If you try putting the portal blocks together one will absorb the other when they merge, however if you put them in lava source blocks next to each other they will not. This is handy for making a frameless nether portal

So what I did was downgrade my world to 1.17. Downgrading wasn't easy as old version doesn't let you play a newer version world. So you have to use a tool called Blocktopograph(Android) to edit the world details and then you can run the world in 1.17. I went I made the farm. got 20 portal blocks (bcz my flint and steel broke). Then I updated back to 1.20 and yeah I got the portals. Consequences: The in game UI changes a little bit, like in older versions you'll have same chest slot UI even if you come back to 1.20. After coming back I flew a little bit and went to areas of my world that I never visited before. And the new biomes that loads are appearing like farlands in MC java. No matter how far I flew it doesn't get better, the game as if broken and can't load biomes properly so it just deletes chunks of blocks and you get weirdly half cut mountains and structures. So yeah you'll get it but that's the cost. I didn't wanted my world to appear like this and hated the UI so I loaded the backup I had created before doing all this and got my normal world back.

Is this working on realms for 1.17.34? I just built it and everything seems to work fine except for the fact that the snow block is getting mined and no portal blocks. Everything is built to specification
Update: the more lag in the server, the harder and less consistent it is from my testing. If you still have a problem doing it on realms try these. 1. Build it far away from any big/mob farms. 2. Try turning it on and then instantly try mining, if it doesn't work, turn it off and try again.
When i do it it doesn't work and I'm in 1.20 so can you do a 1.20 version of it or it's been removed because I did every thing right and I didn't get the item
This still works in 1.17.40 on my Xbox (not on realms). Just did it today and got portal blocks until the flint and steel ran out. I had to turn it off and back on again a few times to get it to work
I found a really cheap X-ray glitch place a cobble stone block place another block on top then place a block to the side of the higher block then on the side block place 2 blocks under that some would sand and enpearl a tiny bit above the center of the soul sand throw a end pearl and move to the edg of the block like with the shulker
Why isn't this working in my realm? I've tried to set the repeaters to 2 ticks, I'm using it with a silk touch efficiency 5 diamond shovel, I've rechecked multiple times, and I have definitely built it correctly. It's on a chunk border and everything

I'm not sure if this is because I did this glitch, but this glitch was the only thing I did in my single player survival world. Problem is that portals put out light, so that might affect spawning.
These portal blocks are so cool, feels OP having a ton of them. I now have a full Shulker of portal blocks

I have never understood enchanting flint and steels... its just a rock and a piece of iron - gravel is common and iron can be farmed

Does this mean you can actually make a custom portal? So no doubling up on blocks to make it took different?
You can put two portals next to each other by placing a top snow but you cannot place it above
For some reason the smaller the portal the better these farms work
Because bigger portals would lag and take longer to light up, so it's better to build them smaller for timing.

Nothing worked when I mined with my iron silk touch shovel I ended up braking the piston and holder blocks (I had light blue wool)
my portal was the same but yours was 2 blocks off and it worked??????????????????? mine didn't work
