“The Teenage Love Triangle” (cardigan, august, & betty) each song portray each of the character’s perspective cardigan - Betty’s perspective, now an adult recalling her teenage years with the male protagonist (James) august - told from the perspective of the other girl James had an affair with. (their summer romance) betty - James’s perspective, the aftermath of august. Each songs are very detailed lyrically, here are some of the correlations: cardigan & betty cardigan: (Betty) A. high heels on cobblestones B. drunk under a streetlight C. when you are young they assume you know nothing/ cause i knew everything when i was young D. you’d be standin’ in my front porch light E. i felt like i was an old cardigan, under someone’s bed F. chase two girls, lose the one G. i knew you’d come back to me/ i knew you’d miss me once the thrill expired H. to kiss in the cars and downtown bars betty: (James) A. i was walking home on broken cobblestones B. stopped at the streetlight C. i’m only seventeen, i don’t know anything D. will you kiss me on the porch? B. betty i know where it all went wrong, your fav song was playing, from the side far of the gym C. when she pulled up, a figment of my worst imagination, she said “James, get in, let’s drive”
Not everyone loves this type of indie/folk/chamber pop music but it's getting a lot of love from fans and critics and selling like mad, I personally think its her best album yet. Sorry.
@@InTalksicated What makes Exile so damn good beside the dialogue between them and of course the melody, is the bridge. Taylor's was a master at bridge composition from the very start. (Check out Our Song from her debut album.) She had reached her zenith in Last Kiss from her Speak Now album. But the bridge in Exile tops them all in my opinion. Taylor must have known this too because she sings this bridge twice. She's never done that before.
She said most of these songs aren’t about her. They are stories of made up people but are about topics everyone can relate to and pass those stories down like folktales are passed down.
BORED with Peace?! Couldn’t be me! It has some of her absolute best lyrics and is about how she wonders if she’s enough for Joe considering that their life together will never be peaceful because she’s “Taylor Swift”, “I’d give you my sunshine, give you my best, but the rain is always gonna come if you’re standing with me” because she’s never going to just have a normal life, but hopes what she CAN give him and bring to the relationship will be enough to make him want to stay.
Mirrorball has always struck me as a song about how she has had to fold depending on the tides of her fan's demands in musical tastes, and how she struggles to find middle ground with pleasing us and keeping with her artistic integrity. And now you use codependency so accurately! Validation for her career has always been external, and she has always made it a point that her career choices align with the fans' clamor. This album defies all our expectations, and this is the beauty of it: she sticks up for her genius and brilliance in lyricism and musicality by being reserved, withheld, and restrained. The elements of this album take the trappings of alternative sounds, but she incorporates elements of her previous eras into this album. It reflects her growth, how far she has come. She has not had to explain herself with these choices, like in reputation, but she is also unapologetically happy writing songs about ambiguously fictional interests.
there's something about the exile bridge that gets everyone crying. when i tell you I've never cried over a movie, song etc,, I FUCKING BAWLED DURING EXILE
Epiphany is a work of utter genius... The way she equates what combat soldiers went through with what medical staff are going through is brilliant.. The line "Things you cant talk about" is like a body blow...
Èxile is such a great song. Nice arrangement, too. And the story is heart-touching , because both people seem to have good hearts. But something mysterious makes them living in exile.
By now you will have found out that My Tears Ricochet is about Scott Borchetta. What makes this Track 5 so emotional is that it contains different emotions presented simultaneously and with such intensity. Borchetta was her label from the time she was 15 and he'd become like a surrogate father to Taylor. So she'd developed a strong attachment to him. You can hear it in the way she speaks of him. Then there's the sense of betrayal she felt when he sold her catalogue to one of her tormentors; stolen lullabies. Mostly though there's a sense of restrained rage in the way she enunciates certain lines. Love, disappointment, sadness, rage; all presented in one song in a manner only Taylor can deliver.
I assume since you've read up since the reaction, it is thought "My tears rochochet" is about Scott Borchetta and "Mad Woman" is supposed to be about Scooter Braun. Joe and Taylor are still together. Epiphany is about her grandfather a army medic compared to second verse the front line drs and nurses during Covid. Also, most of these aren't about her, pulled inspiration from other places.
Taylor sings Seven mostly with a head voice that sounds like a child of seven singing. I see Seven as an Easter egg. Taylor has subtly and sweetly introduced us to the horror of child abuse and I suspect she'll be tackling that issue in the near future.
I think that in Mad Woman Taylor takes another shot at both Scooter Braun and Kanye West. She skewers them both again in The Lakes. Go Taylor. Gotta hold f**ks to account!
Taylor doesn't strike me as one who would have a clandestine affair. But she has a great imagination and she did say her imagination ran wild. And as much as people involved in affairs are judge negatively, Taylor manages to convey the kinds of raw powerful emotions involved in cheating while also making us feel bad for the lovers involved because everyone knows no good will come of the affair.
My tears ricochet is about her old record label and how they sold her masters to borchetta. Mad woman is about borchetta, Kanye and Kim kardashian. Invisible string and peace are about her and joe. This is what I’ve gathered so far.
Ignoring the meaning of Epiphany (see it from a nurse's perspective) and Peace (Taylor's "private" life) is not a good idea. You should read and understand EVERY word and shade of melody. Nothing is coincidental.
My video was my initial reaction (as stated in the title). Of course I dove into meaning and learned to appreciate these songs after a couple listens but on first listen, I was bored. It was my honest reaction
@@InTalksicated Well. I understand. But no nurse dances after a 24 hour-shift "with only 20 minutes to sleep". Even on the initial impression, it should be clear that Taylor does not write any song to bore people. Some things are sad, after all.

wait why did you say sorry?
Best, person who critique album missed some key points, from Taylor her life, how she feels
It's probably her most consistent album although Red will always have a special place in my soul because of "All too Well"
Taylor really is an amazing story teller when it comes to her song writing!!
I cannot get enough of 'exile', So damn good.
It scores highest on the chills factor for sure. THOSE HARMONIES!

Exile Hint she is exile out side door listen close.

Mirrorball is about co-dependency, the relationship between her and her fans.
