yes, and no. he is squatting a bar that is in front of him but he is taking the hardest part of a front squat out of it by using the straps like that. Now he can push it back with his arms which makes it waaaaaayyyy easier than holding it in a true rack position.
not really, still need to squat the weight with your legs, the straps just help to keep the bar on the shoulders/chest while doing it .... whether you have the upper back to support it is irrelevant , it's the work on the quads that matters. if anything the straps help keep a correct form posture to put the stress more on your quads which is the point of the exercise. a similar argument is always made when using straps with deadlifts, the weight is irrelevant really... they're trying for explosiveness and also trying to work the muscle consistently, if you don't do it efficiently due your forearms giving out in strength before your back does - which makes the deadlift irrelevant. it doesn't mean you don't have the strength to deadlift it with the correct muscular structures - your forearms a much smaller muscle than your back is so using straps to directly work the posterior chain and back is not a bad thing and doesn't take away from the exercise.

I mean some schools only work front squat like mine. Like we have a lot of high schools who can front like 315 but can’t do 425 back squat
