my only backside crook ever...on a box I made out of salvaged wood and locally sourced bent steel for the grind edge.
Guy Mariano in Blind video days, on the white double sided curb, ollie over to crooked grind on the other side of the curb. Also Henry Sanchez on the November 1990 Thrasher magazine cover. FYI.
in the late 80s wheels were huge , early 90s they got small because they thought the board would flip easier and easier for curb dancing tricks. the mid to late 90s they started getting bigger . my setup from 1998 has 54mm wheels , so i bet you that wade speyer crook was mid to late 90s.
@ben degros i really love every way you take so far with your channel !!! For me you always make some change at the right time, but i wish that you always have fun with what you do more that what we want to see( sound weird ) but im sure you will understand!!
I guess, JB Gillet in the New Deal promo (96) for the sw front hell. Crooked grind was born after someone miss noseslide ( the wheels past over the curb) but eventually control it and the crooked grind was born!
When I was a teenager I loved crooks! Then I had a freak accident doing one on the curb, broke my damn arm; my forearm was in a 45° angle. I was spooked to do them for a while after that.
Koston in mouse. You showed the spot I think in an old video I believe. Vancouver Ally flat bar line. had a switch 5oh shuv on the ledge. sw front shuv switch front heel and the nose Grind on the bar in the alley.
@@bendegros it's one of the first ones I noticed as a kid. I had only seen sw fs flip. My earliest favorite is Henry Sanchez over the pipe at 1st and army. Sight unseen
Really starting to get a hang of those FS Crooks eh. I have no idea who you watched to get inspired on switch FS heeflips, but P-rod and Tom Asta do them super proper.
Where abouts is this ledge in Vancouver??! I love your vids and recently moved to vancouver island from Australia and NEED to do a sk8 trip out there!!! Thanks for the vid!
A while ago you made a setup video where you setup a board with spacers. Did it make the bearing last longer or not. Because i popped a bearing on the first day and i was using them.
Dan Peterka Dan was doing crooked grinds before Eric Koston. Koston started doing them after skating with Dan in San Diego. They both skated for H-STREET at the time.
I learned frontside crooks first. I never had the best skills, but for some reason I was often more comfortable with the versions of tricks that other people weren't as comfortable with. I learned frontside boardslides way before I learned backside; I had slipped out trying a backside boardslide early on and that scared me, so just stuck to frontside for a long time. Same with noseslides, although I wasn't so afraid of backside as I just could never properly pop into backside like I could with frontside. I would just do the few tricks I could do as fast as I could and with as much power as I could, which made people think I was really good because I was doing what they thought of as hard tricks, but I couldn't really do a lot of basic stuff. Also learned heelflips way before kickflips.
I know thats not the one, but Bryan Herman. Kris Markovich is amazing. His adio part was one of my first skate videos I saw and it still blows my mind. Mean man!
i remember the first time i saw a crook in person. There was a flatbar inside the local skate shop and i saw someone pull a nice one on it and ive loved them ever since. Also, my favorite cook is artos around that huge c ledge in menikmati. Dobstaff? wild guess
Funny coincidence, I am strungling right now on bs krook, I can grind for km, but I can't exit and lend it properly.... I hope I will make it today. Nice video btw
Wonderful timing. Just started trying to learn crooked grinds yesterday.
If you can't crook Ben doesn't want you anywhere near his videos and you're a loser

just finally learned Switch Crooked grinds today!!
You are the reason I just keep skating, you make me look forward to being old. never stop skating :)

I just realized how much your sk8ing has progressed since under 10k subs days... BRAVO!
Mannnnn! I gotta learn how to crooks. Ben makes them look buttery smooth
Loved seeing EMB in those clips!
Clyde singleton does a really nice one over a picnic table in trilogy
crooked grinds will always be the ledge go to, easy going, never a bad time. Great video Ben
Nice dude! Loved the editing and angles on the montage! Well done. Love a good crook!
Can you review the BD skateboard truck???

That K montage was dope! About the switch fs heel fisrt to my mind comes Pat Chanita. Second hand smoke, 411, he is just the best sw fs heeler!
Been watching for awhile--this is your best looking footage I've seen. Beautiful!

You giving up the madness is inspiring, I was wondering what type of content youd transition to and im loving it.
Your editing has gotten better and better, and this video really shows it!! great job Ben!
Brandon bieble🙏🏽 that's the best switch front heeler so it gotta be him!
Guy Mariano in Blind video days, on the white double sided curb, ollie over to crooked grind on the other side of the curb. Also Henry Sanchez on the November 1990 Thrasher magazine cover. FYI.
One of my favorite tricks!
that compilation was something of a marvel to witness. This kind of crooked grind mastery should be illegal !!
Kris markovich in foundations art bars was one of the first parts I'd ever saw. Anyone remember bluetorch tv?
Hell yeah! art bars is one of my favorite videos of all time. i remember blue torch back in the day too. i rarely caught it when it was on tho
your crooked grinds are soo good, especially the ones with the pop out!
i think you should try to nollieflip out of them, in case you not alredy did.

Thanks for zooming in on the crooked grinds, well deserved.
Scott Kane had a sick switch front heel
How do you like the new van's "skate" old schools!?
they're called "Classics" but yeah, i'd like to know
@@CJRussell he’ll definitely be doing a review soon
Just got the half cabs and I’m skating the older “pro classics” and side by side the newer “skate classics” feel way better
K-grinds feel so satisfying!
Love the skate education! Keep it coming :)
I see you're skating the new Vans "Skate" models! I'm going to try a pair of Half Cabs myself.
Dude your videos are the best. I might try some ventures 🛹
Your half cab crook nollie backside was so sick
Yo where is that spot at 4:51 -5:44 . that spot is beautiful and perfect
Switch frontside heelflip must be Pat Chanita in Second Hand Smoke, with the Stevie Wonder song. 1994. So smooth. Love Pat.
YES!!!!!! You win!!!! Want some trucks?
@@bendegros no way, I won. Sweet. Yes, sir.
@@bendegros I would love some trucks! How do I send you my information? Thank you, Ben!

I can't do Crooked Grinds (yet), but I still love them. One of these days, I'll land one.
Ollie into crook position Grind and pop out easy there bitch
6:31. , oh dam, tht was Nice af
Scott Johnston had a Think ad doing a f/s crooked grind at Hubba, pretty sure that was around 1992/early 93.
Probably my favorite trick
I'm guessing Brian Herman for the sw front heels. Would love the Venture hollow 5.6 if I win! Love your vids Ben.
That Montage was sick
Koston in mouse. You showed the spot I think in an old video I believe. Vancouver Ally flat bar line.
had a switch 5oh shuv on the ledge.
sw front shuv
switch front heel
and the nose Grind on the bar in the alley.
That is a good one. Looks soooooo easy.

“ We can clearly see he’s getting some pinch 🤏 “
Thats what she said
Was it pat channita in second hand smoke?
Yes :)
But unfortunately you were the second guess. Only two people have gotten it so far!
Brennand Schoeffel does a slappy crooked grind in the credits of H Street's shackle me not, probably 87/88, has to be the first documented.
s/o to the Winnipeg guys holding it down!! sweet ledge clips
Pat Channita! Second Hand Smoke circa 1994 or in the Revolution 1997 or early 1994’s Evol skateboards Back in Black
your editting skills are getting better
Really starting to get a hang of those FS Crooks eh. I have no idea who you watched to get inspired on switch FS heeflips, but P-rod and Tom Asta do them super proper.
Barley grind (fs 180 switch smith), was done by Rick Ibaseta first in switch stance ( swithc fs 180 smith grind ) in the New Deal video 1281.
My fav trick I felt pro wen I learned them.
Where abouts is this ledge in Vancouver??! I love your vids and recently moved to vancouver island from Australia and NEED to do a sk8 trip out there!!!
Thanks for the vid!
how do you like the new new skate vans that have the new sole and insole?
I'm gonna guess Appleyard in Photosynthesis for inspiration. If I win I'd like to select the hollow Thunder 5.2 or any 8.0 trucks.
A while ago you made a setup video where you setup a board with spacers. Did it make the bearing last longer or not. Because i popped a bearing on the first day and i was using them.
Dan Peterka
Dan was doing crooked grinds before Eric Koston.
Koston started doing them after skating with Dan in San Diego.
They both skated for H-STREET at the time.
Erik Koston, Girl's Mouse video, lovely switch FS heels
Best skating channel on RUclips!!
my friend Darren was dead set on grinding out his hangers back in 90. only from tricks
Hubba hideout was legendary
Though it is you who re-imagined the crooked grind. Keep up the good work
Jamie Foy's front crook down the longest kink rail in the last deathwish video is bonkers. He's got a mean pinch.
Is it Chico Brenes’ for the SW frontside Heelflips?
The angles and editing in this video is nuts
im going to say Tiago Lemos, the indys standard 139s love your mids bro keep killing it YEWW
That might just be your best video yet!

Same. Frontside boardslides are not scary. I got scared with backside boardslides. As for K grinds, i'm comfortable with backsides lol
Crooktastic!

Gino in Snuff had a really good regular Fs 180 Heel

and nice switch back tail!!!
Love this video👍🏻
I Started skating in 93 when it was all about the combos
Ishod for the switch front heel?
Funny coincidence, I am strungling right now on bs krook, I can grind for km, but I can't exit and lend it properly.... I hope I will make it today. Nice video btw
Exiting is the hardest part. Im not very good at it, but try some stationary, or try some Chinese nollies before. That helps me.
For the sw fs heel i'd say Brian Herman forsure one of the best sw fs heels
Chris cole does a good switch frontside heel on the Carlsbad gap
Bryan Herman has the switch front heels
A little after your time, or maybe right in the window where you weren't skating. But Biebel had a nassty sw front heel
Pat Chanita for switch fs heels!! nobody does it better
dude yes!!!! fight fire with fire is such a good video, Markovich rules
back in 98 crooked grind was my favorite trick
i heard lance mountain invented it not long after inventing slappys on curbs , his crooks were slappy
That’s one sick pinch 😎
that spot at 4:23 is in anacostia, washington dc Lmao i live like 5 mins away from it driving
You should review the vans skate classics
