One of the biggest mistakes Ruyi made after she got married was to not make friends with the Noble Consort and empress. Granted neither felt charitable towards her. Their jealousy would probably have made it impossible, but had she tried harder to get along things might not have been as bad.
Make friends? Those people tried to murder her! Empress also gave her a bracelet that affected her ability to get pregnant.
Hongli married Fusha as his empress. Ruyi was supposed to be the second wife and the Noble Consort was supposed to be a concubine. Later in the show the Noble Consort has equal then higher status. Ruyi's position definitely lessens from the time of the marriage to when Hongli becomes emperor. She never complains about it. Her failure to integrate with the empress and Noble Consort causes so much trouble for her and everyone around her.
The future Empress Dowager did warn Hongli that his personality would clash with Ruyi's. They are too much alike and each wants to be right. Had Hongli known what would happen, would he have fought so hard to get her?
It was better for her if he had let her go
