I got my leapV2 from Crandall as well. It compares extremely well to the original leapV2 from steelcase that I use daily at work. I'm a lightweight so I never had an issue with bottoming out on the original. Although, I did run into an issue with the thicker --back-- option. The thicker foam creates a bigger 'bridge' of fabric around the back contour and it constantly felt like it was pushing me forward. My torso doesn't have enough weight to push back against the 'bridge' that was formed. Huge props to their support since they overnight shipped me a replacement back which matches the feel from the original.

After watching BTODtv's video "Best Office Chair Tier List (30 Ranked For Comfort)", they had ONE chair that was ranked S and that was the "Lamia" chair. The Steelcase Leap chair frame + Amia seat pad. With this upgrade, this looks like the unofficial release of the Lamia chair lol.

Unfortunately, just adding more padding to the Leap seat shell won't get you the seat pad feel of the "Lamia". Additional thickness isn't what eliminates my sore tailbone, it is actually the design and shape of the shell beneath the pad, which gives each seat their unique contour. The Amia has a more flat shell design, while the Leap is much more contoured. It is this flat design in the Amia pad that makes it feel more forgiving for my tailbone, eliminating the discomfort by dispersing my weight in the seat better -GK

Just got my remanufactured Leap v2 from Crandall - opted for thicker backrest cushion. I had some logistics issues at first, but Crandall's customer service, along with David Crandall's personal attention to my questions, made this a stellar experience. The chair is fantastic. Just got mine today. Amazing chair, so comfy! I had been using a HM Aeron for the last decade and the Leap V2 is far more comfortable for long sessions.
Got the HM used as well -- for about $100 less than the Steelcase - it's held up well, though the cylinder is shot - wobbly -- $60 replacement will make it as good as new.
The seat is just too hard for my liking, especially the rim that cuts off circulation in your legs.
The Leap just gives all around better support for back, more adjustments and better recline stiffness. All around better chair in everything but looks. (It's hard to beat the classic Aeron with headrest in the aesthetics department)

  • @Krackerjax

I just got one of these last week. The thick seat? YES. Its so much better, highly recommend. The thick back? NO. I am going to exchange it for the default thinner one. Its way too thick. It pushes you forward in an awkward way that it makes it hard to have good posture, I couldnt keep my back straight and kept crumpling forward. But the main problem is that you cant feel the lumbar support very well, as it has to go through all of that padding before it gets to your back. If you need lumbar support like I do, do not get the thick back. Even fully maxed out, the lumbar does not go deep enough with the thick pad on.

for me the backrest is too much curved in the top part. Even if you put pressure on the lumbar area and make the backrest move into you, it never really hugs me and supports my shoulders. The whole backrest has too much of a recline angle. you can't really sit up straight like on the embody. I don't know but my back hurst on the leap v2 (completely new one, wish I could try it with the thicker and softer cushion).

Good question - so I've heard a number of people who really hate the way the backrest was designed on the Leap. It basically "flips" backwards before it tilts backwards. I have used Ikea Hattefjäll with my own pillow on the bottom for three years. Actually I have removed native cushion from the bottom entirely, and left with only my pillow on top of hard base. And that configuration turned out to be very comfortable for my 1,8 meters and 73 kilograms. Half a year ago I have purchased used Leap V2. After tuning it became slightly more comfortable, than Hattefjäll, except handrests. Handrests were hard to fit under my compact desk, and they constantly horizontaly shifted back and forth. So anoying. In the end I have removed them and now I can agree, that Leap V2 is the best chair that I have used to date.

I bought this chair in 2020 from crandell and as soon as I got it, it gave me bad sciatica pain for days cause of how thin the seat pad was, so they offered to give a thicker 1 and honestly it didn't help much so I got a seat cushion, then last year they introduced there virgin foam seat cushion, so I paid 50 dollars to get that and even though it was thicker it still wasn't comfortable to me without a seat cushion, and on top of that the back rest has always gave me issues, used to be the upper back and now it hurts my hips and lower back, but I'm willing to try these upgraded cushions if they really are that much better, I'm just not sure if the seat is the same one I already have or if it's new, casue it kinda looks thicker then mine in this video, I'd like to know if it is different from the one I bought in 2021, I really want to love this chair cause so many people say it's great and btodtv said it's there favorite office chair so I bought it hoping it would help my nerve issues but unfortunately it hasn't been a great chair for me, I've thought about trying the HM aeron or the secret lab titan Evo 2022 but I can't hardly make myself spend another 500+ dollars on another chair and not know if it will help or not

I'm around 110kg, and after about 4 months of use the padding of the chair is mostly...not gone but it's nowhere near as comfy as before, with my butt constantly feeling a bit of pain. It's definitely a firm seat in the first place, but still, needs more support or thicker foam to be honest. At least you can take the seat apart and get it reupolstered, but that's just an extra cost on top of an absurdly expensive chair. Get one second hand for half the price and re-do the foam if need be.

@@nickskep it’s angled like that in a normal leap v2. I use a leap v2 that I bought new, seat cushion is perfect. I honestly would not want a thicker one. I find chairs with thick seat cushions uncomfortable.

@@nickskep Couple things to make sure - the seat pan edge has "2 fingers" clearance from your knee pits and make sure your knees are at or below 90 degrees with feet flat on floor (footrest can help w/ this). Again, with my knee being the way it is, I am SUPER sensitive to added pressure bc it's like lightly touching a bruise - super duper sensitive! So on my Aeron, I was like OMG this is the WORST - felt so much pressure. But on the thicker pad, felt nothing at all! It's so soft - maybe that's why?

I do think the added cushion thickness from Crandall is better overall, as the original LEAP V2 can bottom out cause of thin cushion. I just wish it would angle down more in the front. The back part of the thicker cushion is great.

    Hey Ahnestly,
How do you rank this extra cushy Crandall version of the leap versus some of your other favorites like the Amia, Embody, Aeron, ect? I'm thinking of buying one because I liked the leap v1 highback I used to have. Currently sitting on a Gesture with Brisa fabric which is soft and comfortable but I find the lumbar and upper back support to be lacking. Thanks.

Hey! So in general, I’m not a fan of the leap v2 bc the back hurts my back for some reason (I think it’s the tilt - I like keeping my back unlocked with tension high, but the leap tilts differently than almost every chair out there)! I prefer the thicker cushion leap over the original, but in terms of my favorite, it’s still the embody. After that would be a Haworth fern. I think the Amia is super good for the price!
